      Ever experienced getting stuck simply because you have made wrong choices with builds and stats? It says on steam that I've played about 38 hours but I think I've maybe played the actual game for maybe 20, starting and restarting act 1 until I ended up finding the mods I felt comfortable with using that is going to help me because I'm really bad at it the game. While also not cheating my way through getting very easy wins. Also with the mirror and being able to spec my companions exactly like I want them from the second I meet them being the biggest thing I found the last time I tried playing the game. I feel a bit safer should I end up building one of my characters in a way that will screw me over later on.
      Since after Halo there aren't any real big games coming until February I was thinking that I might try to go for a full run of DOS2 this Christmas and january. Now that I've tested a lot of things and have a rough idea of how I would like to play and which companions I want to use.

      @@Bacbi I got a bit stuck multible times as the game is indeed very difficult but there are a few things that helped.
      Stealing really helps to get gold, spellbooks and good gear, especially in Fort Joy. Save the game and make one character speak to a vendor, switch to another and steal.
      Look up some good builds online if ou struggle, some skills are simpy really good on every character like adrenaline. The skillpoints were especially cryptic to me and I had no idea how to skill porperly so I looked up some guides.
      Upgrade your gear at least every second level, really makes a big difference and as i didnt do that in the beginning I struggled way too much.
      Find the right order to do areas as enemies being higher level makes them really difficult to beat.
      Lastly, a good team comb is important and the easiest route is going all physical to just ignore all magic defense focusing on crowd corntol. On a second attemp I beat Act 1 in Tactician mode this way, something I thought to be impossible for me. Including magic is more fun though but really chaotic as well.

    Most skills are just "beating around the bush" skills, my approach since i have finished this game twice on classic and twice on hardest: 1 choose skills that disables opponents, ie knockdown, chicken form, stun, frozen, atrophy (better than cripple) if possible focus ur party on either physical or magic dmg not mixed. 2. Always, ALWAYS, attack the enemy that will have its turn next (the portrait beside your current character) as much as possible disable them ie. knockdown, stun, frozen, chicken form, in this way your opponents wont even hit you. 3. learn adrenalin, cloak & dagger, phoenix drive on every party member, again disabling skills are your bread and butter. Thats it.

    >It can either be a strength, finesse or intelligence based character
    Or it can be a summoner) Since summoning is not affected by either of those stats it actually pays to invest in Wits and Con right from the start as a summoner. You'll have more HP, you'll be better at finding all those secret stashes and you'll always (or almost) go first. Also it's good to have Pet Pal on a summoner since he doesn't need other talents as much as other characters do, aside from All Skilled Up perhaps

    You missed one thing about Elemental Arrowheads; it combos really well with Elves and their Flesh Sacrifice ability. FS leaves you standing in a blood pool with 5 AP. EA the blood pool you just created to get Bloody Arrows, then use remaining four AP to shoot twice. Bloody Arrows increases your damage a good amount.
    It's not near as useful if you're a non-Elf, however.

    I'm not saying that RPGD's physical party is bad, because I'm sure it's fine. Just mentioning something I've used before here.
    A lot of skills scale with weapon damage, which makes Finesse Warfare + Scoundrel possible with two daggers. Most Warfare skills allow any melee weapon. So zero conflicts there. You can backstab with skills, but you lose range on Whirlwind. Battle Stomp and Battering Ram are vital CCs just as with any other physical melee build.
    You can also throw in Polymorph. Even though some Polymorph skills scale with Strength, it's still worth 2-3 points for the effects, and Heart of Steel is nice, especially if you cast it from outside of combat so it doesn't really cost any AP. Chicken Claw + Rupture Tendons is great (though IIRC they had to nerf the chickens so they don't run as far?).

    @andrewpeli9019 Před 5 lety +5

    Honestly I think the strongest group you can start with is 3 summoner/fighters and one hydro/necro just for support and blood rain and roll your character as an elf. Summon incarnate (blood) and elemental totem (blood) are just so strong early game. If you're an elf and you recruit Sebille you just use the racial for some blood and then make blood infused incarnates and blood totems that will win most fights for you, especially since your fighters will have war stomp and battering ram for CC. And you can put a couple points into int/str/per and the rest into endurance to make your characters super tanky since all that matters for a summoner is their summoning level and bouncing shield scales off the shield. With one hydro/necro in your group that character can throw heals, cast blood rain, give frost armor and tear up enemies with physical magic like mosquito swarm.

  • @mtaur4113
    @mtaur4113 Před 5 lety +1

    For pure tanks, I find that single-wielding 1H weapon damage sucks, but some Polymorph skills have STR damage that isn't weapon-based. Then there's Bouncing Shield, and not a lot else. I haven't tried putting points into 1H Weapons, but I'm extremely skeptical about it.
    Physical damage with a shield is hard to spam. Pure spell casting with a wand is easier. But melee is almost worth it just for the two Warfare knockdowns alone, if you accept that it's going to be a mostly non-damaging character who spends a lot of time spamming party protection buffs. A few skills scale directly with Armor as well. Shackles of Pain is also an option, but unfortunately the Necro passive bonus isn't going to be the best used on a tank. Two points of Aero just for Teleportation and Nether Swap can also be pretty useful.
    It's not the most fun role. Usually you just boost physical/magic armor and look for easy knockdowns, maybe using a skill to do Physical damage first if they're not quite at 0 armor. Mostly enemies can just ignore this character.

