Thanks Alasdair for an excellent analysis of the Leicester game. For the Q&A - It has been mentioned that Gianni Vio has a huge number of set piece routines but I wonder how the players know which one is going to be used at, for example, a particular corner or free kick. Are the team given a small set to empty before each game?
Yeah, thought Bentancur was outstanding yesterday. MotM, even with Sonny’s hatrick. The amount of balls he “nicks” is unbelievable. He’s got it off to a T, like an art. If he could only sustain a run of adding goals & assists to his game, he would be the complete midfielder. If we do go to a 3-5-2, I really think the shackles could come off Bentancur. I’ve been saying it for months, the lad could be world-class. I LOVE him to bits, he’s great.
@@oracleman2390 Keane was a bit more of an ‘up & at ‘em’ battlefield midfielder, more in the Hojbjerg mould I would say. Whereas Bentancur is a bit cleverer. His timing is impeccable & he’s gracious on the ball. Don’t get me wrong, Keane was a great player & I truly hope Bentancur has half the career he had but they’re very different types for me.
I have a serious question, what do you make of the argument that Perisic has been negatively affecting Son's performance this season? Come to think about it most if not all Son's brightest moments this season were when Perisic wasn't on the pitch. Southampton, Fulham, and now Leicester - doesn't strike to me as mere coincidence really.
I think it is Richarlison and specifically his inclusion over Kulusevski which has affected Son more than anyone else-the front three idea may look impressive on paper but without competent service from the wings they have to try and batter their way up through the middle and it just does not work. No disrespect to Richarlison but he unbalances what was becoming a seriously dangerous attacking force, we are at our best with just two up front.
It’s a load of crap from people that aren’t Spurs fans, they’re Son fans. I’ve been comparing them to LeBron fans, who love the player but don’t root for the team/club they play for. Son is the heart of Spurs but hit a rough patch and deserved to be rotated. I’m thrilled he’s back and flying before the break. Perisic is not making him worse, despite what these morons who don’t know anything about football strategy say.
SON-MANIA that has a ring to it. Definitely agree with having 3 midfielders and hopefully Gill can get his moment in the midfield 3 (Carabou cup game). Thanks for the upload Ali G. #coys
LOVE the 3-5-2 idea with Kulu RWB. Solidifies our midfield but gives perisic and Kulu/other RWB the freedom to get forward and create. I could also see him playing as a 10 which we know he loves. I also think a strike partnership up top would benefit richy too! Great video as always Ali! Cheers

Thanks Mr Gold.. Awesome as always!! Q&A.. I think we had a fantastic summer window and our squad now has depth like never before. Do you think we need to strengthen again in January and if so, where?
Totally agree about Bentacur. As most fans I adore Sonny and am so happy he has shown up the doubters. I think he saw the gaps when he sat on the bench and just went for it.
Our ball retention really needs to improve if we want to dominate teams and win games more comfortably. At times, we made a poor Leicester team look decent and it has been a common theme in most of our games this season. Too many balls out from the back to no one or players marked. Still unbeaten in the league so can't complain too much.
hey ali, great vid as always. do you know how close to full fitness skippy is? (bonus fun question: which actor would play you in a film of your life?)
An enjoyable watch and I am sure that all us Spurs were delighted to see Son come on and score a hattrick. Bentancur and Hojbjerg were immense. Dier was excellent and Sessegnon continues to improve, though, he should have done better with their equaliser, which made it 2-2. Shout-outs for all the goal scorers, and let's not forget Hugo's important saves, but all of that doesn't disguise the obvious weakness on our right-hand-side. Perisic started on the right but that didn't work. So, Conte switched the wingbacks and eventually brought on Emerson to give us a better balance. Richarlison and Perisic have slotted in well, but it's too early to judge Bissouma and Lenglet, though, both have undoubted quality and should be a success. On the plus side, it was good to see Conte make early substitutions. Good win. COYS.
Great videos as always Ali. Question: Conte's contract - do you think the option for another year or a new contract is likely to happen during the season or will he leave us waiting until the end? What has Conte done in the past with contracts?
Fantastic video again Alasdair! Lloris, Bentancur and Son played fantastic against Leicester. Bentancur is so underrated and his goal was a phenomenal interception from Ndidi and fantastic shot hitting the inside of the post. Sanchez played like Sanchez and overall Sessegnon didn’t impress me. I’m all for the 3-5-2 formation, Bissouma looked great in his cameo role. Things are looking up at Hotspur Way, despite the over the top Son fans who think he can do no wrong and hate Conte for benching him when he rightfully deserved it based on performance. I am thrilled he broke his goalless drought with a hat trick but he deserved to not start after his poor start to the campaign. I trust in Conte, the NLD away scares me but hopefully Spurs come out with energy and pace. COYS!!
Best wishes to the child going off to university...and to mom and dad in facing that exciting but difficult transition. I can only anticipate it at the moment, with the same anticipation, as our son (also an only child) is still "only" a 10th grader...but then, time flies, as they say.
It will be interesting to see if/when the performances catch up with the results. Or whether this is exactly how it will be until the end of the season: not putting in convincing performances, but picking up points.
It's probably been mentioned or you will have looked it up since, but the term for the period of time where players are most at risk of being injured after too much game time is the 'critical zone'. Injury afficianados like Ben Dinnery on Twitter have done pieces on it in the past. Great video as always 👍
Would love to see that Midfield 3 of Steel against Arsenal. I think your point about the extra protection it provides wingbacks makes me excited to see Doherty get up to speed. His off ball movement, link up play, and anticipation really shined at times last season. The added protection I think would help get a consistent tune out of him.
Listening to the recently released podcast I am curious to know if you use a different mic for pod and for YT Pods? 🙂 Your voice on the spotify podcasts sounds a lot cleaner and warmer to me

