My theory is that it's probability based. Per pulse you get "your energy regen - 100"% chance to generate energy or something like that. I have Skyward Spine as well and around 70-80% energy regeneration and I do seem to be able to keep up his 40 energy ult consistently.

Finally, there is someone who I agree with, since, as he explained, Zhonghli is supposed to be a support unit while so many players misjudged him for being a DPS unit.
nobody even says hes a dps anymore, hes even a shit support. He can't even generate particles. Just look at almost all other supports, mona, xq, bennet, venti, fischl. way better than zhongli
And the Trailers of him all showed him as dps saying shit like "massive dmg" and showing him solo enemies. They never showed him supporting other units. Mainly because he cant. The only thing he does is give you a shield thats completely useless in the lategame.
I fucking hate it when people say he is a support when he was clearly advertised as dps.

Except the problem is that everything he can do *as a support* can be done better by someone else.
Shielding? Diona does that while also providing Cryo, doing more damage, and taking less time to apply the shield. Similar shield HP too. Xinyan also provides a shield that deals damage while it's active *and* cleanses statuses.
Being a battery? Zhongli barely provides energy, and it's extremely inconsistent, so he's not good in that regard. If you want a Geo battery for Ningguang, run Geo MC, they provide more energy
Burst/Sub DPS? Ningguang does more damage with just her bursts than Zhongli does. Bennet's burst damage is good *and* provides buffs and healing. Xiangling does more damage with her burst and can do Pyro procs.
The only actually unique thing that Zhongli provides is Petrify, which is super short and less useful than Freeze. I love Zhongli, but he is *not* as good as this video claims he is. He is outclassed in every field by 4-star supports.
Dionas shield is less than half as effective as Zhongli shield and her DMG is not even close. Xiangling burst is weaker than Zhongli, dude you're talking shit
@@XX-qj9sj Diona is also Cryo which brings in more utility than Geo, potential CC and Superconduct etc, alongside some heal and attack boost, making her actually a better support than Zhongli when there is no constellation involves (I dk since I dont have C6 Diona or C6 Zhongli).
XL isnt that great I agree, since Zhong Li doesn't work on his own but so is XL, and the only good thing is that she's Pyro and thats about it.

His constellations seem good but honestly he is perfectly good without them, his c1 just gives him another pillar, not really that great. His c2 only matters when you are in co-op and when the hell are you gonna have trouble in co-op? His c4 increased Q range (not needed at all) and increases his petrify duration which is pointless because you only use petrify to tank enemy hits and create distance and you can increases his duration just by talent level up.
Finally his c6, although some people will look at its effect and say that itâs op, they donât look at the scaling. The characters can only be healed by a cap of 8% of their max HP (not zhongliâs) that is really small. Especially when youâre not even supposed to run him as a healer, itâs just an icing on top for the memes. If I have my Childe at 20k HP then he would only be healed by a maximum of 1.6k which is amateur numbers.

It isn't just for co op it literally gives him a shield anytime he burst in addition to giving the party a shield which in turn makes his C6 ridiculous. C0 to C2 is literally night and day and it gets worse once you get to C6
@@OrichalkosTV yeah, his constellations are good but at the same time, you wonât need them if you manage him properly- just like Childe, his c1 and c6 really help his cooldown issues but if you manage his rotation with other units properly, you donât need them. Iâm not saying that his constellations are useless- they shouldnât be because people are spending almost 1k for it but at the same time, they donât completely change his game style but help manage it properly. Also- technically my brother has him, and I donât but I think that it still counts.

When MiHoYo sees that the player base only wants DPS characters, don't be surprised when consecutive 5 star releases start ramping up the damage output and content scaling up to match.

@Shio That's not helpful. Abyss is meant to be cleared fast, not with slow, methodical, safe playstyles. The guy also uses a C1 Zhongli which is well impossible as a F2P or even someone who spends a little. Current Zhongli absolutely cannot become broken with any team composition, at best he's usable like an average 4*.

