    Love this video! Here’s a lighting tip: if you have a white or bright colored ceiling, then aim a Maglight type of flashlight at the ceiling for whole room illumination. Put it as high as you can like on a counter top or dresser. You’ll be amazed how bright the room is and it’s totally hands free. Just make sure to have plenty of batteries 😉.

      I did this while visiting a friend in Florida. She had never seen anyone do that before and was amazed at how much more well lit the space was. My flashlight isn’t even a bright illumination. This is very effective.

    A couple years ago I purchased a few jars of jam to keep in the survival kit. The jam can be scooped out of the jar and heated up in a small pan. It become more liquid and can be used as a syrup for pancakes. I also put chocolate chips in a small canning jar and vacuum sealed it. Good for pancakes or comforting munchies.

    I gave both my kids a duffel bag that I started with items to use in case of an emergency. Each Christmas I give them more items. Most of which can be put away in the bag. This year there gifts were all in a plastic storage bin. I told them this is to be used for the meals in a jar that I will be making for them. Slowly but surely they will be ready for an extended emergency. I did tell them to eat the meals in a jar when they go camping or if there is a time they haven’t been to the grocery store. This way they can practice making them and also give me feedback on the ones they like. Eventually, I plan to give the small ThriveLife cans, but that’s a ways off. Just a goal for me.

    Great video! For the past few years, we’ve been gifting my daughter and her husband preparedness items from different categories: cooking, long-term food storage, heating, lighting, etc. They don’t see a need to “prep” yet, but have gladly accepted the gifts. Also consider a battery-operated radio, first aid kit, simple water purification system, and depending on their weather some rain ponchos or other outdoor gear.

      I bought a case of baby wipes from Sams. I've given several packs to each if my family members and close friends. I then explain about going without water for 2 weeks when the pipes burst in the apartment complex where I used to live during the winter storm of 2021. There were so many apartments being flooded (management didn't turn on the heat in the vacant apartments) that water to the entire complex was shut off until they could get plumbers out to do repairs. I had 4 cases of bottled water, 10 gallons of distilled water and gad drawn up about 20 gallons of water in old cat litter containers (so I could flush the toilet). Thankfully we never lost power. My neighbors could get to the store for food so I made dinners for them to come eat with me...and introduced them to prepping for emergency situations.

    I bought a pancake mix that comes in a shaker container. Just add water. Once I've used what's in the container I can refill from a larger container. I use the bigger container first and save the small container for emergencies. When the "use by" date is close I use the shaker container mix, wash out the container and refill with fresher mix.

    We have a 6500 watt or kilowatt. I would have to look at it but it powers our whole house. Yes it is gas. I am going to have my brother help make an insulated storage box with a quieter muffler and exhaust outlet. We have used it for over a week at a time. We also have a wood stove that was here when we bought the house 30 years ago. It is big enough for a 2100 sq. ft. house but ours is 1833 sq.ft. One winter we wanted to see if we could go all winter without using our furnace and it kept the upstairs a comfortable 75 degrees when really cranking and the downstairs was 90. We keep it going so the upstairs is about 70 to 72. We live in the boonies i=on 17 acres and 11 of that is all hard woods.

    North Florida here. Friday morning we had several tornadoes and what I believe was called “high line wind storm” go through a number of areas in and around. We still do not have power. Poles were snapped and lines were laying on the ground and in the middle of roads. We have always been fairly well prepared. However, our big generator had a problem. Fortunately, we had extra spark plugs and my husband was able to perform maintenance himself. We do not have city water, so power is essential for us even to get water beyond what we may have stored. Thank goodness, we have several chainsaws with extra chains and a variety of different height ladders. You just never know what you may need and what you may need to do. As usual,I ❀ your videos and wait for them every week.

I would add a cheap manual can opener, paper plates, bowls, plasticware, small set of scissors and a lighter. I would also add a few more snacks to help kill boredom and give a comfort feeling. Then I would also add a couple card games, game book and maybe adult coloring books and color crayons. I might even add candles for light, heat and atmosphere. These last few things help give comfort during a power outage that can be stressful for some people

    If they have a south facing window you could add a 50 or 100 watt (Depending on window size) flexible solar panel pretty cheap to keep the Bluetti charged up not going to run the house but enough to keep headlamps and phones charged and maybe a tablet or radio and that thin panel will store behind a dresser or book case easy

    I would add some extra deep paper plates. They are a bit pricey unless you find them on sale, but they can be used as a plate or a bowl. Also some plastic spoons and forks.

    You said your daughter is in an apartment? While the butane stove is a great idea under normal circumstances, the vast majority of apartments do not allow stored fuel of any kind. The butane canisters would be cause to break the lease. She would need to check.

    • @wickedprepared
      @wickedprepared  Pƙed 16 dny +4

      Yes, it is important to check and to obey any and all regulations and agreements. Luckily, there is no clause in her lease pertaining to the storage of fuel. From what I've seen, most leases that include such a clause are generally worded in such a way to exclude "large amounts" of fuel, just as many homeowner insurance policies are worded. I suppose that has some room for interpretation, which is most likely intentional đŸ€·â€â™€ïž

      If I hit Mega Bucks (sp. ?), I'd live on a little hobby farm with plenty of room for friends and family to stay. My house would have a Russian stove designed to include both stovetop cooking and baking. I'd have vegetable and herb gardens, with fruit trees and bushes. Because this is a dream, I'd have a nice young family to help me with the plants and a small flock of chickens and maybe some goats. As it is, I'm an elderly urban dweller, so it's budget, budget, budget. One day at a time!

    It is not safe to use propane indoors, so I would look for an alternitive heat sorce.

    • @wickedprepared
      @wickedprepared  Pƙed 16 dny +1

      Typically, yes, portable propane heaters aren't always safe for indoor use, generally speaking. But the one I show in the video is safe for indoor use, although it's not a bad idea to crack a window or door open slightly. Using a carbon monoxide detector (like the one shown) is extremely important. But this particular propane heater - completely safe for indoor use 😊
