Hi Alone, I'm worried that you might be affected by the wildfires this year. I read that there have been a large number of fires in interior Alaska, caused by lightening. Praying that you and Kenai are safe!
Hi Ann! Thank you for your concern. Luckily the wildfires were about 100 miles or so away from my cabin. I spent the month of August doing some unexpected travel with my friends and family that were visiting from the lower 48 states. Now that they have returned home, I will be posting weekly vlogs again and other content as time allows. Thank you for your concern. I really appreciate it. 🤗

Anyone who doesnt agree with having firearms for protective reasons. They won't last very long when civil unrest happens. Someone breaks into their homes. Hi Tiff! I do hear this from time to time, about the notifications not coming through. I am uncertain why this is, but I do appreciate that you have enabled the notifications. 😊 It has been two years since I first arrived in Alaska, and I agree, time has gone by so fast and at other times it seems like the clock is at a standstill. I have so much that I want/need to accomplish here, that I am anxious for it to all get done so that I can just live my life without living in a constant state of construction. Someday I will get there. 🤗💛

I live in a mobile home far NW Washington State on a quiet street and love being away from crowds, traffic, and all the nonsense of city life. In my mid 60's and it's the little things that bring me joy. Love watching your channel.

I agree I moved to a very rural mountain area I have 3 neighbors, but they're about 3-4 miles away and also I'm not going into a nursing home as well.
My kids want me to move back and my answer is NO, at least until I'm dead then in being cremated and my ashes are to be spread on my old garden ( sold my farm to my youngest son).
As for the gun good for you to protect yourself.

What about a massive wheat crop for that open space? The equipment and fuel is expensive I know and perhaps it would be a great barter with local homesteaders?
The veggies that have bolted are cool weather crops. Maybe your temperatures have been too warm. I have the same problem here in Montana. My entire broccoli crop bolted before they even had good heads. Try planting in the spring or early fall, I was told. Better luck next year.

This is how you did your first Q&A with a list of questions & I loved that but then you changed it to "LIVE" which was awful ONLY because mostly all the subscribers were saying hi & having conversations & jokes & questions among themselves which I thought was quite rude as I felt it should be all about you as that's why most of us watch your channel & then many were advertising themselves on your channel. I did give you a positive idea of going back to your original format of your Q&A right after you changed it & went " LIVE " so Ty, Ty, Ty for this as I learned so much more about YOUR life there.... Not everyone else's. I loved the questions asked & your answers. I hope your future Q&A's will Always be like this. Absolutely perfect & settles our curiositys. The way it should be. I truly LOVED this!! I like your name as "Alone" & also "Annie" and if your name was the word "Unique" that would certainly fit you! By the way... I saw something cool on a loft.... the couple made a pully from the first floor to the upstairs loft with a laundry basket attached to get laundry, blankets, books or anything heavy up there as an easier & safer way. Very creative. Maybe you could make your own pond to let it get filled with snow every year so that it's melted by summer to use in your garden since you have to spend money always buying water & carting it home & using gas money to get it. A cyphoning hose could then be used from the pond to the garden & no lifting heavy buckets. You have great ideas & your making your place really nice! Your own Paradise! Garden of Eden. Once your balcony gets done you might wanna put a telescope on your wishlist for some star gazing & UFO's. Hahaha. I bet your son would enjoy that also on his visits. Do you think you'll try growing your own birch tree's on your property for firewood? You mentioned getting a weed whacker.... I bought a lightweight handheld chainsaw which I love that I use on weeds, branches & even to minimize cardboard boxes & then I burn those in my fire pit with some wood & then I throw those ashes in my garden. Personally, I much prefer the Q&A’s to a live stream - they have less potential to volatility and include less repetition. I also prefer the views of the cabin and grounds than the lengthy scenic shots. I view the videos to keep up with your life and lifestyle and progress with renovations of the cabin and land, not to take a tour of Alaska. Those I fast forward through.
Hi Becky! Thank you for the feedback. I completely understand both of these statements, regarding the livestreams and the scenic tours. I will be posting a pre-recorded Q&A once a month and do hope that you will enjoy those. And my weekly vlogs will be a combination of what is going on around the cabin and in my life, which means that sometimes they might be a scenic tour as that might be the most interesting thing that happened that week. But I completely understand if those are not your preferred videos. I do appreciate your honesty. 🤗
If the old tank is usable, why not fill both to cut down on deliveries? My brother always had two tanks while I only had one. I wish I had two back then. Connect both to your heater with a Y. In relation to game cameras. If hanging a camera high, put a stick behind the top of it so it angles down some. I hang them high so people can't reach them easily. Girl in the woods is in your general area kind of maybe. She did a canoe float trip with another woman where they camped out for a few days along the river. You could cut some of your lower btu wood for warmer times. Save the higher btu wood for the coldest days and nights.
Hi Dashbshots! I had thought about this at one time but wasn't' sure if the red tank that held diesel could be used for heating oil. And by bartering with my contractor who needed tanks for his property I was able to get the back of the property leveled and trees felled that were in jeopardy of falling on the cabin. The new tank was not all that expensive and is more than sufficient for my winter oil needs. In the past two winters, I have had the 300-gallon tank filled twice with about 100 to 150 gallons left over oil come spring. The new tank is 500 gallons so should be enough to last me all winter, and by the time I need it for the greenhouse it will be warm enough for the oil company to drive down my driveway again. 🤗