Also, C1 doubles the damage because Traveler's construct causes no damage, which means it would be twice as slow with a C0 Zhongli.
check out asian guy genshin's new video the dude used just a flower artifact on zhongli and still managed to win spiral abyss along with diluc who has shit artifacts and weapon aswell, in summary the video is just showcasing how underrated shields are and how useful his ult is
@@scotttempest8857 defense is inherently meant to make battles last longer. Spiral abyss is entirely built on completing levels quickly with high dmg. zhong is a defensive character who has no dmg multiplier with other elements and only gets better when used with another defensive (geo) character. any other team composition without zhong would be able to do more damage purely because of elemental reactions.
also, any zhongli showcase is automatically null because of the current abyss geo buff.

Ningguang, Noelle, Zhongli, and Fischl make an amazing team! Ningguang's shield synergizes well with Zhonglies pillar, you got Oz zapping enemies and getting you more crystalizing, Spamming Zhongli's ult for fat damage, and Noelle for that deadly healing. Not to mention Zhongli can walk through Ningguang's shield and get EVEN MORE ult damage from that geo buff.
I was actually bummed when I rolled him because I was trying to save my pity roll (I was a ways off to so I guess I got lucky? just not the way I wanted)

Build him up with lots of crit damage the guy attacks quite frequently so your opportunity for criting is good. Usually people say have at least 50% crit rate, but imo you can get by with 30%, and at least 150%crit damage.
He may not be the best dps, but you can use him as a cool crowd control. If you want to use his normal and charged attacks then you can do something like this:

The issue is not that he is bad, it is that his CONSTELLATIONS make him decent. Which is VERY BAD for a 5 star character.
A 5 star should be a decent unit at the very start, not require C1 to be useful.
1. Elemental particles are totally at random
2. Geo has ZERO elemental interactions, and Petrify does not cause burst on hit like in the beta.
3. His dash attack hits once despite being multiple spears (basically it is just Xiangling's dash attack)
4. His shield is BAD outside of C6. Even if you try to keep it up, it does not heal nor does it generate particles. Making it genuinely worse than C1 Noelle, a unit you are guarenteed to at least have at C0.
5. You need C1 for his pillars to be useful if you do not have Ningguang or Geo Traveler (granted, not that bad).
We are not saying he is a bad unit. We are saying that he is not worth $40-$360 (based on pity rolls) at C0.

What i was able to notice is that the energy is dependent on the amount of enemies inside the aoe. The more people the faster the energy.

CZcamsr's are not the be-all end-all of Genshin or anything for that matter and some people give them wayyy too much credence.

He can be on par with razor and xiangling phys dps if you really force it and run crescent pike. Tectone's right though, he's much more suited to just dropping bombs every 12 seconds and providing the best shield in the game.

@@GunarBastos I never looked at the initial multipliers since I always intended him to be a support for my Ning. They removed the "20% increased phys and geo dmg taken by petrified enemies" and nerfed the hell out of the petrify duration but they did increase the hp scaling of it from 20% to 33%.

Constellations just give him a "little bit" of healing and utility. Constellations: C2:Ult gives him another Jade shield(No downtime on E shield), C4: 20%AOE and +2s of Petrification to Q (Base duration 3.1s), C6: Gives Jade Shield Healing(40% incoming damage) Basically removes need for a healer and changes his role of solely shielding and CC to that and healer.
C6 Zhongli is not just "a little bit better", so much of his power is locked behind constellations. And alot of resources need to be used to make him an ok 5-Star compared to the rest.
Up until Venti, 5 Stars Constellations did not change their overall identity and insanely stronger than C0, since Klee, Childe and now Zhongli, more and more power is being locked behind Constellations(Paywall). All I want is for them to make him a character with 5 Star Power at C0 and isn't overshined by Free 4Stars, whether a 5Star Support or DPS, either is fine. Just make him a proper 5 Star. #JusticeforZhongli

I can't believe people are telling themselves that Tectone knows what it's like to play with a f2p budget. He has no clue what it's like to play with only one maybe two 5* characters (if standard banner didn't give you a weapon) and with 4* weapons because, let's be honest, nobody wants to pull on weapon banner, really.
Klee and Childe can be really good with good play, Klee with mechanics and Childe with timing, but Zhongli.... Zhongli is a different breed of wtf is this shit.
My main issue with him is that part of his kit is locked behind c1 .. it sets a bad tone for future 5 stars

Did they nerf his phys dps? The one that I noticed was gone is that he used to be able to make geo constructs explode with hold E and his petrify used to increase phys and geo damage taken.