For example my current party has Prince as pure Fighter (with shield and some poly CC), Lohse as pure magic (mainly Hydro/some Aero), Beast as Battle Mage (split Warfare/Aero), and me as Hunter/Summoner. Why is that Kim? Is it cuz 4 party members gives you more options?

    • @kimkatsu1453
      @kimkatsu1453 Před 6 lety +2

      Well, i don't want to go writing a post with full calculations, because it would be too long and tedious, so i'll just write cliff notes version.
      Damage to AP wise LW characters have slightly more than 2 to 1 advantage to non-LW characters before you count boosts from gear and somewhat less than 2 to 1 after you do that (since boost to skills and attributes from gear aren't doubled). Since there are also non-damaging AP use in the game that doesn't care about being LW (like you don't get to teleport to twice the distance or have better stat boosts from Clear Minded, Encourage, or knocking opponent down for 2 turns instead of 1) the generous (to LW) estimate of AP effectiveness on LW to non-LW characters is 1.5 to 1 or so. There are corner cases where LW has advantages, like pumping your crit chance since there are only two sources of that aside from gear (Ranged skill and Wits), summoner since they get disproportionate increase on exactly level 10 of summoning (ncarnate champion) and they are having easier time to slightly invest into other skills just for their ability (for example, Cloak and Dagger for scoundrel requires skill of 2, so LW char has to invest only one point, while non-LW has to invest 2 points). Later is mostly offset by boosts form gear.
      Now, LW chars get 6 AP each, meaning that when you consider the effectiveness of AP i provided earlier, full party of LW to non-LW chars it's 18 to 16 in favor of LW party. That would mean the LW chars are advantageous, but there is another point - non-LW with all investment being same will always have TWICE the amount of ability slots on the party. Let's compare on LW character who goes full physical, he has two abilities ready - Battering Ram and Battle Stomp, but if we take two non-LW characters who are created absolutely the same, they will have DOUBLE of that prepared, meaning that they can CC an enemy for 4 turns before cooldowns restore instead of only 2 (and CD are same for all characters LW or not). Since CC is the name of the game that is D:OS, it's a very big advantage to have. Not only that, 4 party is more flexible in a sense that they can be in 4 places at once, meaning more flexibility in aiming those abilities, though somewhat more complex too since it increases the chance that at any given moment your character is in the range of AoE attack. Also there is a thing when you have your character CCed - with LW you loose 50% of your party power, with non-LW it's only 25%. CCing 2 characters is easier than 4, especially when your armor increases only by 30% on LW, meaning that enemies will have to do less damage before they can CC your whole party (though this is not as clear cut, since there are area abilities, so that advantage depends on how good you are with tactics and positioning).

      Summoner's are pretty tanky though. Since you really don't need weapon or other stats. That means you can focus on getting a good shield and pump stats on CON (and wits so you get to attack first).

  • @mtaur4113
    @mtaur4113 Před 5 lety

    Summoner is sort of fun to have, but it also synergizes poorly and it wants to take over your whole build. Mid-game you gain a few skills that have a couple points of pre-reqs from another school, but that's about it. If you summon one totem each turn, you only have 2 AP for random utility spells or whatever else you want to do. So they hardly even need Memory points, either.
    The ultimate non-scaling skill is Fane's skill. Or rather, it scales with the target instead of the caster.

      Incarnate scales with Summoning skill only. That means it becomes rather useless quickly if summoning skill is not leveled. You can do it but i honestly dont see a point. For example, 2 points into summoning can be put instead into dmg attribute and get 10 % more dmg.

    I can't seem to break physical armour quick enough to use my spells so am using normal attacks. However a lot of the time enemy will teleport n am down quick.
    I guess I could get more xp by entering the forest and perhaps killing off the fire slugs/frogs but I tried the big slug and got wrecked by a fireball. Also am too low for the magister's I feel.
    I suppose I could try n buy all the armour I can n steal some more but am I missing something big? I can kill a few things off but since starting even the crocs etc were tough fights...
    I managed to blanket the arena in fire and even after reviving two chars was wiped. I can't seem to get my CC to work plus then am caught in my own fires etc. Perhaps I need the rain n Ice combo. (Also got hit with blindness is it?). Even the pooch is a tough nut.
    (Have got the teleport gloves n done quite a few quests. There's still a missing dog n the undead in the dungeons. Plus some hounds which can prob kill).