Quick Question: I saw a rumor online that said Conte was eyeing the Juventus job next season and this is why he hasn't signed an extension. Any truth to this rumor? Big Cheers, Todd
Thanks Goldilocks for another great video. However, I do fear for the NLD. We cannot keep starting games on a low key, considering those lot start games like a house on fire. I hope we come out of the blocks like Ben Johnson on double dose of steroids 🤭
Hey Ali, you're closing in on 50,000 subscribers! Congrats! Any thoughts for a 50k subscribers special? I'd love to hear something like a collection of anecdotes, or a 'my favourite stories from my career' etc
Hi Alasdair, do you think that with a player like TAA or Hakimi (ik they are out of our reach) or someone in that mold of player we can win the League ? Or is it the case that we can only win it if Man City slip. Keep up the good work btw😁
For the Q&A: what are your favorite features of the new stadium as a journalist on matchday? Also was wondering if you have a favorite NFL team or player after you mentioned redzone Keep up the great videos as always!
Fitness coaches are worth their weight in gold. Having played at a decent level, the most notable difference in players was always the speed and fitness as the level got higher. Something always true in football is that relentless intensity wins games against less fit teams. We see it in giant killing FA cup matches all the time. The psychology of knowing that you can out run your opponent is conducive to a winning mentality.
We’ve rarely got out of first gear this season only played to our potential in snatches but remain unbeaten in the league. All top sides find a way, it’s highly encouraging not playing well and winning, sadly we’ve been down that other road all to often in the past. You can see what Conte is doing, trust the process, we are far from the finished article we’ll get there given time. COYS!
Can't argue with too much that you are saying. Always thought Sonny just needed a goal to go in I just felt he should have been rotated sooner for his sake as much as the team. I believe that Kane needs that rotation soon. My biggest issue with the team is this winning without playing well, I have been waiting all season to see some better flowing football, I was abroad for the Fulham game which is when we apparently were at our best. Love your Conteisms: pushing forward "in the right way" and at least a couple of "aspects".
Great (shorter) video, Ali. Admired the observations and delivery of key quotes. Maybe Conte's trying not to give away too much, strategically, about the 3-5-2? COYS
Great video as always Ali, thank you. With a high chance of train strikes taking place on the 1st October, could this have a possible impact on the NLD, and see it postponed?
Hi Ali - the 352 comments make perfect sense with Kulu doing the RWB to still keep the 3 forwards in the team. Will you try ask this type of question to conte next as it seems a good opportunity after that game. With Romero playing and the extra midfield I think sufficient cover for kulu - could be our plan B way of playing when we need to adapt as we haven’t seen that too much yet, only the occasional tweaks in games like Marseille. Arsenal have been playing great football we must accept that and try not to get over run and try stop them playing
I’m not sure if anyones mentioned it but knowing you googled it after the video. But it is the Red Zone. Thanks for your insight and opinion yet again.