Thank you for clarifying . on staying on your property until you die. I have aging parents and they are not doing well, just barely holding thier own. They are adamant on staying put until they die or something happens to put them in thr hospital. I respect that and hearing you only exemplifies it further. While family members push to make them get home care or move my hubby and i just keep shopping weekly for them and offer help if they want us to. Its what they want. I am not stressed about it but accept it. Thank you. ❤

Nice video!! I live in Michigan, where the weather is iffy. Put up a cheap cattle panel greenhouse. Have heat in it for spring and fall. Tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers do so much better inside then out. Just a thought for you.

Have you thought about using the garden towers..(going up instead of out.) That would give you more gardening space within your fenced in area.
Hi Betty. I had thought about it, but this garden space is temporary. I will be putting in a kitchen garden behind the cabin where space is not an issue. And before the back of the property was leveled, I wanted to salvage the timbers that the previous owners had used in their garden. I thank you for the suggestion, nonetheless. 🤗

Hey there Aira, how's everything been? hopefully well, I was kinda wondering about that large white tank as well, while it's empty, I would move it away from the house,
especially that corner, because 1 big snow storm and you'll have a ramp of snow sitting along side those wall logs until the break up in the spring, especially if it freezes,it may start lifting the roof,and that won't do the joints in those logs any good, that's for certain..just a heads up...i hope Kenia is doing well,I hope to catch your next live chat, be well..

I agree the water tank will be moved away from the cabin before snow fall. I hadn't thought about the buildup of snow against the walls (with or without the tank being where it is currently), because the eaves have prevented the snow from coming in contact with the cabin. But definitely better to take all necessary precautions that to chance it. Looking forward to seeing you on the next live on Tuesday. 🤗

Hi Leigh! I have only mentioned previously that I don't use the outhouse as my main bathroom, and did have another composting toilet, but found this one recently. It feels more like a traditional toilet and am very pleased with it. Though it was costly for what it is. Glad you enjoyed the video. 🤗

We lived on an island with no bridges stores mail etc. there were about 4 areas on the 22 mile Long Island thst were designated and lifeflight knew those coordinates. Id suggest getting with your local fire and rescue or lifeflight itself. Find out where the nearest landing spot is for you. Also, ask if you could be deemed as a landing spot for your area. Now, this would mean you’d have to agree for others to use it. That would be a rare event. However, it would ensure you’d have access. Just a thought. They don’t just go land anywhere, I believe they work with towns and parks etc and have designated sites. Now, it could be, probably is, different in alaska. Worth mentioning though. Most cases, you have to have fire n rescue come get u n take you to that location to meet the chopper. That’s what happened with my husband and although it was a short distance it still had to have some coordination with NPS and chh he piper etc. it’s a fine tuned, well oil machine
Hi Sandra! I completely understand what you are stating, however, it is as you mentioned where fire and rescue need to transport you to the chopper area. Most times, the choppers/planes are waiting at the airport and the ambulance will take the patient straight there. The road I live on while maintained, is not one that can be driven on very fast due to the nature of silty clay that it is composed of, and all the twists and turns in the road. Therefore, I doubt that the fire department/medics or flightforlife choppers would be willing to go that route, when it would be faster and safer to transport directly to one of the many airstrips that are in the area, most of which are located on the paved highways. This definitely a topic worth investigating more. 😉💛

Hi Kimberly! Yes, I have thought about getting a cat, but this will have to wait until Kenai is no longer with me. At that point I will be getting some puppies, and most likely a kitten too so that they can all grow up together. Unfortunately, Kenai is not friendly towards other animals. It might be because he thinks is protecting me, as he has attacked other animals even when away from our home. So, yes, eventually I will. 🤗

Love this update video. So great to see you and Kenai. Here is an idea…… when building the balcony is there any way they can add stairs with railings that take you up to the roof so that you can be safer when cleaning the chimney.? Stop one building behind that one trail camera that you're talking about is it like a greenhouse do you use it for herbs or anything to keep animals out
Hi Ladyhawk! That greenhouse needs to be torn down. The panels are so old that they splinter just looking at them, and the wood is all rotten inside. It is not safe to even be in there, so I do not use it. I don't think that most of it is salvageable. I do have plans to build a new greenhouse in the future. 🤗
Yeah I remember use making a statement that in the future you've got plans of making a greenhouse it's just something to look forward to to dream about wish and Hope and then when it actually happens you'll be on cloud nine while you're building it and doing it you'll get there you always do
Which you can also attach a greenhouse on the westside of your home and you'll have also a wood-burning stove to not only keep greenhouse warm plus it'll be shelter I'm keeping the house warmer to and then in the cold days you don't have to walk out in the cold to go in and go get food to make for dinner just walk through one door out the other and then also the greenhouse would be something to play in what I kind of do when I get bored just go to the greenhouse go play in the dirt and Munch while you do it too
