  • 2017 durango racetrack tail light water intrusion fix for those defective $1200 racetrack lights. Diagnose your water intrusion from where your lights glass parted from the plastic bezel behind it, bleed the water out via the lower outter screw from the light and heat gunnthe rest of the water/condensation from the light without burning/melting it. Silicone the edges and reinstall.

    Luis ,that is not were the water is coming in from. It's coming in from that worn out sponge gasket that i see in the video and I had on mine. Siliconing around the fixture is a good to seal those plastic edges. But the main issue is the 2 bigger Gaskets on each side of that inside.
    I wrote this comment on your other video upload....
    This has been an on going issue with that Durango track tail light for years. I had mine replace 2 times. The issue is the cheap big sponge gaskets on each side. Eventually heavy rain will begin penetrating through the upper part of it. I have a well documented open case with FCA about it . They said they were investigating it but they have not gotten back to me. I have been so fed up with the issue that on the last new replacement that was put in I sprayed it with plasti-dip. Plasti-dip is a rubber waterproof removable paint like material that has been used by car enthusiasts to cover up and paint parts of vehicles. I use it to coat those stupid gaskets that should have been made by solid rubber to begin with. I choose plasti-dip over a caulk because it is removable incase you ever have to remove the track light. Only thing is you have to spray some in the creases between the body and the light fixture around the gasket at least once or twice a year so it can continue its protectant seal.
    Hope this can help everyone with this issue. It doesn't matter if you get a brand new track light this issue will happen again unless it is coated.
    Thanks FCA for making such a cheap bullshit gasket. They have a 95K version Durango Hellcat with this same crap on it. They should be ashamed.
    I wish I could work for them and design a real rubber gasket for this issue since all the idiot designers there did not do a good job.

    Also if your car is more than a couple years I would advise you replace the reverse bulbs while you are in there . They made a whole LED assembly and left the reverse lights as regular incandesant bulbs . Replace them while you are in there and save yourself the aggravation of having to pull that assembly off again or at least from having to pull off the back rear plastic cover on the back hatch .

  • @chrisdorin5353
    @chrisdorin5353 Před 4 lety

    My wife has a 2015 Durango SXT Plus with the same issue. In the large part of the tail light (that you removed) she has an issue on the bottom drivers side part where it appears to not be working. Do you think that’s the case or water is just in front of it and it “appears” to be out?

    • @ClosedCasket5220
      @ClosedCasket5220  Před 4 lety +1

      If racetrack light is completely dead or faded completely to no illumination, theres not much you can do at that point cause there isnt a way to repair or restore that led light to functionality. So in essence you have to buy a new one, they sell a couple of used ones on Mercari, Ebay, and junkyards for roughly 200+. Now if the light is dim in the areas you were talking about, you can open the trunk door and on the side of the racetrack light (on the side of the trunk door) there are 2 screws that hold the top and the bottom of the racetrack light on both sides, remove those screws and bleed out any water that has accumulated. Carefully without burning the plastic, Heat gun the condensation inside the light, and then you have to follow the video to prevent the water intrusion using the silicone gel around the areas in which the plastic light parts from its bezel/housing (black part behind). Hope this helps, this helps mitigate more damage to the racetrack light. You should inquire with Dodge on possible repair/replacement of that pricey racetrack light.

      No, the purpose of this vid is either to avoid the damage before the fact, or to mitigate more damage after whatever damage has happened.
