here's a little story:
you're at school, as usual. the sounds of footsteps and chatter within the corridors grow less strident. the faint laughter of other students can be heard from afar. you're still resting your head against the surface of your desk. looking out out the window, you notice the clouds getting heavy and the grey shade becoming darker. it's going to rain. as you turn your head, thoughts of that boy flooded your head. the boy with the noticeable cat-like eyes. the sound of raindrops pattering against the windowpane grasped your attention once more. a slight smile stretched across your face. you'll be able to see him again..
you think back to when you first met him.
*flashback*
as you make your way out of school, you feel the rain against your back. you brought an umbrella but it was something you felt wasn't necessary. the rain had drenched your uniform and the rest of your body. the people you'd always appreciated as friends had been ignoring you and instead, they've been insulting you. it didn't really matter anymore until it got to the point where you couldn't take it. as you stare at the concrete, you find yourself wondering why you put up with this.
"fuck.."
you jumped in surprise and turned your head in the direction of the voice. there he was, a boy around my age, in a crouching position, on the sidewalk. he was holding a game console and kept muttering under his breath. his hair fell around his face, it was yellowish with dark roots. it reminded you of a pudding, like those cups that you'd buy at the convenience store. after staring for a while, you notice how attractive he is. you couldn't help but admire him. his head stirred from his game towards you and you flinch at the sudden movement.
"oh was i staring for too long? i-i apologize." you stuttered while bowing down
"it's fine.." he said in a quiet voice and looks at his console
"what are you doing sitting down in the rain? isn't it cold?" you asked while lifting up your head
"um.. i could be asking you the same thing." he repeated while glancing around
"r-right." you nervously said
your feet wouldn't keep walking, so you stood there in the middle of the road. it was as quiet as ever and the even stillness of the rain could be heard. you place your bag on the sidewalk and search through it. you find what you're looking for and pull it out, uncovering an umbrella. he tilts his head to the side and looks at you with a questioning look.
"here! you can use my umbrella." you replied as you held it out in front of you
"if you had an umbrella... why didn't you use it?" he asked
"i.. well... it's not exactly mine, it belongs to one of my friends.." you responded and looked the other way
"well then you should use it for yourself.." he said and pushed my hand away
"in that case..."
you grabbed the umbrella from the ground and carefully position yourself next to him. once you unstrap it, the umbrella bobbed above your heads and you feel the light rain pattering against the canopy. he reaches for the rod that you're holding and feel his hand brush against yours. you felt the blood rushing to your face and quickly withdrew your hand.
"t-thank you but i wanted to hold it." you explained
"uh i can hold it, it's fine." he objected and went back to his game
"but then you won't be able to play your game! i'll hold it." you argued while taking ahold of the pole and lifting his hand off. you place it on his lap and turn your head in the other direction. you did this in hope that he wouldn't see your red-tinted cheeks.
"oh.. okay."
he turns his attention on the game console and there's an awkward silence between the two of you. you sigh and face your direction on the sidewalk, overlooking the school in the distance and the road up ahead. it had been stained with tiny drops of water that continued to spatter. you noticed an ant on the tip of a leaf. it wiggled its way down and tried to avoid any droplets. the ant climbed onto your finger and you held it up toward your face. as you held the umbrella, you could overhear his faint breathing and the cursing underneath his breath. the screen flashed a bright red and displayed the words "game over." he groaned in frustration and lifted his head back, rubbing his eyes.
"look it's an ant!" you beamed while tapping his shoulder
he shifts his gaze from the ant to you for a while and forms a slight grin. you couldn't keep your eyes off of his look and felt the heat rising to your face once again. he was fidgeting with a strand of his hair and you noticed the slight blush covering his face. you turn your head and return the ant to its original place, on the water-covered leaf. there was another awkward stillness and you couldn't help but feel as if you've been too stiff or made him uncomfortable in a way.