The meta for this game is damage. Every late game activity is on a timer and you need to do as much damage as possible. If we ever get some survival mode, Zhongli would be one of the best units. But as of now, his kit does not increase your main carry's DPS, and he doesn't have better DPS than even some 4 stars. He is a great tank, but tanking doesn't do much when you have 3 minutes to beat Spiral Abyss 12 for the 3 star score.
You mentioned he can generate energy from the pulses on his E. There have been people who tested the consistency of this and it's pretty much RNG. Sometimes you get 3 energy in a row and other times it will pulse 4 for five times and hit enemies but no energy appears.
Totally agree that he is a great tank and the petrify is great CC. But pulsing pillars is a marginal increase in DPS and this game's meta right now is all about Burst damage and Damage Per Second. His unique role does not fit the meta and until we get a endurance run mode, he'll be considered the worst 5 star in the game.

Proven and tested. I was hunting for a petra set but my entire coop party kept dying then I suggested the host to use his Zhongli. He was skeptical at first coz he doesn't have good artifacts yet and he's underlevelled. Long story short we eased our way through that domain without someone dying. That Petrification was really useful. I now think that maybe Zhongli's role was to baby sit the entire party. He's like a general, he doesn't need to be the one dealing huge damage he just have to coach the team on what to do and provide support if needed.

This is a reward for hyper whales. Zhongli is only good for whales with the resources and time to fully build 8 characters with level 20 artifacts and level 6-8 skills. He makes it really easy for them, but for free to play or cheap to play players, he's not very good

But once you give it another Construct, it Resonates for twice that.
So with, say, Geo Traveler, you can Resonate, and then - for me - give Childe infinite Shields that boost his Attack by 15%.
When zhongli is off the field, you lose a lot. You lose more than with any other unit imo... you lose option to watch his attack animations with a polearm.

Zhongli is not a massively bad character, but he is by far the worst 5 Star.
So first off his auto attack is about Xianling level, which is kinda disappointing for a 5 star unit, but understandable since his abilities should make him a support type character, right?
Not really. His E is absolute dogshit. It does very little damage, which makes it's synergy with other Geo constructs also really bad, the energy generation is complete RNG and you often end up getting no energy for multiple instances of damage and the LOS block is very niche and not that efficient, since the pillar is very thin and Ningguang and Geo MC do the same, but way better.
The Shield on his E is also not very strong. With 20000 hp, which is about the number you can expect with a fully upgraded 5 Star Flower and a Lv 90 Zhongli, you only get around 5500 Shield Hp. That is almost nothing. Tankiness is his best attribute, but only he himself is tanky. He doesn't provide much of it to his teammates. On top of that even when you hold E for the shield, you don't get guaranteed energy particles and it has a really long cooldown.
Lastly his ult is probably the best thing about him, but it doesn't carry the rest of his kit enough. It does some decent damage on large groups of enemies, but Ningguang is the better burst support so that's not the best selling point here. The kicker is the petrification and what does petrifying your enemies do? It stuns them for 3-4 seconds. That's it. That is all there is to it. No buff/debuff like in the beta, which made him a really nice supporter for Geo comps, no nothing. They can't deal damage for 3-4 seconds with 1 second already used to finish his animation. Venti also makes enemies unable to attack, but for way longer and with a huge CC effect on top and he can fuel his own ult, while Zhongli needs some sort of battery comp build around him, because his E doesn't generate nearly enough emergy particles.
And i know that Venti was an accident in Mihoyos part and they don't want to powercreep their game very fast, but Venti is the Anemo Archon. He is basically a god and Zhongli is the Geo archon, canonically the strongest of all archons so it would make sense to make him about as strong as Venti. They don't need to make him stronger or even exactly as strong, but around Venti's powerlevel would make sense for Zhongli.
And even if they don't want that, at least make him good at what he does. Give him back the Geo buff on his ult and buff his E. It's bad regardless if you hold or just press it. That's not much to ask, given how powerful most 5 stars and a whole lot of 4 stars are.