I would agree with Conte last year when he said that 3-4-3 suited the players we had then....I think its different now, this season teams have worked out how to play against our system and this season our strikers have been weak at creating and taking chances...I feel with Bissouma we now have a midfield three that can compete and overpower anyone in the Premier league...nobody is going to run through those three players.....In the second half we had Pierre and Rodrigo bombing through the middle with Kane and Son on either side of them, it was great to see and their defence had no idea how to deal with them.We MUST play this system against Arsenal in our next game the last thing we need is to get overpowered in the middle of the pitch.
Contes quotes after were great with regards to competition and rotation. Do you think if the 3-5-2 is here to stay then rather than signing another forward to replace Gil, they look to bring in that creative attacking mid like Maddison in January?
Do you think football could benefit from still playing games during International breaks? Would get rid of the "English players are tired" excuse at international tournaments. Rugby currently does this and it gives so many opportunity to young/ fringe players to make their mark - instead of waiting for injuries!
Another fantastic video Alasdair. Questions: Do you think Djed Spence will get a run in the team?? Questions: Are you going to cover the World Cup in Qatar fly out there I mean??
It was such a strange game. The passing in the game was so bad, the goals were great. So pleased for Sonny👏🏻. But I still worry about playing That team on 1st October. Sanchez still makes mistakes.😱
Goldilocks, I take some life little lessons from events such as Son being benched. I can't remember when Son has been benched or rotated. He's been seen as a guaranteed starter, so it must have been like a humiliation to him. However, the incident that could have made his head drop became one of his greatest moment of triumph. If Son had started and scored a hat trick, it wouldn't have the same impact as a sub scoring 3 goals in 13 minutes spell. Mentality is important and how we respond to what we might perceive as adversity is also very important.
I can’t disagree with anything you said. Spot on on everything. Like what you said about Sonny before yesterday’s game. It did happen indeed. I love your suggestion of a midfield of 3 with Bissouma, with Deki as our right wingback. I think that would be perfect for the NLD which will be very tough, no doubt about that. I loved what you said about Antonio, yes he is THE man for us, and Levy knows it too, which is great cause the club will back all his decisions, so if he feels that, he will stay with us. Last thing : congrats to your daughter for her 1 st year at university. That was a great vid, very interesting indeed. 👍
Great listening to your thoughts as usual Alasdair and I'm sure your daughter will do fine at Uni, especially if there are any Spurs supporters there. I wonder if I might ask you whether you think the reason we were SO poor against Sporting might be because in European games we need to be starting with someone like Gil who when on loan played that type of game week in week out?

Think we should wait for Conte to let us know what his selections are one game at a time. New times, new attitudes, squad rotation. In terms of points, he is getting it right. Sure he cannot understand the constant commenting on selections. He knows what he is doing. 💪🏿 COYS
Cheers Ali 👍🏻🥇
Yep Bentancur, Hojberg, Loris and Son were awesome.
However, we are still giving teams way to many chances.
Nervously awaiting NLD.
Hojberg??? First half was so bad but he did pick up I guess

@@kpceo9380 I agree 100%, I see hojberg getting praised in games where he's been awful, he does have good games but against quality midfields he looks like a dog chasing his tail, but I think in a 3-5-2 he will flourish, with two ball playing midfielders like kulesevski bentancuar or bissouma in there with him
@@kpceo9380 Conte loves him, I trust him over you haters.

