24 Hours in Salzburg, Austria with American Parents | Austria's Steepest Cog Railway + Ferry in Alps

  • AMERICAN PARENTS ARE IN EUROPE!! After picking them up at the Nuremberg Airport, we headed down from Germany to Austria. We stayed the night in Salzburg and woke up early to experience Austria's STEEPEST COG RAILWAY. The Schafbergbahn has been running from St. Wolfgang since 1893. The train takes 35 minutes to cover a total distance of 5.85 kilometers, rising 1190 vertical meters. We had a memorable experience, but were a bit bummed the clouds covered our view of the Austrian Alps at the top.
After tasting some strong cheese and getting some pea soup, we made our way down to take the ferry from St. Wolfgang to St. Gilgen. The lake was some of the clearest we've seen and Willa had a blast cuddling up with her grandma and papa. :) We ended our time in in Austria exploring Salzburg Aldstadt (the old town center).

A warm welcome to Tanner's parents in Europe. So nice that Willa has some time to spent with them. You really do a lot of traveling and I understand that you are homesick. No matter how
mind opening and awesome it is to see other countries and experience other cultures you always will miss family and friends. You are probably overwhelmed and somewhat also exhausted of all your adventures and impressions. Take care and enjoy the time with your parents. Love your video as always.

Nice to see that part's of your family are coming now to visit you. I'm glad you can explore all of new things together.
The cow's welcomed you to Austria and your family to Europe.
And who could not love trains, they're so cool. I totally understand Willa 😊👏👏👍
For food and beverages, Austria is definitely one of the best countries in Europe with quality and variety.
Being homesick is something pretty normal, i guess almost everyone has that feeling from to time when living abroad.

We were up on Schafberg this summer, and had the less than brilliant idea to walk on foot down from the top to the middle station. My legs and feet and many parts of my body hurt for a whole week after, because we had to hurry to catch the train down which we had booked. Next time no walking !

Great to see Willa being so close and comfortable with Tanner's parents. She is such a happy and smart little girl. They always say how beautiful the country of Austria is, but enjoyed seeing the beauty of Salzburg. The railway and Ferry ride looked very picturesque as well. Good to see that the fog doesn't stop you from enjoying your time together. It was interesting to see the statue of George Washington in the door entrance.

The interaction between Willa and her grandparents is awesome. She really seems to grasp the concept of time very good, so she decides to focus as much attention as she can towards them, because they are only with you for a limited amount of time, until they have to travel back. I realize this because my nephew does not have a real concept of time yet, when I showed him pictures of me when I was his age, he kept asking where he was, and why he was not in the pictures.

Too bad you only could visit Salzburg for a short time. Next time you are in Salzburg I recommend going to the castle Hohenwerfen. It is stunning and the bird of prey show is fantastic. I also love the huge ice cave at the Eisriesrnwelt and the salt mines, which are so much fun (they have mine trains and slides) and are interesting (historically) at the same time. I also love castle Hellbrunn with their trick fountains. It’s so much fun when people get tricked and get soaking wet 😄
I go to Salzburg and all of these sights every couple of years with my pupils and it’s my most favourite school excursion because it’s so much fun.

Netflix just announced a new program about Elizabeth the Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary. She was born into the Wittelsbach royal family of Bavaria. First of all, Wellcome to Tanners parents to Germany, to Europe. Have a nice and peasant time over here and enjoy being guided by a longtime travellers couple with their everybodies darling, your grandchild Willa. Enjoy your time even she need a rest from tome to time taking a nap(that always look so cute). Did you see her face lighten up when she realized taken a choo-choo train soon. Amazing showing her joy to do it soon. Risa, I fully understand to become homesick from time to time and once time will come you need to go back but I also know, after a while your body will shaken and force you to explore to discover others and looking for new challenges all of what our life can offer. Dont worry about. Take your time to be a coachpotatoe and also enjoy new discoveries. Even it will be a tough timr for Tanner taking the gang around, I am sure he also enjoy it very much.

The changing cloud stituations on mountain tops got something magical...
Beeing afraid of heights, I throw myself to the ground if they get blown away too sudden (but i like that little kick)
