The line "someone tried to move the Earth once before" is a reference to the First Doctor story The Dalek Invasion of Earth which first aired in late 1964 and set some 200 years later. The second story of Doctor Who's second season it was the first reappearance of an antagonist in the show, the Daleks having appeared in the second ever story (called the Daleks, unsurprisingly!). It was the height of Dalekmania in the UK.

I thought he meant the Time Lords at first since they moved Earth in the first story of the Trial of a Time Lord season. And they actually moved the planet while the Daleks were just planning to at a later date.
I thought that was why the Doctor said "It can't be." as at that time he still believed Gallifrey was gone so surely it couldn't be them whereas he knew the Daleks had survived. I didn't think of The Dalek Invasion of Earth until a while later.

I just think this is an EPIC episode, definitely the biggest Doctor Who has felt up to this point and possibly still to this day! It's so good to see all the characters we've come to love across these four series come back for a showdown with the Daleks. With the addition of Davros, who's the creator of the Daleks. He's been around since the 1970s and is the last of the "big four" villains (Daleks, Cybermen, the Master and now Davros) of the classic series to come back. He was even briefly mentioned in series 1 during the episode "Dalek". Very much looking forward to the next episode!

This episode was absolutely massive, epic event television. I was absolutely excited to see this show as I was already a fan of both spin-offs. When I saw in the Next Time trailer after the previous episode that they were doing a crossover, I literally screamed with excitement and had to hold onto it for an entire week (then again after THIS episode ended!). They did it so well, having all these characters equally involved. It was especially good how they managed to integrate the spin-offs without you having to be a massive viewer of either of them. It was also cool how they brought back Davros. I was already very much familiar with him from having seen all of his Classic Who appearances. Julian Bleach does an amazing job bringing the character into the modern era. Finally, as if the whole episode wasn't enough, the end cliffhanger was jaw-dropping and left everyone wondering who would be taking over from David Tennant. There had been absolutely zero spoiling of it, even in the media. Nobody knew that he was leaving! So, definitely the reaction the show's creative team wanted.

And welcome another Big Bad from Classic Who! Davros first appeared in the Classic Season 12 story 'Genesis of the Daleks' where two nations had been at war for centuries. Davros creates the Daleks as the ultimate weapons, who soon turn on him. They killed him, but he got over it to play villain often. Also that remark of stealing the Earth is a reference back to Classic Season 2, 'Dalek Invasion of Earth' which pretty much was the goal.

And thus began the longest week in British history after this episode aired!
Or maybe it was just because I was an impatient 10 year old, idk.
However, the one thing I think this series needed is tying the theme of missing worlds together MUCH more.
For the first two, they're pretty good with weaving that in but then they just drop it. Like, for instance:
The FGABHE was only able to enslave so many Odd because they were scattered after the loss of their homeworld.
The Sontarans needed a new clone world after their primary one was lost.
The Hath are working with the humans after the loss of their own world.
The Vespiform lost their own world, sending one to earth.
The Vashtsa Nerada fled to the Library after the world they came from was under threat.
And Midnight, well that is already filled so ok.
Instead of just Pyrovillia and Adipose 3, Donna could say how it's been happening to them all along.
This isn't a MASSIVE problem with the series but just a couple extra lines would have helped tie everything together and keep the idea of "disappearing worlds" a constant thing for the series.
Davies did it best in S2, but it was just abandoned after that, which sucks as it makes Davros' whole plan just seem like it comes out of nowhere.

Doctor Who was on BBC 1 as a family show, Torchwood was on BBC 3 as an adult show, and Sarah Jane Adventures was on CBBC (aka Children's BBC) for.... well children. That said all the shows are worth watching (though both spin-offs take a while to get into the swing of things) but I totally get why for a reaction series it's entirely impractical to do all three, especially given the varying watch orders the fandom has all leading to a very uneven viewing experience.

The original BBC Broadcast times are the giveaway for content. The Sarah Jane Adventures was shown towards the end of children's tv slots, which by tradition would be suitable for all children but aimed at the older end of the demographic.
Doctor Who was broadcast at peak family viewing times.
Torchwood was early, post-wastershed, i.e. adults only but more "serious themes and saucy" than "HBO T&A right in your face".

My one complaint about this episode is shown best at the 10:22 mark, the introduction of Davros, to anyone who knew who he was this was a shocking and mesmerizing experience to anyone else it was a "who the hell is this dude"?.

Thank you both. It's so much fun to relive this experience with you two, albeit vicariously through a computer screen. Paula, enjoy this time. I'm so envious that you get to experience all of this for the first time; the surprise, the intrigue, the laughs and the tears (both happy and sad). Cherish these moments. Katrina, you are a great steward of Doctor Who, holding the cards close to your chest, while at the same time informing Paula along the way. I know how it feels to watch or do something with someone who has never watched or done that something before. You get to relive it through their eyes, so I know how much you must be enjoying this too. Plus we both know the Doctor never gets old. See what I did there? ;)
Anyway, keep doing what you both do. Can't wait to see what you think of the final episode of Series 4, Paula. It's what you might call bittersweet. Thanks for posting, watching and sharing. I'm off to watch Katrina watch TNG 1x13 now, and everything I said above about you both, flip and reverse it for TNG. LOL Allons-y!

A better description for Sarah Jane Adventures (SJA) is that it is Doctor Who, starring kids. It's only a kid's show, in the same way that Doctor Who is also a kid's show, ie. they are both family friendly. In all other aspects, SJA is Doctor Who. Don't let the "kid" aspect put you off watching SJA.
Torchwood is adult-themed only during the first season. After the first season, it tones down the R-rated scenes, also becoming like Doctor Who (with more death).

I think Sarah Jane adventures is more to draw in kids who then in turn become interested in doctor who. When fans feel doctor who is too.... Pg. That's when Torchwood comes in. Mind you that's from a ratings view point.
From canon I love that they seem to each cover a different aspect.
Doctor who and perhaps Sarah Jane are the fantasy and wonder of space and time travel and dealing with aliens with some danger but is more akin to a fairy tail with the hero always slaying the dragon saving the princess.
Torchwood is closer to reality. It shows the darker and grittier side of what could be and the hard choices to be made. It shows that the fairy tail hero isn't always coming and sometimes, more oft than naught, not everyone survives.
I've not seen it but I get the feeling Class was suppose to fill a wierd niche between the two. Young audience high stakes

It's from this actor/impressionist from the UK named Eliott Crossley; whose calling card impression just happens to be David Tennant/the Tenth Doctor. Here he is doing an audio reading of one of the Doctor Who-themed "Mr. Men" books by Roger Hargreaves called "Doctor Tenth: Christmas Surprise!" Enjoy!