Great Post as usual 👌
I love how when conte pronounces something differently everybody just accepts it and doesn’t say anything, for some reason it makes me chuckle “Bryan Jill” “winky” he’s such a character it’s hard not to like him
My other half just asked "has Alasdair got a new video tonight??" 🤣

Thanks Alasdair for an excellent analysis of the Leicester game. For the Q&A - It has been mentioned that Gianni Vio has a huge number of set piece routines but I wonder how the players know which one is going to be used at, for example, a particular corner or free kick. Are the team given a small set to empty before each game?
Been waiting for this.
He plays like Roy Kean
@@oracleman2390 Keane was a bit more of an ‘up & at ‘em’ battlefield midfielder, more in the Hojbjerg mould I would say. Whereas Bentancur is a bit cleverer. His timing is impeccable & he’s gracious on the ball. Don’t get me wrong, Keane was a great player & I truly hope Bentancur has half the career he had but they’re very different types for me.
RK was a seething, embittered sociopath, apart from the fact that they are both human and play(ed) football for a living, there are no comparisons.
@@analogopithecus9630 😄😄😄
See clearly Son is getting a lot of disrespect from fans.
Poor excuse for Son misfiring imo. He’s back now so no problem.
I think one way to test this would be to play Perisic down the right instead of the left
Perisic is not making him worse, despite what these morons who don’t know anything about football strategy say.
hi Alasdair thanks for very entertaining and interesting vlog as always very informative thanks for the hard work you do take care stay safe

Cheers
Hi Ali, visting home from NZ with son for his 21st (thanks to Hilary stadium tour guide) my first ever EPL game completely lost my voice, it just about had eveything you could have wished for such an entertaining game, sat in lower east stand perfect Sony-vision, so, so lucky to be there keep up the great videos👍off to tell the Gaints, and All Black fans how great this stadium is 😉
Bentancur first Spurs goal fantastic forsite and finish pity overshadowed by sonny hatrick. Both memorable.

Totally agree on the Seinfeld link, I always think Cant Stand Ya when I hear his name 😂
Thanks Ali, good luck to your Daughter. COYS!
Thanks for these videos, Ali. Always look forward to em. Q for you: what do you make of the news going around that conte might make a return to juve?
Listening to the recently released podcast I am curious to know if you use a different mic for pod and for YT Pods? 🙂 Your voice on the spotify podcasts sounds a lot cleaner and warmer to me
Another great video! Thanks for all your insights yet again. Plus a Seinfeld reference!!! Congratulations to your daughter on her move to University. Hope the transition goes well for all. Quick Question: I saw a rumor online that said Conte was eyeing the Juventus job next season and this is why he hasn't signed an extension. Any truth to this rumor? Big Cheers, Todd
Great video Alistair coys ☘
Come on Alasdair I think we all know Conte will be going in the Summer, Keep up the Good work As always.
Keep up the good work btw😁
another good video mate not bad winning 6 2 when we were so sloppy for 60 mins
For the Q&A: what are your favorite features of the new stadium as a journalist on matchday? Also was wondering if you have a favorite NFL team or player after you mentioned redzone
Keep up the great videos as always!
Hi Ali
Is the absence of Moura linked in any way to his interview in SoFoot?
COYS
The impact of the switch to 3-5-2 was immediate. Having Son come more inside was perfect for him and Kane.
Always enjoy these, Ali, but I can't imagine you ever watching one of them back.

Hi Ali , do you think we will go for any players in Januarys window ?
Do you think football could benefit from still playing games during International breaks? Would get rid of the "English players are tired" excuse at international tournaments.
Rugby currently does this and it gives so many opportunity to young/ fringe players to make their mark - instead of waiting for injuries!
I remember when we signed Bentancur juve fans was happy and posted thank god’s we buy the deadwood from them 😂 now look at him and look at Juve 😂
Another fantastic video Alasdair.
Questions: Do you think Djed Spence will get a run in the team??
Questions: Are you going to cover the World Cup in Qatar fly out there I mean??

Last player I remember off the top of my head to score a hat-trick off the bench was Hernandez for United against Villa in the premier league
glad I’m not the only one who only hears CANT STAND YA 😂
I wonder if I might ask you whether you think the reason we were SO poor against Sporting might be because in European games we need to be starting with someone like Gil who when on loan played that type of game week in week out?
hi is there any news about the stadium naming rights, as this seems to be dragging out abit?
I hope Conte starts with a 352 against Arsenal. We mustn't lose that game.
Will you be doing any of these during the international break? Idk if I can live without them lol
Absolutely agree that 3-5-2 would work for us, with Kulu working as a wingback! Fantastic idea, and lots of people are saying it.
