    One of the better reviews I have seen for the PS VR2. I think the PS VR2 controllers are better than any other I have tried. Not just because of the amazing haptics and resistive triggers. I think they are the most comfortable to hold / use with no after-market accessory needed to improve the controller handle (like Quest 2 controllers which are too short). They also have great button placement and quality thumbsticks, and I greatly prefer the grip buttons on the VR2 Sense controllers over the quest. I never liked the Quest 2 controllers loud clacking grip buttons and the awkward way you have to hold the controller to avoid pressing button unintentionally. So much, that most of the games I play on Quest 2, don't register / use those grip buttons (or expect that you mostly have them pressed).
    The battery life of the VR2 Sense controllers is short, but I have charging station that I put them on when not playing, and I don't play any VR game (other than GT7 with racing wheel) longer than 2-3 hours, so it has not been a problem for me.

    I truly believe people's expectations aren't realistic when it comes to vr. I started with psvr1, quest, quest-pc, reverb-pc then psvr2. The psvr2 is by far the most used headset I have had, of course it's not perfect but what is in the niche market? As for the price...well we are all getting fucked over for everything these days, I don't for one second think sony is ever going to be the first that is going to give us all a break. If I had to keep only one of my psvr2 or pc set up then it's the psvr2 hands down.

I've watched all the videos and read all the guides on how to "properly" put on the PSVR2 but for some reason (maybe shape of my head) it is so uncomfortable for me. I wish there was more padding in the front. I owned/loved the PSVR 1 and could use it for hours without issue.

    thats the best demonstration of mura i have seen. Pretty much nails the visuals of it. I think the PS5 still could use a bit more horsepower, althought foveated helps a lot for sure - if many devs would not ignore it (propably because their engine needs recoding for that feature). About the brightness: Many also get headeaches or aching eyes at 100%. Usually they drop down between 50-75% - which looks still fine. Not a good decision to set it to 100% by default - especially for the eyetracking setup with the pure white background. Some kids i know simply closed their eyes there, because it was to painful for them to look at.

Although I have a Quest 2, I'm really looking forward to the Quest 3's lighter design, higher resolution, and better controllers with cameras on them (hopefully). I mostly play PCVR, but the those new Pancake lenses theoretically should make the image quality better, since you won't have to render above the native resolution to compensate for distortion, like you need to on Quest 2 Fresnel lenses.

I could see people running high-end PCVR games at 120Hz with 4060s and RX 7600s with no problems, that's a future I would like to see :)

    Sony should really do something about the graphics of the headset, it states 4K on the box which it isn't, it's more like 720p at best, for the price of over $900 Australian it definetly need a graphics upgrade big time. As he mentions at 2.45, it's definetly misleading.

    • @Maraksot78
      @Maraksot78 Před 10 měsíci

      The headset is capable of displaying high resolution graphics, the problem is the PS5 isn't powerful enough to deliver them. 4K 30 to 60 fps on a TV is one thing, but 2000 X 2040 PER EYE, for a total of 4000 X 2040 (4K is 3840X2160), at 90 or 120fps; it just doesn't have the power to do that, so they have to down grade the resolution AND use reprojection to make it happen. The only game I've played so far on PSVR2 that lets you see how good games can look on it is Red Matter 2. I was blown away with how good it looks. Not to mention the devs were even able to get it to run at 120fps! It's very impressive, I just hope other game devs will learn from them and bring some much higher quality games to the PSVR2.

  • @theriddick
    @theriddick Před rokem +1

    Looks like SONY needs to go talk to LG. Mura can be fixed by calibrating pixel brightness individually so they all match (lowest common denominator sort of thing). The exact science/engineer method, ask LG.
    FSR3.0 will be a better solution then re-projection for many games, when and if it becomes a thing.
    There is also CAS sharpening that should be used to crisp up the image. UNFORTUNATELY consoles don't allow customization of graphics or modding of filters in games... such is console gaming.

    • @Maraksot78
      @Maraksot78 Před rokem +2

      Well that all really depends on the specs of your PC and the game you're playing.
      Depending on how powerful your PC is the PS5 will either be more or less powerful and deliver better or worse visuals than you can get on PC. As for me I have a RTX 3080ti and I can run most any VR game at 4704 x 2384 at, at least 90Hz, so games like Half Life Alyx and Lone Echo look much sharper and clearer on my Quest 2 via a Link cable or AirLink with my PC than a game like Horizon Call of the Mountain looks on the PS5 and PS VR2. If you have an RX 580, GTX 1060 or GTX 1650 or something however, then I think the PS5 is going to deliver better visuals than those cards can.
      On top of all that it's going to depend on each individual game as well. Games like Beat Saber can run at high detail settings and looks fantastic on much lower end hardware than a game like Lone Echo or Half Life Alyx, so for games that aren't as visually detailed as Call of the Mountain they'll run great on the PS5/PS VR2 and look great as well.

