What is drop Steel? Go to your local Fab shop and they will have a pile of "drop" which are cut off pieces from their projects. Because they are cut remnants, they will sell them to you for a fraction of the cost. In some cases they will just give you the smaller pieces. I buy all my steel from the drop pile. NOTE they will charge you for each cut so just buy it big and cut it down at home.

Dude, that's the BIGGEST 3/8 rod I've ever seen 😳
right!! ... haha big difference between 3/4 and 3/8
Lol😂
That's a great idea. I'm a fan of making tools. I'm a mechanic, and sometimes, i have to make a special tool. If i can't find what i need, or if it's too expensive, i just make one.
Thanks! I am making the finger brake mod right now. That video should be up soon.
@@scantronsgarage Cool! I'll watch it.
@@Snouthunter Awesome! Thx!
Fantastic economical addition for your hydraulic press!!! I'm building one for my press now. CZcams channels like yours are the key to helping creative minds build their dreams without having to be born rich as a prerequisite. Sharing KNOWLEDGE FOR FREE is the beauty of the creative maker community. Keep bending metal and creating and sharing your fabrication skills. If only the whole world would contribute & SHARE their skills like you do, this world would be a beautiful and very different place in our Universe. SHARING KNOWLEDGE IS THE KEY!!! And the greatest blessing of all. God bless, bro! :>)
God bless! Also, I am working on a finger brake modification to this brake. I should have a video up on it soon. I am happy my video has helped you out.
Thanks for sharing , clever youg man . Doug from "Down under", AUS.
Thanks! That's Awesome! I wish I could visit Australia one day
He'll yeah man. Love that you got your shed up and running and the content flowing brother. Loving your MR2 build man.
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your build. Awesome for the money you spent
My pleasure!! And this thing has been so helpful to have in the shop.
Grinding the 45*s on the die turned out real nice.
I think something like this would fit my needs much better than the mega bucks units available at tool supplies.
thanks
Thanks! I love this thing and im always happy to save some cash
This is great!! Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome! And it is still a wonderful addition to have in the shop.
Thats the way you do it.. nice and simple, very effective.. I have a little fab shop my self.. I mean little lol.. do what this guy is doing..
Thank You!! Keep up your good work as well :)
Nice work,great video!👍🏻
Thank you! 👍Glad you liked it !
Great Job !!
Thank you mr Jason 🤣
Nice work man I’m in the process of making one myself I built the press couple years ago
Awesome! It has certainly been a good addition to the garage. I just made a finger brake for this as well and I will have a video up for it soon.
Nice! Been contemplating making a hand brake but I think i will make a press brake aswell 👌
Thanks! I am going to make a finger brake for it next
Looks like the one I built many years ago 1” thick plates . Been Very handy over the years.
Oh yea! this thing as already been worth the investment
Let's see that press brake!!
Good job.
Thanks!
Nice work
Thank you! Cheers!
very cool
Thanks Jim !
Nice job . I think I'll build one of these . Thanks . :)
Thanks! I have a new finger brake im working on. I should have a video out on it soon!
Too small. I use a tractor drag blade wear bar for the press blade. Massively stronger and comes with a very appropriate bevle.anything that won't work 3/16th to 1/4 thick is useless. Dan-Co Fabrication.36" absolute minimum width.. nice little project.
@@dandahermitseals5582 good point
Nice build, I get all my metal from deland metal craft also.
Awesome! I didn't expect to hear back from anyone else in the area.
Hello… that was a great video. Very informative… I live in Deltona and was wondering if the steel company that you purchased your steel from sells to the public. Also was that drops of steel that you bought. Thanks
Yes they sell to the public and yes it was all drop steel. Thank you
Where is the video for the finger brake conversion? Nice build- thanks.
Thank you!! I have not made that video yet : /
? What name brand of welder you’re using
Lincoln Pro Mig 180. It's awesome
For the springs, just get ya some old valve springs..
Oh dang!!! I have some too. That's a great idea, Thanks!
@@scantronsgarage You're welcome !!
How has your angle held up as I kinda assumed a tool like this should be hardened?
Thanks for sharing!
That was my thoughts as well. I did attempt to harden it by heating it with an oxy acetylene torch and quenching it in oil however it never really got hot enough to be effective. All in all the brake bevel has held up well with no visible wear yet. It is also important not to try to bend any round stock with it. From what I hear, that will mess it up. Thanks for watching.
@@scantronsgarage as a press break operator i can confirm as long as its rough bending this will do fine just dont look for stupidly accurate complex parts
@@dementedbowine8681 Nice! My thoughts exactly. This is far better than the many years of bending in my vice with the big hammer.
@@scantronsgarage i see someone doing that sort of stupid stuff we are probobly gonna fight you never wanna use a vice to hammer stuff or as a hold to bend stuff its usualy cast metal made to do precision work not the place where you take out your frustrations if you need to bend stuff with a lever or hammer weld a strong u channel on to a thick plate put inside what you want bent and beat on it till the cows come home and if it breaks great find more scrap and build a new one
@@dementedbowine8681 Correct! which is why I made this thing : )
Either those rods are 3/4" or your fingers are 1/4". 😁
Great tool you've built. I'm curious, did you ever build the fingers? I looked at your video list but I didn't see it.
Thanks!! and yes those rods are 3/4 . No i have not build the finger break yet but it is still on my to do list. And thank you : )
Can you share a link to the springs. Thanks
Sure! here it is and I left it in the video information. www.amazon.com/Prime-Line-Products-SP-9734-Compression/dp/B008RG72QY
@@scantronsgarage thank you sir. Which size did you end up using? Sorry for all the questions. Amazon has several sizes listed in the description. Thanks again.
@@gemcitywelding7234 oh sorry.. 1 1/8th by 3 .
What part of FL? Thats cheap metal prices. Im in Central FL
Orlando/ Deland. I go to Deland metalcraft and buy "drop" steel
@@scantronsgarage yes! Thanks! I'm orlando too! Do you think I can contract you to bend up some tubing for my roll cage? I can cut and tig everything myself.
@@MR_71_BLACKBIRD In the future yes. I am currently needing to put all my free time into the v8 mr2 build
@@scantronsgarage I'll probably PM you in the facabook group for basic Q&A and buy the bender/kit. You're definitely someone I want to show my build to when it's finished. Following + Subscribed
@@MR_71_BLACKBIRD Yes! i want to see. send me some info on FB!
When you described the cutting list, the two solid round stock pieces you said were 3\8". I think you made a mistake as they look like 3\4"........
Sorry... you are correct, it is totally a 3/4 rod
Did you ever do a finger break
I have not .. yet.. but it is on my to do list.
Was going to ask the same thing but scrolled thru here first. +1 for finger break mod. Tks for the video!
Welcome! Since I am receiving some interest in the finger brake , I am more motivated to make it.@@Phoeff99
