This is very cool project for make a simple battery level indicator for 12/24 volt battery. You can control voltage depending on battery. Also you can make auto cut battery charger using this project.

hallo and thanks.... in your diagram .. there is 18k resistor .. but in video subtitle wrote 1k .... and i Replaced 56k resistor to another value to work good...thanks again
That solder tip is really filthy. You might want to clean it. Really awesome and neat handwork though. Solder traces look really good.
I love 'how to' videos that just show you without any spoken word. somehow they are so much more efficient at teaching the subject matter.
That is NOT a charge level indicator. It is a Voltage indicator. And the relationship between the amount of charge and the Voltage of a battery is NOT linear. This type is indicator is widely used and it shows a good charge until the battery is about 90 to 95 percent discharged. Then, it rapidly goes down the Voltage steps as indicated by the LEDs for that remaining 5 or 10 percent of the full charge. You are mislead into thinking your battery is just fine when it is really about to die on you very quickly.
In this day of PIC style processors, we should be able to build a $10 circuit that actually keeps track of the actual CHARGE that is left on a battery. But with trash circuits like this around, no one is doing so.
As for those who are asking for a circuit diagram, look in a 30 or 40 year old LINEAR IC spec book by National Semi or TI or any of a number of others. This is NOT a new circuit. In fact, the IC used may already be obsolete and difficult to get. I played with them decades ago.

Can you make 12.1 volt is low and 12.9 volt is full indication that means I need per led off or on for 0.1 volt up or down
How do you check that it is currently charging not necessarily the level simply if it is charging or not

plz tell me what is the function of the preset in this circuit? and what is s1 in the diagram? is it switch?
With the preset you set the voltage when last LED will light up (battery fully loaded) So you can adjust the circuit for use with 12 or 24v bateries for example by adjusting the variable resistor.
With S1 you can change between Bar (graph) and Single Led (dot) display. You can use a switch or do a hard connection.
Let pin 9 unconnected or connected to ground set it to Dot, connecting pin 9 to V+ set it to Bar.

Applying LM3914 directly to LED will make LM3914 gets very hot. It is better to insert series resistors to each LED

Sir i tried making it without a switch but whole light bar is lighting red at all voltage conditions. Using a switch is compulsory? what is the specification for this dot/graph switch. I’ve bought a spst switch (one way), it will work or not ?
