Hope every tourists use their common sense when they use tuk tuks. Not all are scammers, but having one is more than enough to destroy reputation. Really recommend to use Uber in Western province which includes Colombo and Negombo, Katunayake air port. Furthermore, if you really need to know the tuk tuk prices, its Rs. 50 for first Km, and Rs.30 or Rs.35 per extra km. So just check distance between to locations you need to go and do some maths.

Don't take normal taxi's (Tuk-Tuks) here in SL. As soon as they see a foreigner they charge higher fees. Pick-me or Uber is the way to go. Even if they think you are new in town they also trying to scam locals too. Really bad people (Not all). This is why we need proper regulations for these guys.
This looks like one of the better hotels you've stayed at. The pool had a great view (despite construction) and the gym was better than most for sure. Looks like it was a good price too. I would definitely stay here if I was in the area.

Yeah it was my last couple of nights in Sri Lanka for this trip and I spent way less than I thought I would on the trip overall so was happy to get a nice hotel in Colombo. I definitely got my money's worth out of it, using the pool and jaccuzis and steam room and obviously cleared out that entire box of tea hahaha

Sri Lankan people wonât really think youâre dirty if you get into the pool without taking a shower. We usually take a shower after getting in the pool. No one would probably even know if youâve taken a shower or not.
I alwaz use Google maps n if auto/ tuk tuk / cabs different route I tell them prior n if thy insist on taking there own road I get off from the vehicle. N if it's night I take the ride m don pay them. As simple if we fuck up our job we are deducted of our salaries or more strictly can even be terminated đ

I recommend you to go to Marriot resorts and spa in weligama. The view is absolutely nice and you won't get any constructions round there. So peaceful and lovely food.

Dale, that tuk tuk driver needs a good smack in the chops!!!... good thing that Google maps exist in Sri Lanka now so you can monitor everything but before technology it was hell trying to tackle these bastards!!!... Hugh Heffner style dressing gown!!! đđ€Łđ (I went on a tour of Hollywood and went past his house when he was alive!... he had daily parties!!!... girls shuffled in around the back entrance...serious sleaze bag!)... the Marino Beach Hotel is so cool as it's connected to the shopping mall so you can go there easily without having to step out on the street!...I wasn't aware of this until you pointed it out! đ. I loved that infinity pool!.. yes there's going to be a lot of construction work in Colombo as tourism is booming and they are trying to get that harbour finished as quickly as possible... more hotels popping up but everything is taking ages due to lack of money!.. the Lotus Tower has taken 6 years to complete!... another Chinese project along with the port harbour and Shangri-La Hotel... we are now "owned" by the Chinese! I have mixed feelings about it all...it's great that tourism is booming as the economy is relying on it and so much choice in Colombo for the locals (who have money!) and the tourists and visitors... jobs for the unemployed... but the danger is that the modernisation is encroaching the rural areas and now deforestation is going to affect the natural beauty and charm of Sri Lanka and villages will be affected and endangered wildlife, flora and fauna will be destroyed!... Sri Lanka is so naturally beautiful... a paradise but I'm worried that it will become over commercialised and ruined and turn into just concrete!.. many Sri Lankans are worried about this as well as the huge debt owed to China ...100 year lease!...there are also plans for new modern transport to be introduced to Colombo such as electric trains, underground tube trains, trams, cable cars, etc... not long ago we didn't have any of these modern facilities in Colombo...now everything is available and the new generation born into this is just being affected mentally!... can already see the attitude by the nasty comments made by rude, arrogant, lazy, jealous idiots commenting behind fake names and fake profile pics so their parents can't see what they are really up to!.. it's a shame as Ceylon always had a reputation for being friendly, hospitable, respectable, respectful, trustworthy... but a lot of the new generation are destroying what reputation our parents and grandparents built up...yes there are some very good new generation like Wonderboy Jeremy but you can see the hate comments he is getting by other Lankans his age who are cowards and throwing vitriolic comments in disguise!... I've caught a few out and gave them a few good words back that would be burning in their ears as I don't give in to these arse holes who have nothing better to do but pull innocent people down... they can't just enjoy something and give praise or encouragement and yet they neither can get off their arses and do better!... total failures of life!... This is about 400yards from where I grew up though it looks a bit different now! Have walked that beach many times and also the main road, some of the places I knew still exist. Best chocolate cake ever from Green Cabin not far away, and if you want to get something special as a gift Barefoot is really close. The whole of Colombo is growing and changing very fast, sad really because it was quite a beautiful city, the hectic pace is very wearing now.
I 'm a local and i had bad experiences with tuk tuk drivers. So i 'm used to my personal transportation method now . So for tourists i think it's great if government of Sri Lanka introduce a personal transportation method which tourists can select for their own personal choice.
Must agree, we stayed at the Marino in June. Great staff, and a great hi-tea for not much. And better still the kids had Taco Bell down the road. Great place.
Hi Dale. I am coming to Sri Lanka from UK and I've heard that Visa is free. So is it simple as once you land they will give you 30days free visa? Or do I have to do anything. Thanks.
Does this work for other countries as well? Iâm coming from Canada. I heard about the free visa on the news, but when I checked the SLâs visa site there was still a fee.

