"The old adage “a tale of two halves” really encapsulates the NBA 2K24 experience. On one hand, the hardcourt experience is as good as it ever has been (as we should demand from a game that iterates annually), and there are a handful of game modes that allow all of that to be enjoyed without interruption. On the other, much more nefarious hand, MyCareer is nearly unplayable unless you open your wallet or endure an absurd grind. Even worse, mechanics like badge regression reinforce the worst parts of the microtransaction scheme. Beneath those issues, NBA 2K24 still offers a solid basketball experience, but it requires looking in the right places. Clearly, there is a love for the game of basketball on display in modes like MyNBA and Mamba Moments. But a lot of that love is lost the moment we’re asked to pay an absurd amount of money to compete in the main multiplayer mode." - Hry
Shoutout to the specific reviewer for keeping it 100% real. Micro transactions in 2K are BEYOND ridiculous. It’s disgusting the lengths they have gone to get into your pockets. This made me more of an IGN fan will definitely be following more of their reviews going forward

@@lateknight6851 MyCareer isn't the ONLY mode in the game though, which is why it got the score it did. If MyCareer WAS the only mode in the game, for me it would get a 1 out of 10, but there are other modes besides.

To those of you who always try to defend microtransactions by saying things like "No one is forcing you to buy them what's the big deal?"
This is a perfect example of why we always complain about it, because these companies always go to far they always attempt to push things beyond the limit to the point where it literally affects everyone's experience. This is why microtransactions are bad it starts off where you can ignore it at first but eventually it spirals out of control due to their greed

That's what a lack of competition does to every industry and product.
The last great 2k in my opinion was 2k17, when are we gonna stop allowing these companies like EA, and 2k to keep taking our money.
The only way to stop companies from putting less effort into their games is to STOP buying it. It's that simple yet difficult for people.
The problem is not the game is the people who buy this crap!
2k17 was literally the year where microtransactions started to become 2ks top priority and everything in that game compare to 16 regressed. Especially when it came to the graphics and park 💀. Not saying it wasn't fun but...

2k23 was my last 2k. They have to be one of if not the worst when it comes to micro transactions.

My last purchased 2k was 2k19 and it was on sale. Just can't make myself buy this stuff anymore. It's all about the microtransactions which have ruined the game for me.

2k9 wit kg on the front and 2k12 will always be my favorite games. It strated from 2k5 tho. Unbelievably, the graphics still hold up to this day

There was a time when NBA 2K was the absolute king. It was incredible how much the game imlroved upon and blew away the competition. Since EA bowed out they they have crumbled. Now they just exist to print money. They no longer need to innovate. There is no one out there to challenge them. Conpettion breeds excellence and it is sorely needed. EA failing was horrible for consumers. We need them in this fight. The days when 5 studios would out an NBA game were really great, its a damn shame making games has gotten so expensive and prohibitive to smaller devlopers.

I've long since given up on Sport gamers. They lack standards and even the "Influencers/Streamers" that are apart of that community don't care about the state of the game their focus is only on views and sponsorships. Massive respect towards ign for calling the greed within this game out regardless

The constant need for micro transactions has been an issue for me in nba 2K for years. Glad to see that they’re finally getting dogged out for it. Also the base basketball game element has been suffering for years as well.
All games were better before developers and companies jumped on the microtransaction bandwagon
It's not so much the devs, it's the people they answer to who have incentive based contracts based on microtransactions...they're basically commission based bosses.

My Career stories are so darn disappointing. Instead of telling a story of a character such as 2K16's "Living the dream", it's more so written to guilt you into feeling like you don't belong in the NBA without spending.

This right here this is the type of honest journalism we wanna see in video games. Anticonsumer behavior by developers in there games should be factored in to every review. Micro transactions have been predatory for almost a decade developers need to be told that enough is enough.

They should separate the MyCareer mode from the park making MC a skill based VC free singleplayer experience. Or at least they should allow using face scans in the MyLeague/MyNBA modes.
Keep VC to myteam imo
They used to have “mycareer skill points” and they removed those years ago. Now all things in mycareer are bought with VC

So anyone who already has the game, what is the offline MyCareer grind like? How long before your player can even hit a shot or is this impossible without VC?

It's not even close to impossible. But if the stats are below 75, it will be very inconsistent. Think of the stats as the make%. 70 stats, then you only sink it 70% of the time.
Mycareer gives you a boost to your abilities by completing mini on court tasks.
Not hard if you play everyday nonstop in your free time 🤦🏾♂️