xiangling is the 2nd best dps 4 star behind razor, and zhongli has almost identical scaling on his normal attacks, but has a ult that hits for 1k% dmg that stuns for 3 seconds that is also up every 12 seconds lmfao, not to mention he has an insane shield. people really just complain about nothing it's insane LOL

Xiangling is a 4 star hero. Jean is a better DPS, if you build her that way and she is a support.
1000% damage is only at level 12 for his ult and that requires so much investment and tons of resources.
Lastly his shield couldn't be further away from amazing. 5500 HP is 1-2 hits at max and it doesn't even generate energy reliably.
Tectone is a whale so of course he thinks Zhongli is strong, because every character in the game can be really strong with enough investment.
For the average person however it's not worth pulling for him, since he requires the most investment out of all 5 stars to get some value out of him.

Bruh please!!! I just want to bring Ningguang to the endgame and feel confident about it. A geo synergy 5 star support was all I wanted and the synergy just isn't there. Geo Venti would still be less OP than actual Venti, they could've done so much better with his kit.

Tectone, we're not mad at the fact that he doesn't do insane physical damage, and we know he's an excellent support. We're mad at the fact that this God kicks his spear, has the smoothest auto attacks, a silky charged attack, and literally flow better than Childe, yet we can't enjoy this because he's built as a support most of the time.

My only big complaint about zhongli is that his skillâs energy generation is rng. Itâs completely inconsistent. If it just generated every wave like fischl it would be fine, but it doesnât. That seems like a bug.

@@juanpaolodeguzman6219 If I could pick other buffs besides fixing his energy regen issue, it would be for his resonance pulses to do more damage to elemental shields or for his hold skill's shield shred to work on elemental shields too instead of just geo. That would allow geo teams to at least kinda fight fatui and abyss mages without having to bring lots of elemental counters. He feels like he was originally built to support other geo characters, but most of that functionality got cut and he's kind of a general support now.
That and even as the role he is meant to fulfill, I think his normal attack values could be slightly higher. Emphasis on slightly.

I think people are upset because they are in love with his design and they want to use him more on the field, rather than use him as an ult bot. I personally think Zhongli is super strong, but I do agree that he is too cool to be used as an ult bot :/
remember this guys. ningguang is also geo support but can out dps any 5* character in the game. if u gonna say she's a dps, remember she deploys jade screen to block projectiles and drop shield fragments that can withstand a portion of incoming dmg and increases attack from that particular element at the same time. with the use of only prototype malice, she can stand alone even w/o the geo resonance. unlike zhongli, he's doable if he's c6 for both dps or support. but what for c0? instant support role and cannot be a dps. with the crescent pike and prototype grudge only available for him to be a dps/support as a f2p, the dps role is out of his league. on the trailer from miyoho, he was a dps equipped with the vortex vanquisher (and the effects of the weapon only applies to him alone and saying it *increases enormous damge* from the trailer). now if u think of this, if he's a support, where are the other characters he's supposed to be supporting with from the trailer? solo right? unlike venti's trailer, there are other characters around him and synergize with any element, meaning he's a support. zhonglis trailer is misleading tbh. now, support characters such as barbara, sucrose, xingqiu, bennett, and noelle, can be a better dps or support than zhongli even with c0. because of this, zhongli's potential is lock behind constellations and u cannot deny this. for f2p players, he's stuck on the support role from early to late game. i really hate to compare them and i do like zhongli but it really hurts. like 4* characters are better than zhongli currently even u build him right. if u guys gonna ask if i have zhongli, the answer is yes and he's lv80 c0.
My only complain about Zhongli is how energy recharge works with his E ability. It only grant 1 particle per pulse, no matter how many geo construct on the field, and is not guaranteed. Besides, holding E gives NO energy at all. In the worst case, you could wait up to 8 seconds to get ONE particle.

The video you referred to is very misleading. Most of these theory based analysis often don't capture the full picture of reality (tons of researchers like that in the research community). When they say Zhong Li sucks they are talking in the perspective of people who is F2P and want to beat Floor 12 and DONT have units, they are just saying "if you DONT ALREADY have the units for beating floor 12 then Zhong Li SUCKS" and they are right, if you dont have your pyro dmg dealers then dont pull on zhong.

