Proper way to fix floor, go in cellar have a piece of floor measured about one to two inches bigger than hole. Screw it and glue under the hole. Fill hole above with either wood filler mix or wood glue and sawdust mixed. 😊

In my experience, if you have questions about a tree, then it should go now. It will only get harder and more expensive to get rid of it later. I definitely understand the appeal of keeping a large tree, but the more experience I have the more I have to admit that there is no such things as a questionable tree near a structure. If in doubt, it probably needs to go away.
Plant a couple of new trees to replace the one you remove. Just make sure they are in a safe place.

    • @philipboyles2212

I live in Park City around 6500 feet elevation. I've seen trees that are leaning, fall onto homes and do a lot of damage. The tree survived last years snow, but eventually a leaning tree like that will have a branch or something give. The bigger the tree gets the harder it will be to remove and the more damage it will do if it fails. I'd definitely remove it sooner than later. Plant several new trees now in better locations. That way you aren't so sad when you finally decide it needs to go. Think of fire safety also. That might help you make a decision.

My husband is a worrier. We would need to get rid of the tree just so he doesn't WORRY every time it is really windy. There is no time like the present when Trent has the equipment to move big logs and to dig up the roots...along with plenty of soil to fill it in. So, yes, I would think that the tree would be best to go now. They could wait 20 years... but then it would be a problem. Just plant many trees around the property to somewhat offset all the ones you had to remove.

Take the tree out now and have some beautiful boards made out of it to use in your home. Or use it for firewood if you don't have the energy to use it artistically. Unlike in cartoons, most trees do not have a root like a carrot, they mostly have a fine root network where the underground structure is a mirror of the above-ground. So, the drip line of the canopy is usually where the underground roots are too. It looks like you didn't disturb that but you did take a bunch of earth out from below there, so the earth could slough. You could anchor the tree trunk uphill with a collar / guyline but that is a temp action - just take it out and end your worries. You can landscape when you know you're done building. Also remember wildfire safety - you really should have minimum 30 feet of space between your home and fuels.

Not having a man but having a hard working mother may have helped Trent decide what he wanted to learn.
He's known Brandon for a long time. It's possible his father was an influence.
Trent is also very driven and curious.
Allie has a personality to is both supportive and open to learning new skills.
She's not critical and allows him to make mistakes with security.
      Trent learns from CZcams, too!
      He's a sponge.
      Being smart and adaptable helps.
So much goes into being the person Trent has become and he's not done.
      Don't forget Grandma and Grandpa.

Suggestion JUST in case it gets cold before the window shows up ... my husband and I were in virtually the same spot during a huge remodel in Denver. Rather than board up the window opening (no light to work by) or letting in the brisk 20 degree weather; Joe made up a frame of 2x4s split in half. We stapled a transparent (well, actually more like translucent) heavy plastic tarp on each side (so there was a 1.5" gap between the "panes" of our window) and tacked that in to the rough opening. It was ugly, but surprisingly well-insulated and served to let in light and keep out the cold so we could continue working. Just an idea, just in case.

Luckily our 3 new builds in the area were done in a season each by crews. It was noisy! But we knew only for a short time. Your project has been ongoing for 3 years. How do your neighbours cope with the three year constant construction noise? Maybe the homes very close to you are seasonal winter ski homes? Not judging just an honest question from a country mountain dweller in Canada. Live watching all of your videos since you started the build. I love seeing what Leo's up to throughout the episode... anyone else notice that he's always "working" the same as the men, Dad, in particular? Today he was building with wood, as well as doing excavation "work". It is simply a JOY to see this! I hope you get some good advice from an arborist about the stability of the tree. Does Leo know his new bedroom yet? Would love to hear or see his reaction to that big news!!

Bondo! Use Bondo to repair the hole. I tried it to make some repairs on a rotted wood spot on our RV. Big fan of this product now!
I’m a Master Gardener, so I’m a big fan of trees. I have two thoughts on the big tree. First, the roots of the tree are stabilizing the hillside. Remove the tree and the roots will die, eventually destabilizing the soil on the hillside. Second, if you thin the tree canopy, it will lessen the potential snow load that the tree could carry. That will reduce the risk of the tree falling because of a wet, heavy snow.
If you decide to thin the tree, hire a registered arborist so you know they are doing it correctly.
Good luck, and thanks for the content!

The plans were that drain pipes were to be on top of the concrete foundation at the base. At the base of it, the concrete was wider, than the upper portion of the concrete foundation, and that is where the drain pipes were to be put. Trent explained all of this several episodes back. Prior to when they had the exterior of the concrete water proofed. So I am guessing what ever company water proofed, likely already put in the drain pipes as well. They did not show much of that, since they were not the ones actually doing the work.

Get a good arborist ( i.e. one who believes in keeping trees if at all possible but not to the danger of people) to check out the health & position of trees on your property! It may cost a few hundred $$$ but well worth it!

It’s so exciting to see the layout. What a team you have going on there! 😊
