  • OUR FIRST VIDEO IN OVER A YEAR!! Where have we been?!
    We wish we could say we were lost in Warderick Wells all this time, but the reality is a little different. Join us in this long awaited update, where we weather out one of the seasons strongest fronts, get lost on a remote island, discover The Bahama's only native mammal, and hide a treasure stick. Yes that's right, we hide a stick.
    (Keep watching to find out why we haven't been posting videos & we'll keep our whereabouts updated in future episodes).

    Watching your video is such a relief. We have done this hike twice. Both times we had a similar experience. Lost lost lost. Never found the bridge. Never got to Boo Boo Hill. We figured we were just inept and finally gave up. Frustrated we just kept the experience to ourselves. We now feel vindicated. Thank you for sharing. Hope to see you on the water. Look for MV Joy. We will be in the Exumas in April and May 2023.

    It is so good to see you two again. I get the break. It seems like people are going after several sailing channels. I look forward to any content you post. Welcome back.

      Thank you! It feels really good to be back! We've heard about this happening to other channels too - something fishy is going on, who would benefit from sabotaging sailing channels?...

      Well the prime algorithm constantly pushing food, diversity and really dodgy history shows to me for months despite blocking and even reporting the channels to try and tune the feed. All I watch is sailing, boats, military and the push is dire…

    I got into freediving a few years ago after watching your Blue Springs video. Not long after I got Level 1 Certified. Finally hit 50' there last weekend. My goal is to make it to the Grim Reaper sign. Glad I clicked on your channel and stumbled on your sailing adventure! Amazing, you and your partner living out your dreams! God Bless and be safe out ther!

      When we originally set out we're were having so much fun being silly, but as the days went on we stopped making the skits. But fear not, we're gonna do something and I'm sure it will be dumb ;)

    Happy to see you guys back - as planning-to-be-first-time-sailors too, it was inspiring to watch you guys go through the process. I'm a techie so I enjoyed seeing how you've been up-fitting your boat to suit your life and travels. I'm sure it gets hard trying to do life and make a quality video for the masses; however, I know personally I enjoy seeing the humanism and experiences behind the videos, so if it's not the "perfect" production, it won't bother me - hell I won't even notice. More power to you both!

    Great video! Hope you're both well!

    Lol, I think we never talked to you about this but we got SOOOO lost in WW on the same trail. We had flip flops, no water, no vhf, and no phones or GPS. I thought we'd never find the trail back and we'd have to sleep out in the bush. We never did find pirates lair, but thankfully we found our way back to the anchorage. Heather got into a ton of poison wood and the effects lasted for WEEKS. Miss you guys, sorry you won't get paid for the video but it was really good.

    • @TakeTheWaters
      @TakeTheWaters  Před rokem

      Haha, oh man that's so funny. Those trails were no joke! I'm pretty sure most don't even go past Boo Boo Hill - it seemed like the farther we went the crazier we were for doing it. We absolutely thought we were going to have to sleep in the bush too, lol. What wasn't caught on camera was the actual, and several, "what have we done?!" whimpers. Yikes about Heather getting the poisonwood reaction! Luckily didn't get anything from grabbing all the leaves. We miss you guys too! Enjoy the islands - hope to see you both again one day!

    Love your channel. So sorry for all the run-around you've had to go through. Have you ever thought about just doing live feed and just editing out the parts you don't like. The Nomadic Movement is a successful YT channel and they found out that what really matters in terms of views and likes is story not all their time consuming skilled editing. Also the Canadian that has successful Vanlife YT channel.. he just records everything live and then posts it the same day or the next day. We like the idea of you guys having easygoing fun recording your adventures!!

    YT is a real pain in the nuts when something tickles the AI the wrong way. We've seen it enough to where we don't even make videos of our shenanigans so as not to waste our time. I get it that some people make them for fun (such as yourself) or to share with family/friends (us on occasion). The few times we tested making unlisted videos took so much time between filming and editing, we just said screw it. The filming took away from our enjoyment of our free time because we were always looking for the perfect shot and doing multiple takes. I can't imagine how much time Sailing Uma puts into their videos. Anyway, on the editing end of it, we found that we were averaging roughly 30-60 minutes for every minute of finished video. No idea if that's average, fast, or stupid slow, but we'd make several orders of magnitude more if we put that time into our real jobs and our free time is more valuable than a couple hundred a month or whatever weekly videos would bring in. If that. And only once a firm fanbase was established. Plus merch. And whoring ourselves out to sponsors. And constantly rattling the 'ole Patreon tip jar.
    Re: improper click activities. I'm sure you've googled it, but here's what I came up with. support.google.com/adsense/answer/2660562?hl=en#zippy= Dunno if that helps or if you even care. :) Take 'er easy.

      Can relate to everything you're saying! Our cruising life became even more fun when stopped editing videos - it was definitely resembling a full-time job. And we wanted to do it for the fun of it, for connection, and just because we like being creative - so also understand the feels about rattling ons. Thanks for the link! Might take another go at getting it figured out

      @@TakeTheWaters Well, whatever you decide to do is cool by me. Put yourselves first, but know that we appreciate whatever content you put out there. It's always a joy to watch you blow boaters have your minds blown by hot running water or hitting 6.2... no, 6.5! knots. lol...

  • @davidwarnes5158

    Have a look at your outhaul line on the main , when you pull that in the sail should be close to the block on the boom. You have 2 feet or so of line ,
    Thats what causes that big curl at the front of the sail wrapping round the mast , and your sail rubbing on the spreader ,
    This is either to much wind in the sail 2hen putting it out , or the main sheet tight in and stopping the boom lifting to the correct angle , maybe kicker tight . When the sail gets baggy and you want to wind the sail tight in , luff up with someone winding in , this removes the wind for a moment making it easier to wind . Also you may have to let of the topping lift to let the boom down , sorry 25 years of sailing in mast sails .

    • @TakeTheWaters
      @TakeTheWaters  Před rokem

      Hey David, I was waiting for this comment and it's well deserved haha. I told Mandi I picked the worst clip for talking about trimming with the traveler for all the reasons you mentioned. The sail shape is awful. The outhaul is loose, the foot should be almost inline with the boom and we're spilling wind. I don't always have the right video clips to match what I'm talking about and to be fair I was probably running around the boat filming and not sailing.