"looks like it stopped raining.." he mentions as he carefully relocated the umbrella and placed it beneath their feet.
he stood up from his sitting position and set his finger on the button, pulling both ends of the cover in a closed position. the closed umbrella was laid on the side of the pavement and he held his hand out. you placed your hand on his and felt the wind sweeping against your face as he pulled you up.
"your clothes must be wet. you'll catch a cold!" you remarked
"it's fine.." he reassured
"are you sure?" you questioned
"yeah.." he muttered and shoved his game into his pocket
he inclined his body the other way and ran his fingers across his jacket. the jacket was a light red with white-colored letters that spelled out the word "Nekoma." inside of that jacket, a grey hood can be seen on the neckband.
"then i'll be going now.." he said and waved goodbye
"oh alright bye.. wait i never asked for your na-"
before you could proceed to talk to him, he was gone from your sight.
it was as if he had vanished into thin air.
ever since that day, you've normally found yourself going to the place where you first saw him. he never appeared again. there was so much you didn't know about him and you questioned whether or not you'll see him again. though it's been a couple weeks, you still had a bit of hope and patiently waited for the next rainy day..
*end of flashback*
as you made your way out the classroom, the door slid open as hard as it could. you ran through the corridor, now slightly empty, and ignored the lectures from other teachers. the sound of your feet couldn't and wouldn't stop running for anything, you needed to see him. this was your only chance to talk to him again. the feeling of enthusiasm swelled in your chest as you propelled through the entrance gates. you felt the sound of your beating chest, getting stronger as you reached the destination.
he was nowhere to be seen. not the sidewalk, nor the road, or near the patch of grass inside the pavement with the ant's leaf attached. the rain poured onto your body and covered the tears swelling in your eyes. you glanced at the grey-tinted sky as your vision blurred. the water streamed down the side of your face.
"where are you?" you whispered to yourself as your lip quivered
as soon as i began walking away, i felt the presence of someone else standing. there was only one person with that familiar scent. i froze in my tracks, hoping it was that boy and he'd recognize me. you heard footsteps.
the sudden noise surprised you, causing you to jump at the sound of splashing. you swung around and stared at his face. the lamp post flickered slightly and the light directed onto your face, reaching my eyes that could no longer shine. he must've noticed you were smiling because his facial expression quickly changed.
"there you are!" you said while slightly laughing
he stood there, unamused.
"what's wrong?"
he raised his hand and reached for yours as you stared in confusion. your fingers slipped through his hand as if he was a ghost. not wanting to believe it, you lifted your hand off of his and pulled it against his chest. the motion of your hand fell right through it, there was no chest to be seen.
"so you're telling me none of this is real.?" you asked as the lump in your throat grew tight.
he stared at you and before he could continue talking, you could feel yourself breaking down the sudden weight on your shoulders was too much to handle and you collapsed on the concrete. on the ground, you fell on a puddle and placed your hands above your water-filled eyes.
"i'm sorry, goodbye."
you quickly lifted your head up and looked around. you were in the middle of the sidewalk, and not a boy insight. you felt like crying but the tears wouldn't come out, you tried screaming but your throat was parched. you faced your direction upwards and saw the sun, shining as brightly as it could, along with the painfully blue sky. that sky that was almost cloudless but graciously clear.
it was no longer raining.

And so it would.
Kenma bit his bottom lip and shook his head. “No, no Kuro, please don’t.” He didn’t try to fight the hot tears pricking his eyes that time, letting them spill out onto his cheeks.
A soft whine left Kuroo’s throat. “I can’t do this anymore.” Each syllable was a slurred stutter, each a stab to Kenma’s heart.
Was it selfish to ask him to keep fighting?
“Kuro…” Kenma didn’t know what else to say, instead squeezing Kuroo’s hand again. Kenma tried to blink away the tears welling up in his eyes, not wanting his vision of Kuroo to be obscured; not at a time like this. He stayed on his knees, a silent prayer that this would turn out okay.
“I’m sorry, kitten.”