I really love zhongli, i don't think he's that bad as a character, he has a great ulti and a good shield. BUT there are some factors that make him not worth it for F2P that's why he is considered bad, i get it that you have infinite amount of resources, but f2p have to really think about the best choice and a character who has % atk hits lower than Xiangling, a def good ulti that other than a good dmg and 4s freeze doesn't give anything else(if they kept at least his 2ndary eff that would've been MUCH better), his shield is good but his single pillar is not that good(you need a supp). When you think about Zhongli you can see a beautiful character that needs A LOT of resources to work properly: Really good and specific artifacts, C1 at least, 5* spear.
Whereas other characters don't need this much resources to FEEL strong and do thei job good enough. He just feels like a 4*, and there are 4* that work BETTER than him in a team, considering elemental reaction and stuff
imo Zhongli doesn't need C1. I'm running a support burst Zhongli and although his artifacts are sht, his shield is strong and so is his ult. And he's running a 4* spear (favonious lance). Though, to build him as a dps, I definitely agree that it would take a LOT to make him do okay dmg
Yeah, Zhongli is not the best choice for every F2P players, but it also depends on each person's situation. For some people like me though, we already built 2 main DPS characters prior to Zhongli and don't really want any more main DPS characters. So Zhongli is a good pull in this case.
Me use Xiangling and Fischl main dps using their 1st skill only, while Zhongli is on field tank dmg with C6 Barbara. (Combo them đ đŒđŠ )

he needs 1 buff out of the 2 to make him a 5 stars limited character:
-Petrified enemies will resonate with the pillar/s
or
-When under shield created through crystalize his normal attacks and charged attacks will deal Geo dmg
I prefer if his Hold E dealt more dmg to Petrified enemies(it does, but not as much as I wished) or his pillars could buff allies in the resonance.
So convert him to a damage dealer which he is not
a damage dealer, which the endgame values so much more than a shield utility character
Both will break the game
Xingqiu's burst can lower hydro res by 15/20% (I forgot which one lol) so i don't know why they removed the geo/phys resistance debuff of his burst xD He will be 5 star support with that and his shield.

@@CampaignerSC His biggest power spike is c1, and even that isn't necessary if you pair him with geo mc since you can only have three geo contructs up at a time anyway. His constellations are okay but they definitely don't really make a huge difference like they do on some 5 stars.

with his e he can't generate elemental particales consistently, the particles are random generated so if u are unlucky u don't get a particles for like 10 sec straight. His E does very very low dmg. His shield can't tank more than 1 hit on abyss floor 12. He can't break fatui shields. He can't add dmg with elemental reactions. Being Tank is useless in abyss, even if u can't die if u can't kill enemies fast enough u fail. If u compare this to Mona or any other 5 star support character he is just the worst. Change my mind.

And bennet, how many of you use bennet at the beginning, so is xing qiu. And venti, how many of you give venti dps set at the beginning, expecting venti will kill all the enemies with his super big tornado. Now can you compare venti with mona or xingqiu or bennet? No, same support role but different utility.

@@kombuchas4684 Check AsianGuyGenshin's Zhongli video out, he ran level 12 spiral abyss with 0 artifacts zhongli and very underleveled artifacts for all other units and he cleared it with ease. Despite him having c4 zhongli during that video, his constellation does not provide a huge damage buff or any crazy buffs, just extra utility.

They did a pretty comprehensive test and found no way to consistently generate energy. They tried everything from:
-Just the Stone Stelle while it damages enemies
-Standing withun the Stone Stelle pulse radius as it damages enemies
-Using the shield function
-Having a shield while inside the Stone Stelle's pulse radius as it damages enemies
-Creating Crystallize reactions while the Stone Stelle damages enemies
-Having a shield while creating Crystallize reactions while the Stone Stelle damages enemies
-Having a shield while creating Crystallize reactions while standing within the Stone Stelle as it damages enemies
-Having 1 extra Geo Construct with a Stone Stelle
-Having 2 extra Geo Constructs with a Stone Stelle
Results? RNG. They would literally have periods where no orbs would come out, then randomly get a few orbs here and there. Or sometimes it would be a chain and then absolutely nothing under the same exact conditions.