I agree and that one in India too was fabulous with his own little dip pool and outdoor shower area. Huge room that was my favourite one.

Sri Lanka is so naturally beautiful... a paradise but I'm worried that it will become over commercialised and ruined and turn into just concrete!.. many Sri Lankans are worried about this as well as the huge debt owed to China ...100 year lease!...there are also plans for new modern transport to be introduced to Colombo such as electric trains, underground tube trains, trams, cable cars, etc... not long ago we didn't have any of these modern facilities in Colombo...now everything is available and the new generation born into this is just being affected mentally!... can already see the attitude by the nasty comments made by rude, arrogant, lazy, jealous idiots commenting behind fake names and fake profile pics so their parents can't see what they are really up to!.. it's a shame as Ceylon always had a reputation for being friendly, hospitable, respectable, respectful, trustworthy... but a lot of the new generation are destroying what reputation our parents and grandparents built up...yes there are some very good new generation like Wonderboy Jeremy but you can see the hate comments he is getting by other Lankans his age who are cowards and throwing vitriolic comments in disguise!... I've caught a few out and gave them a few good words back that would be burning in their ears as I don't give in to these arse holes who have nothing better to do but pull innocent people down... they can't just enjoy something and give praise or encouragement and yet they neither can get off their arses and do better!... total failures of life!... Dale sorry for my rant with expletives! đ ... but as always huge thumbs up!... still got a lot of Sri Lankan videos to catch up on but slow due to bad broadband at home and my Samsung needs to be replaced!!!... I will watch Jeremy 's SL videos too.... so many are following that Harald but I'm not sure whether to follow him too!... bit crude for my liking! đ

This is about 400yards from where I grew up though it looks a bit different now! Have walked that beach many times and also the main road, some of the places I knew still exist. Best chocolate cake ever from Green Cabin not far away, and if you want to get something special as a gift Barefoot is really close. The whole of Colombo is growing and changing very fast, sad really because it was quite a beautiful city, the hectic pace is very wearing now.
I 'm a local and i had bad experiences with tuk tuk drivers. So i 'm used to my personal transportation method now . So for tourists i think it's great if government of Sri Lanka introduce a personal transportation method which tourists can select for their own personal choice.

Must agree, we stayed at the Marino in June. Great staff, and a great hi-tea for not much. And better still the kids had Taco Bell down the road. Great place.
I'll definitely be staying there again. Will be the perfect spot in Colombo once the construction opposite is complete.

Hi Dale. I am coming to Sri Lanka from UK and I've heard that Visa is free. So is it simple as once you land they will give you 30days free visa? Or do I have to do anything. Thanks.
Go to visa on arrival counter first, get visa for free, then go to immigration and get stamped in.

Does this work for other countries as well? Iâm coming from Canada. I heard about the free visa on the news, but when I checked the SLâs visa site there was still a fee.
