I had 14 mercury amalgam fillings installed in my teeth between the ages of 10 and 14. I had an immediate violent reaction and thought I was going to die. It destroyed my school years and l went from being a high flyer to the class dunce failing all my exams. Today as an old man I've had a rough time finding work. I suffered about 20 illnesses some life-threatening. I still suffer today although l got rid of the toxic fillings 20 years ago. My hands have little feeling in them causing me to constantly drop things. My life has been ruined by mercury poisoning but the dental profession refuses to admit any responsibility.

Again, you got elemental mercury confused with dimethyl mercury or other organic compounds. Mercury itself isn't poisonous, however it is very hard for your body to get rid of it once it's in, which can cause problems down the line. However, you would need to be exposed to mercury vapor on a regular basis to get any negative effects. Organic mercury compounds on the other hand are a different story, and you seem to be talking about both at the same time. You said a few drops could kill you if you touch it, but that's not true, because I have worked with mercury before and touched it, and I'm fine. In short, you have confused elemental mercury for organic mercury
Edit: I would like to correct myself, mercury IS poisonus, but in its liquid phase its relatively harmless, unless it gets into an open wound or you literally take a bath in it. Mercury does, however, fume a lot, which can be seen using a black light. These fumes are dangerous if inhaled repeatedly over the course of your life. But playing with it occasionally while following safety guidelines is pretty much fine. This video is still bs though

My late Mother was born before WWII. She told me as a a child, she used to “play” with liquid mercury as if it was a toy. Kids at that time would roll the mercury spheres around in their hands!!! No one was educated at the time how toxic it is. No serious health problems happened to her though. Once I accidentally broke open one of those old fashion thermometers! I was trying to put it back in its own case which was a stupid design. You had to push the thermometer into a clip built into the plastic case. It was not a simple task. The thermometer snapped in two and all the mercury spilled out onto my dresser! When I saw those shiny silvery beads form I screamed for my husband who knew how to clean it up. He worked in a Safety Kleen laboratory at the time so he’s dealt with many chemicals like acids and mercury. He put on a face mask 😷 and 🧤. I don’t know how he disposed of it but I didn’t care other than I was so relieved 😌. I was so glad he was home that time!

The liquid phase of mercury is not dangerous or poisonous if your skin get into touch with it. The surface tension of mercury in his liquid phase is really high. It does not moisten your skin. It is a total strange feeling sticking a finger in a beaker filled with mercury under room conditions. It feels like the liquid try’s to push out your finger quite strong. If you stick your finger into water, it feel quite neutral, even if there is buoyancy.
But stick your finger into a beaker filled with mercury, you feel a absolutely weird buoyancy force upwards.
How do I know? I did it several times in school age.
You have to know what to do. What is really dangerous, is mercury vapor! And if you have mercury, you have mercury vapor as well. Inhaling this, is highly poisonous. I knew it when I did these experiments and was respectively taken care.
Again, the message right in the beginning of the video is wrong. Pure liquid mercury is not that poisonous.

That would've been an extremely tiny amount of mercury. It likely wouldn't have done anything to you, provided you didn't inhale any vapors.
Mercury is very volatile, and a good conductor of electricity, which is the main reason why it was used in high-voltage/high-current vacuum tube rectifiers.
Of course, these days liquid thermometers are made with alcohol instead of mercury, similar to the alcohol used in bubble lights. I don't remember what the alcohol is called, but it is sensitive to temperature changes and can be easily calibrated.
