... Excellent, "Teaching". You didn't rush. You didn't go too fast and cover the button to be pushed with you finger. The pause and added arrows will give the viewer, the one wanting to learn, a chance to see clearly what you are about to do.
So many videos, including from some major company, "experts", 😉 go too fast. Yes, they may actually be experts on the subject they are explaining but they are not experts on creating an educational video.
I do not have Garmin but NOW I do understand the difference between Heading up and Course up.
I use North up when fishing on the trolling motor or on AnchorLock and Heading up when running any distance to another area. One more thing, I just added a Point 1 antenna on the transom near my transducer.
My confusion came when using the Heading Up and Course Up extensions (w/o going to a way point) the extensions were always pointing the same direction, one on top of the other.
In short, great teaching video!!!!!!! 👍👍

I only use heading up because radar is always and only heading up as well. Most if not all ny charter captains use north up. That's fine for them but you have to do a mental calculation as your radar targets direction and your boats direction must be figured out to avoid collisions. Gps and radar on heading up it's instantly obvious what's going on.

Great explanation of what the 3 orientation mean. I don't have a radar so North up works most of the time for me. I can see where course up would be useful when travelling to a waypoint. Thanks for the video. You were photo bombed by a dolphin at the end.

Awesome and simple explanation. Now someone take this one step further: We might be installing our own Garmin GPS. So the Nav Station could be on the Port Wall, towards Aft or even a bit cockeyed. The Radar Device might not be pointed straight ahead either. How does it know which way our Bow is?
How do we calibrate it to point precisely to the bow of our boat?

How about the days, no GPS, no loran, no auto pilot, no radar? Head SE at a set speed and course and watch for flying fish, weed and color change and 4 hours you should be in the stream. Going home was the problem not exactly knowing how far you trolled all day long. It was a hit and missing going home. Dead reckoning. You had RDF but we never used them. Fishing was so much better in those days. No EPIRBS either

Although I believe you expect an answer from GFT, I'll try it for you. North Up is used, mainly, when you'd want to know your position and movement relative to a land mark. Course Up, when you go from one way point to another and you want to know how you drift from your course. Head Up for navigating in traffic and you want to know how other boats move relative to you. Hope it helps.