“Kuro, if- if you don’t say it, it means we still have a chance, right?” Kenma‘s words were nonsensical babble, clutching Kuroo’s hand in his own like a lifeline. “It can’t be the end.”
“Please?”
Kenma would have been damned if he turned that down. He sucked in a deep breath, eyes turned down to look at the floor.
Was he ready to lose the one thing he couldn’t replace?
Was he ready to lose his entire universe?
There was no way he was.
“I love you.”
Kenma couldn’t hold himself back after that. He’d waited so many years praying he’d never have to hear it that he had no idea how much he needed to. A guttural sob left his throat, followed by another, and another. His whole chest ached with a pain that made him feel as though his heart was being ripped in two.
Through his tears, he couldn’t see the way his soulmark glowed a soft gold, signifying that it was indeed time to say goodbye.
All he could think of was the fact that his Kuroo, his star in the darkness, was fading away.
“Tetsurou, please,” Kenma begged through broken sobs, swallowing any pride he had and letting it dissolve into a fresh wave of tears. “I can’t do this without you.”
He lightly squeezed Kenma’s hand. Kenma looked up at Kuroo, and it was only Kenma could notice the light leaving Kuroo’s eyes despite the trickle of tears trailing down his face; the life leaving Kuroo’s features with each passing breath.
“Please don’t leave me.”
The words left Kenma’s lips before he could process the true weight behind them.
But when he did, his entire universe shattered into unfixable pieces.
His sobbing turned into wailing, each cry wracking his body so violently that it could have broken him; he wished it did. “Say something, Tetsurou, please?”
Kuroo didn’t hear that final plea.
He didn’t know how long he stayed like that, crying on his knees and clutching Kuroo’s cold hand to his chest. He didn’t know when the nurses came in, whether it was Kuroo’s heart monitor that alerted them to what had happened, or if it was the volume of Kenma’s sobs. He was far too lost in his own grief to process any of it.

pov: kenma now realized how distance kuroo has been lately after one of their fights. it was a pretty bad one. as a week goes by kuroo doesnt even address kenma in school. only volleyball practice when needed. kenma missed kuroo so bad it hurts. hes been crying over and over to the point he feels completely numb. later he texts Hinata telling him about all his problems with kuroo and how much he wants him back in his comfort. in his arms. he tells him how much he loves him and how bad it hurts watching kuroo from a distance. he strongly regrets ignoring kuroo before and yelling at him when he made him lose his game. Hinata suggests apologizes and telling kuroo about how kenma has been feeling. a couple days of planning hes finally standing outside kuroos window. hes beyond nervous. kenma finally finds the courage to knock. "kuroo please just listen to me untill im done then you can continue to ignore me again.." he says backing away from the window looking at the ground. he notices kuroo opening his window and sadly smiles at him. "let me just start of by saying how sorry i am.." he presses play to start the music, starting to sing each word with every peace of him. mid song kenma gets teary eyed but still continued staying strong. he looks into kuroo eyes the whole song looking for some kind of emotion. kuroo on the other hand was trying his hardest not to start crying. kenma finishes the song softly crying "kuroo im sorry.. im so sorry.. im such a horrible boyfriend. i never give you the love and attention you deserve. i regret putting my games before you. i regret not kissing you everyday in the morning, in the afternoons and before bed. words cant even discribe how much i miss you.. seeing you.. waiting for you to come up behind me and hugging be like theres no tomorrow.. please i know this sounds selfish but i need you kuroo Tetsuro. i need you more then i need oxygen to breath. i love you more then anything. im nothing without you by my side so please im begging you.." his voice getting shaky and quite "come back to me.. talk to me again.. i love you i want to start over" . it was completely silent for a solid 5 minutes until kuroo shuts his window. kenma, starting at the ground heard the window and felt his world crash for a split second until hearing a voice coming closer to him. "i love you so much kitten. i hate seeing you like this.. i missed you too" kenma quickly hugging kuroo back holding on like his life depended on it becuase well.. kuroo was his whole world. he cant lose him. not now. not ever. ❤️
