Stan's still got it. Even without the same movement he can rip those BHs like the old days. Hope he makes it back to at least the top 30 next year, what a win for him.
I think he can still compete in best of 3 but not in GS it might be too much for his body
Top 100 maybe
i actually thought from the beginning of the tournament that he was moving much much better than previously. his defensive movement will probably never be elite again, but his general movement towards the ball seems almost back to normal for me
If he was playing at his 2014-2015 level he'd be making a killing in this current era
He was strong in us season but kyrgios beat him twice otherwise i think Medvedev was champion in us open
I think after AO 22, Medvedev just hasn't been the same, knowing he was literally mere inches away from a 2nd grand slam. He never recovered mentally from it. Interesting to see how 2023 turns out for him, but 2022 was a heartbreak for him
I think when he saw no matter how much he fights or compete, people are going to root the same old idols (Roger, Rafa) and want him to lose, he changed mentally. He even said it after the AO final. Only player who could handle the negative atmosphere everywhere was Novak.
I agree to an extent. But also remember that he did have a hernia operation not long after the AO, plus he did alright at RG despite not liking clay, and he wasn't allowed to play at Wimbledon (so we couldn't see where he was at and probably tough mentally). So he's had a rough year but not all his fault
@@arcorke Yeah, the war didn't help as well. I think that the AO final loss wasn't the straw that broke the camel's back, it was a combination of factors. But yeah, he's looked totally dejected for most of the year. There's no fight in those eyes like there was when he won the US Open last year. It's almost like he's just going through the motions. Poor guy. He is one of my favorite players, so it's hard to watch.
@@tecnosinemusic In spite of all the press conferences he's had where he's said that everything is fine and he's mentally ready to play, something just isn't the same. He has his sports psychologist and he said before USO that they worked a lot on his mental game. He seems to be trying to keep everything inside, and that outburst he had today was an indication of how difficult it's been for him to walk the tightrope of trying to be Mr nice guy, and playing with the fire he had. Having close family in Russia has got to be a constant worry.. He's the one that brought me back to watching tennis again. Hopefully he'll figure it out or I'm going to have a lot more free time on my hands.
@@cgsanchez I thought the comment Meddy made in his speech after winning Los Cabos was pretty telling. He thanked everyone for being so nice to them that week. I thought it was an odd comment to make, but also an indication of how difficult things were and are.
Wawrinka is such pleasure to watch. The one who showed the blueprint to beat djokovic in slam finals. And made a great career against three legends. I hope he gets one more high in his career
Oh yes Wawrinka is a joy to watch. I can't forget the year he won the US Open. Man he ran a certain player ragged on the court. I hope he comes back way up in the rankings. So that he can play big tournaments without the need to play qualifiers.
@@STRAWYB that certain player always get injured when he is loosing to stan
@@deepakmahajan170 Oh yes that US Open final he had no toes left. Stan was too good for him. LOL
@@STRAWYB in 2019 he also got mysterious injury🤣🤣
dont know why ppl keep talking about big 4. I like murray but wawrinka won same # of GS as him.
Wawrinka brings the old power!!! Glad to see him play like old times!
Love how Stan is still believing and competing
It is always great pleasure for my eyes to watch Wawrinka's tennis. That beautiful backhand. One of last players of a disappearing tennis. Greetings from Rome Italy
Congrats to Wawrinka! I didn't think that he would win against Medvedev, but he proved me wrong. It would be amazing if he could win the whole thing after taking out the #1 seed. I can't remember the last time he won an ATP title.
Edit: I love how everyone is being so wholesome in my comment section! I hope all of you have a wonderful day!
Medvedev isn’t world #1 anymore even though he was the one seed
@@greensky9530 Oh, yeah! You're right. I forgot Alcaraz is the world #1. Medvedev was just the #1 seed for this tournament.
@@greensky9530 Read the comment again. It says #1 seed
@@linuskarzig350 i think, he/she edited his/her own comment but still gave credit where credit is due
@Zach De la Fuente Why do you read comments then?? It's normal that people talk about the events here😅🤷♂️
Love you Stan, really do, you're my idol, please keep on playing more tennis 🎾
Stan the man is back!!! So happy for him for us and for tennis. Great player great man. Style and class.
Just the kind of match to get Stan's confidence back, he still has that big game!
Medvedev just hasn't been the same guy as last year the whole season, his serve has been terrible (12 DF today) and the confidence in his shots just disappeared. He's been nr.1 and his best result has been a 250 event which is disappointing and lost 5 finals since his first slam 🤦♂️
The big choke at AO destroyed him mentally adding the hernia and the war he went downhill. And the problem is you would think he will start fresh in 2023 but he has to defend straight away 1200 points of the AO final
good analysis! he's just a shadow of his former self since the lost vs Rafa in january.
big choke in AO? He had mp or what?
12 double faults is absurdly bad
Great stats tbh
I was supprised how well Nick was reading his serve on AO
So happy for Wawrinka. He's indeed a genuine character on court. He must come back hard to fill the chasm of Roger's absence
How. How is Stan still fighting. What a guy
Stan’s backhands are like comets ☄️ 👌🏻 still got it.