      Moss Tarantulas your main problem is your playing tactician, by the sounds of it. Try completing the game on classic. Doing this will give u time to learn the battle mechanics and also you will learn what builds are best to use. If u need any help or questions add me on steam and we can hit the arena together or do a play through on tactician. Steam name is PhastPaws.. Either way good luck dude 👍🏻

      Savage Panda hey thanks I sorted it out by using a pickpocket n changed a few builds. I stopped playing before Xmas was at the last fight before finishing first act (oh looking for something to kill those shriekers cos it ran out)
      Doing a playthrough with you sounds like fun!
      P.s yeah tactician is hard. Am still working on getting a freeze build/better cc.

    I've had the game for a week and am nowhere. My main char is a Ranger (straight ranger not summoner mix or anything) and I used Ifan...and I am trying to go grab all the companions BEFORE leveling up..but so far I have walked to Red Prince and don't know what to set him as. This game is so good but it's so hard to get started..I am just constantly stuck. I don't know what to set my party defaults as if my main is Ranger...
    All the guides are too complex for a newbie and just leave me more confused (including this one)

      Cleric is going to need hydrosophist and necromancer skills. For Ranger you might consider geomancer skills or one level of pyrokenitic. Shadowblade needs Scoundrel and Polymorph obviously. Knight is less of a tank and more of a fighter definitely max out warfare.
      Cleric needs intelligence and constitution. Also depends if you want him to have a staff or weapon. 2 handed weapons become OP. If doing strength (weapon) build. Focus on strength, constitution, and intelligence. Hydrosophist skills improve by level and Necromancy skills have synergy with physical damage. You could also dip a few points in Warfare (It scales off your weapon [Str, Int, Fin]).
      Ranger needs finesse. If using spells then intelligence as well.
      Shadow needs finesse and intelligence.
      Knight needs strength and constitution. 2 handed weapon or one handed with shield.
      Bigger Better, All Skilled Up, and Pet Pal are all necessary.
      I'm sure you can figure out the rest. ;)

    will warfare boost bouncing shield dmg? or does the skill get boost only from the shield stats?

    • @neltymind
      @neltymind Před 6 lety

      It scales with shield stats *and* warfare. This means that it becomes rather useless on characters that don't put any points into warfare in the second half of the game.

    • @rpgdivision

      Not really. Even with few points into warfare it does a lot of dmg.

    • @kimkatsu1453
      @kimkatsu1453 Před 6 lety +1

      Warfare increases ANY physical damage you deal. Bouncing shield deals physical damage, so it is boosted by warfare
      And this skill remains useful even without lot of points in warfare since it scales with your shield's armor rating. Just remember to keep it on your current level and it will remain relevant.

      Full Telekinesis and OVERWEIGHT BEYOND IMAGINATION Ornate chest (because undestroyable). You simply throw or teleport it on top of your enemies (or throght them, i dont remember how it is done correctly).
      To build around it I guess you need alot of constitution, Elf and Adrenaline (for more ap per turn), Living Armor, Percevirance...well everything that will just keep you alive and as away from CC as possible. Also since it deals Physical damage, I wonder, would it benefit from Warfare...

    I don't understand why anyone would EVER want to take the shadowblade preset and I also don't see many reasons to take the ranger preset.
    The only thing a preset really defines what weapons you find in the chest in the registration room on the ship in the first area of the game.
    A shadowblade gets one dagger. If you take the rogue preset you get two daggers and you can change stats, combat/civil abilities and skills to a "shadowblade" anyway. Two daggers are simply superior to one. Even if you want to use sucker punch, you can just drop the second dagger in combat which costs zero AP. And even if you want to use only one dagger for whatever reason, you can still sell the second one.
    A ranger gets a bow. If you take the Wayfarer, you get a crossbow which deals more damage at the expense of movement and you change stats, combat/civil abilities and skills to a "ranger" anyway. In my opinion this trade off is worth it as ranged characters do not need to move much in combat and damage is by far the most important thing.

    • @rpgdivision
      @rpgdivision  Před 6 lety +14

      +neltymind
      Im talking about party combos. Its much better choice to have origins character that you meet take shadowblade because they have immediately access to chicken claw and chameleon cloak.
      Second dagger is so easy to find that its not even worth mentioning.
      Isnt it much better for new party member to get one more dagger then spend lots of money (in first region money is relatively scarce) to get 2 or 3 new skills?
      You might be right about custom preset but the difference is so minimal that i cant comprehend why anyone would even go there.
      Same goes for ranger wayfarer.
      If you choose some1 to go with wayfarer youre stuck with a bad preset and skills you might not use and +1 to Int that you dont need in a physical dmg party.
      Ranger preset is much more straightforward and useful. Especially if you already have cleric with geo as suggested in the video.
      Im not saying youre wrong. Youre not because everything works if done right but to go ahead and claim that you cant understand why anyone would go ranger or shadowblade preset, be it custom or on a new party member, is such a pretentious statement. Not to say unbelievably nitpicky.

      I honestly prefer to start as a ranger over wayfarer because I would rather start with a knockdown arrow instead of a poison arrow in my inventory (especially since antlers are harder to come by in Act 1 than poison). The bow you begin with will quickly be replaced anyway when you hit level 2.
