      Quack quack quack. You don’t know sh💩t about flux core, but you can’t stop brain farting. My technique is super easy, and unlike MiG, where a pretty bead can be pitiful penetration, my much flatter flux weld is never lacking in penetration. Cleanup? I got a lot of dust and a little grinding. You got a little warping, and a lot of grinding. Get yer azz over to my channel and learn how to weld sheet metal right🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Flux core works, but i prefer MIG. The only reason i say this is because flux core creates a lot of spatter on your piece which then means more grinding and sanding, and searching for each little spatter later. MIG at the appropriate heat setting leaves very little if any spatter at all. Looks good though, great work!

      Flux core is great for thicker steel and where you dont mind cleaning up more after. For car panels, gas and 0.6mm (0.025")solid wire is the go. Flux core welds hotter and blows holes in panels too easy. Don't bother with throwaway bottles though because its terrible economy. I've welded large sections in cars replacing crash damage with flux core and others with gas- now I have gas I'll never flux core car panels again. The amount of work difference is huge. Preperayion is everything so cut your replacement piece to fit perfectly, then you make minimal warpage by not having to weld gaps. I, like Billy taught myself how to weld. I however know better than to not listen to tips from actual expert welding videos.

      I don’t try to explain it to the guys who think that all the answers are in the Welding book written 50 years ago. I regulate the intensity of the arc with the stick out. If you watch my video where I’m welding 26 gauge steel, which is the thinnest sheet metal that I know of, my stick out is around 2 inches. If you watch the video closely, you often see the arc start and the stick out turn red. That redness is the wire reducing the violent arc and allowing me to weld that super thin metal. “Real” weldors can quack all they want about this or that, but I include destructive testing to PROVE my point😉😉

I have a lincoln 180C which uses flux core on everything BUT car panel thickness sheetmetal. Bondo Billy never learned how to use a mig properly- notice he has at least an inch of wire sticking out past the tip. He'd save so much time using gas with the clean up afterwards alone. You fill gaps with weld- you warp the panel more, leaving more panel eork to correct. He's been welding sheetmetal badly for 42 years.

    I'm with you. I haven't been welding that long but had great luck with Flux core, and as long as the finished results look good and are strong who cares how it was done. Especially sheet metal.

    Im a hobbyist who welds a few times a year. I have the Chicago electric 220v flux core welder. I swapped out the wire with a name brand and I have been extremely happy. It’s welded everything I’ve thrown at it over the past 5 years

    • @OldBondoBilly

      Your belief is founded in reality. You can’t get better penetration than blowing a big hole, lol. The trick is to regulate that penetration through settings and techniques 😉😉

  • @Shadowband72
    @Shadowband72 Před 6 měsíci

    I learned it to weld with Oxy acetylene back in the early 80s . The only other welding I've done was trailside welding when out 4 by 4ing . My Jeep had a 260 amp alternator and dual batteries . All I needed to weld was a set of jumper cables and a piece of welding rod . Welding driveshafts back together using patches cut out of pickup boxes . Sleeving broken tie rod arms . Reattaching shackle mounts and such . Most vehicles don't come with even a 150 amp alternator . But if you have an older vehicle that did have one of those 260 amp alternators . Most anything I could weld with just the amps from the alternator and a single battery . And if I wanted to I could turn my dual battery system into a 24 volt battery . And 260 amps times 24 volts is 6,240 watts of metal melting electricity .

    Is there a lot of porosity and flux inclusions when you do all those spot welds like that? I don't imagine it matters that much if you're going to Bondo and or Bondo glaze over the area anyways.

    • @OldBondoBilly
      @OldBondoBilly  Před měsícem

      There’s an occasional pinhole, and I turn up the amps to burn in a quick, flat weld for easy grinding. With such a flat weld there will be like little divots that aren’t holes, and they don’t affect strength. On flux core welding, just as the name sounds; the flux boils through the puddle as your welding so flux inclusion is a non-thing.

    I have welded lots of 10 gauge irrigation pipe with flux core, no leakage issues.
    It does make a huge difference what brand you are using, I prefer Lincoln, it produces a lot cleaner weld with minimal spatter.
    Keep up the good work.

    • @OldBondoBilly
      @OldBondoBilly  Před 21 dnem +1

      You should have the heat past halfway on that welder. when I say blip the trigger I mean, pull it and let go of it in about the same space at that heat range. The arc and the fusion of sheet metal will be instantaneous. That’s why you have to let go quick

    New welder here, are you tacking to stop too much heat getting into the metal and ruining the shape? Just got done welding up a workbench as my first project with a cheap little gasless mig, and i spent half the time battling the heat pulling everything out of plum. Any and all advice welcomed, please and thanks 🙏

    • @OldBondoBilly
      @OldBondoBilly  Před 8 měsíci

      Yes; warpage and shrinkage must be considered ahead of time. This is why I prefer to start welding in the closest gap. Square and plumb should be checked repeatedly on some projects 😉😉
