- I make an affordable hidden/secret door using left over Spruce boards from my pole barn build. This is a great quarantine project. I size the boards (cut them to length, plane and edge them) before assembling the boards into a shelf structure that I mount on a door. Check out this cool project.
Hi from Germany. Great job. We are building this right now. This is definitely the best video on hidden/secret bookshelf doors.
😍
Wow, thank you! Good luck with your project. Peter at the Reboot.
Great door to a secret office. Nice!!
Thanks Don.
Thank you
Glad it was useful.
what hinges should i use pivot hinges
Good question. Pivot hinges could definitely work. It depends on the design of your door. In my case, I made a light door and also supported it with a caster wheel, allowing me to use the normal hinges from the original door. Good luck with your project. Peter at the Reboot.
What is the material for backing of the door? The cost you said was 80, was that an actual door or just a piece of plywood? Great build I'm going to try this.
Hi Christen, On the Home Depot Canada site it is described as follows:
Masonite Primed Hardboard Interior Door Slab
@@TheWoodlandReboot thanks I found the door today. As far as opening and the door what type mechanism did you use. Did u use a wood book and gater latch or magnets. What allows the door to open and close?
@@christenragland8982 I was planning to use the wood book option. In the end, I have added not mechanism because the door stays shut on its own, i.e. there is enough friction that it essentially acts as a magnet. I pull it shut and it stays in position. A slight nudge ... and it opens smoothly.
Nice, ok thanks for the great tutorial and tips
I was think about using a book and gate latch but don't think that will work since it will be in swinging door. What type mechanism were you planning to use.
Can u tell us what size each cut is, girl here trying to do this.
Let me see what I can do.