Wow, the whole video, I was thinking the thumbnail was a spoil. But it was not :))))) I'm so happy. Wawrinka seems to be back!!!
Man that AO loss to Rafa really has messed up Med’s head. The guy who seemed so invincible on hard courts a year ago looks like a shadow of himself.
Really sad 😔
Medvedev I believe in you, you can do it you are a champion 🏆
Medvedev is going thru what every fresh no1 has gone thru, a sink in of your achievement and every pro has just studied you. He hasn’t dropped a lot of his ways of playing tennis but others have upped their game. He was formidable between 2020 and first half of 2021 of his trick shots, acute angle and instant response at volleys. He made many a headache. So coaches have studied him and found ways to beat him. He has to overcome this in order to stay at the top tank. Same for Alcaraz.
it is not the same for alcaraz. Alcaraz has much more time to improve. Medvedev at 19, didn't know whether to sit by the clock or wind up his butt.
People saying Medvedev hasn't been the same have clearly didn't watch the match. Medvedev played well considering this was his first match in a while, Wawrinka was in Stan the Man mode today. Everything went well for him; Serve, forehand, backhand, court coverage, stamina etc. Wawrinka would have won in straight sets if Medvedev didn't play fantastic tennis at the end of tie break. Still, it felt like Wawrinka was leading the match and Medvedev was trying to stay in it. Great shots from both players from start to end.
The Wawrinka backhand is that sort of satisfying motion that you never get tired of seeing.
Stan nice to see your great performance again gooooooooooooooood just we love u
Ese es el Wawrinka que queremos ver , vamos , vamos , vamos a elevar ese nivel de excelente jugador que es
I'm so happy for Stan arguably the best one handed backhand ever!!!!
@@asct3674 Gasquet has a little more variety, but without the Stan power
I love playing Wawrinka.. the final matches he played in the Grand Slam and won. I still remember every moment of it.. When he wins a match like this, I am very happy for him. I was expecting a lot from Medvedev this season, I don't know what happened to him!!
I forgot to say congratulations Stan 🥳👏🏻👏🏻 Best of luck Medvedev
What a scalp for Stan the Man! Great to see that legendary backhand back in motion 👏👏👏
Wish we could still see more of Stan. Beautiful power tennis
STAN is back! Glad to see such a good player in that shape we didn't see from a while
Great win by Wawrinka… didn’t think he would win after losing match point and the second set, but he showed that he still has much in his tank. Very happy for him. One of my favourite players on the tour - I can watch his backhand all day. A thing of beauty.
After Roger's retirement and the passing of the torch in general(Andy is not himself, Delpo is gone as well), i just wanna see one more GS match between Stan and Novak. I want them both in-form to go at it just one more time! Cos in my opinion that's a top-5 GS rivalry (if not top-3) ever. 4-4. I need the decider and I hope it happens in Australia.
Yes
Agree.. I'd fly down to whatever country that happens in -- the grandslam
It's 4:4 but Wawrinka is superior in Slams for me. 2:0 in finals. Last time at the US Open it even looked like Novak was afraid of him. On his best day Wawrinka in my opinion is the best player in history. But he was missing the same motivation against easier opponents always.
Stan would never be able to compete at his 2015 level. His knees and movement are shot. After being away so long, some of his focus is gone and he's missing shots more too
Too much this and too
Much thst
Go back to sleep clown
He’s also got a fukd left Achilles
Wats the other excuse
He’s too old
Did anyone tell the fed this 4 yrs ago ?? No
Watch out for 'Stan the man' the demon for the top rankers.
Stan is Old Elite. he only needs some level of form. Unfortunately his body has been shot by multiple surgeries in the knees i believe.
Wrong
His recent double Achilles injury is way worse than his knee injury in 17
Ask him
Love to see Wawrinka winning
The king of One Handed backhand had Return 💕👍
When in full flow at the peak of his prowess, he is the most dangerous player in the last two decades.
So good to see some glimpses of the old Stan
Wawrinka vs Medvedev H2H is now 2 to 2!
Old man Stan still got the moves when it matters.
His backhand obliterates everyone once it catches fire and he finds the correct angles! GG my man Stan!
Much closer to the vintage Stan! Live to see him ripping awesome victories and having more predator feeling in court
Happy to see u win stan we missed u❤️
Fair play to Stan after missing chances in tie break didn’t think he would come through in 3, huge win. The third set had it all, drama, partisan crowd, net cords but mainly some incredible tennis
Partisan crowd? Crowd is crowd.. Med should just care about his playing and not starting quarrelling with the crowd everytime he’s losing. So childish..
STAN THE MAN rolling back the years!
Stan the Man, when it comes to backhand no one plays better than Stan not even Fed,Thiem,Dmitrov,Shapavalov,Gasquet you name it..Even though i am a big time Fed fan but he is exceptional just he don't have many slams to support his greatness..hope he wins one before he retires.."Ever tried ever failed no matter try again fail again fail better", that's his quote and he live to it..go champ
Is Stan back?! I hope so! May his recent successes portend a full resurgence of his inimitable talent.
This year for Meddy like 2020. Then he lost to Anderson and Opelka. But in Paris he comeback to form again. I think this year will be the same. Maddie is having a very rough year after Australia, the war and the hernia. I'm sure he'll be number one again and win a lot of helmets. Just need a reboot and recovery
AWESOME. I LOVE WATCHING THIS GUY AS MUCH AS HIS BUDDY FED!!
Great upload, thanks! Love that the thumbnail wasn't a spoiler! Good job! Go Stan the Man!
He is back. Stan the MAN is back. Even though Medvedev is not in his form in this match, but Wawrinka really is.
The King is Backhand.Stan The Man.
So happy for this win. Stan has been making steady progress. Love Dani too but I hope Stan comes back solid now .
Il migliore rovescio del circuito. Grande Stan!
STAN the man ! I’m glad he is getting into form ! A great player when locked and dialed in , void of injuries 😢!
è sempre un piacere veder giocare Stan!
I wish Stan could do one more big thing before his time is out, maybe win a 1000 event. He was a late bloomer, I feel like he could've done even more with his kind of tennis.
they had me with the thumbnail, not gonna lie, specially after wawrinka wasted the 2nd set, good to see the stanimal back on form
vamos wawrinka !!!
Somehow these one handed backhands are so good to watch ... Like Wawrinka, shapovalov, Federer.....
Happy to see Wawrinka in this form.
Vintage Wawrinka!!!
0:15 linesman voice crack
😂😂😂
I don't think the highlights do this match justice, it was incredible level from both. Stan had firepower from both wings last night, something that I haven't seen in a while. He looked confident and I hope this match kickstarts an upward trend for his form
There's always something about Stan the Man winning big matches that gets me emotional.
Man, Warwrinka's just a nemesis for all high rank counter punch baseline players when he's on lol
Perfect thumbnail 👌
😂😂😂
Thanks for the quick highlights. Would 2 more seconds of handshake hurt?
Stan the man! Well done! 👏👏
Wawrinka has one of the best backhand , and when its on like today, he can beat anyone.
Legend never dies.
Incredible! Stan still is "The Man"
Tough draw for both and great win for Wawrinka ! A lesser man would have crumbled after the loss of the 2nd set.
When you thought you've seen it all. Nice one stan!
My idol. Stan The Man. Turn the clock back one more time, please.
Best one handed backhand of all time
It's hard to see this form from Medvedev. I hope he is able to recover. He and Tsitsipas have been shook after their heartbreaking losses. I hope they can come back.
It’s hard for you to
Not anknowledge Stan’s win
It kills you to see medvedev like this
@@JohnJohn-uh5ko lol there are 100 others acknowledging. Chill.
@@kainaatsingh1178
No this goes to those bone heads in countless threads slagging Stan off in the last 4 months
Give the guy a chance to get back on his TWO feet for gods sake before we judge him
Butter sweet way to enjoy this game
Medvedev can no longer just stay on the baseline playing offense and defense. Players have figured him out. He needs to develop a net game fast and improve his serve that use to be quite formidable !
Que jugadorazo es Stan the man! e un cra!
Who agrees that Wawrinka's backhand is the bestest among the best in the business
What a match !!!
Stan the Man❤
Go for Stan 🎉🎉
Wawrinka has one of the most underrated serve on the tour!
Stan back in the man mode. Such a legend when in the mood.
Wawrinka, great player. Without injuries, he would have had certainly won more slams.
Ça fait plaisir !!!
LET'S GO STAN! Backhand forever doing work. We saw the magic passing ability of Medvedev shine a few times in this match but he's not the same as he once was.
This was a heck of a good match.
wawrinka backhand is just awesome
Bravo Stan une victoire qui va te faire du bien au moral 👍👍
Such an experienced player
Я смотрю вся публика болела за Вавринку. В такой ситуации тяжеловато бороться.
The Man! 💪
Gasquet and thiem gone, Wawrinka had to win to keep a great one hander in the draw 💪💪💪
When you model your game after Novak's, you'll have the same weakness against Stan.
Djok has fine-tuned his game a bit, with drop-shots, S&V, more offensive and better serve. He knows not to play that monotone defense against him now, especially since Wawrinka's defenses are very weakened at 37
He's more geared and equipped for a Wawrinka match-up now. variety is trouble for Stan
Great, Wawrinka!! Welcome back!!Congrats!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏
Bela vitória meu amigo
Stan is back!
Stan played amazing! He still has the fire!
Can't believe this Double fault machine was no.1 few days ago.
Bravo Wawrinka, et sympa la tenue avec les couleurs de metz
Stan the man! Such a pleasure to watch guys with that much of a finesse, unlike pushers/grinders like Medvedev. Go Stan!
what quality stuff!!!
Medvedev était promu à une carrière de n°1 mais il est dans une mauvaise passe en ce moment. Ça fait partie de l'apprentissage et il reviendra très fort.
Wawrinka lookin good out there!
What a victory, Stan!!!
Stan the man🎉