      I'm excited for the Quest 3 as well. Trying not to get my hopes up too much though. The Quest 2 has really impressed me from the beginning but I think that in part has to do with the fact it was $299 when I bought mine and with other headsets being upward of $1000 my expectations weren't super high. Needless to say the Quest 2 exceeded my expectations so now my hopes for the Quest 3 might be a little higher than they probably should be. 😅 I'm hoping for higher resolution, larger FOV and of course more stand alone power. Eye tracking would be cool but I think Meta has already said it won't have eye tracking. I'm looking forward to trying out some pancake lenses though. I haven't used a headset that has them yet.

    As coming from a psvr 1 to be honest the showcase psvr2 games look good and I know there’s the haptics and clear screen resolution and better controllers but when I compare the best psvr1 games like rush of blood, astrobot, blood and truth , Moss , Batman , wipeout omega, xing land beyond etc I don’t really see that much of a graphical upgrade to the other games the psvr2 has on offer other than the handful of showcase games that it has at the moment . Then there’s the fact it’s still tethered , no backwards psvr1 compatibility and the field of view is only slightly bigger (which is a thing that bugged my on the psvr1) and then there’s the reprojection and mura effects and small sweet spot . Not really worth the 1k (inc the ps5) to buy right now but better to wait and see what new titles come out and possibly buy a used one in a year or two. There’s also the quest 3 and index 2 coming so let’s see what they have to offer . Cheers

    Headset sweet spot finding issues are eliminated once you buy headstrap with weights on the back. Mura can be fixed mostly with green tinted lense inserts. The blurryness is caused mostly by games not using foveated rendering, or using reprojection. (Hardware can run it games withiut repro, its the sacrifice developers made to get thier games out quickly, faster than optimizing that was needed, but the software is where the issue was). Coming from a purely ps5 console vr gamer, don't own a pc, the only issue with psvr2 I have found is: requirement to buy post market headstrap for it to be comfortable especially if your eyes are close together. And the lack of battery life in the controllers. 3 to 4 hours charge is not enough for an actual gamer, and right now we can't buy another pair, you were 100% on that. I don't own one since I don't have a PS5 but a friend does so I spent quite a lot of time with it and I think the hardware is amazing, Sony hasn't made hardware this good in way over a decade imo, even though Sony used to be king of amazing well designed hardware 30-20 years ago.
    The biggest flaw for ME is that you can't use it with a PC lol, I'm not a console gamer anymore, the PS3 was my last console in 2007 and I'm not going back ever again because I love PC, is it my platform and it is superior to anything else imo and I will die on this hill, I would rather buy an expensive GPU than a PS5 any day of the week.
    Sony used to make hardware for PCs and laptops back in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s but they stopped after the PS2, the PSVR2 shows that they still got it, I really wish they would go back to just being a great hardware manufacturer and not just being obsessed with PlayStation and exclusives and making that their bread and butter and biggest revenue stream, they used to be as big or even bigger as Samsung, LG etc and look at 'em now, the PSVR2 could've been their chance to go back to that and sell millions in hardware because the PSVR2 is that good and imo is the best most affordable headset in the market right now, put more exclusive PS5 games on PC including VR ones, heck make your own store if you want to! and make bank but nah, gotta keep milking the PlayStation cow and leaving money on the table and everyone else out. In fact I'm itching to get a RTX 4090, gotta save up for a bit though. 😂 I really wish there was a way to use the PS VR2 with a PC because I'd like to actually use the headsets full capabilities. 2000 X 2040 pixels per eye at 120 or even 90Hz on those OLED screens would be pretty epic... minus the mura of course. Who knows, maybe some modders will figure out a way to get the PS VR2 to work with a PC. I have to imagine it's possible, you'd just need the right software application on your PC to make it work I assume.

      @@Maraksot78 Oh yeah definitely agree PC is certainly not plug-and-play and headache-free, that's a huge advantage that consoles and the PSVR2 has but I think PC will get there at some point with the obvious benefit of still having the power to thinker and modify things as you see fit to improve the experience if you want. 😅I'm saving for a 4090 too, the 4090 is just leagues ahead of everything else in VR that even a 4080 pales in comparison, I just wish it wasn't so expensive y'know, we're getting close to a point where we might need to take loans just to buy GPUs 🤣
      I'd would really love to see what the PSVR2 is capable on powerful hardware, I think not even the 4090 could deliver enough performance for the full PSVR2 4000x2040@120Hz resolution but perhaps at 90Hz and with eye-tracked foveated rendering we could get there! or maybe with the 5000 series, is exciting to think about it, too bad Sony won't do it.. I bet they locked down the hardware big time to make it as hard as possible to hack and make it work on PC but like you said maybe some crazy fella out there might do it someday but I doubt the results will be perfect and by the time someone manages it the Quest 3 will be out. I just hope Meta can fix the mura as much as possible and implement eye-tracking and foveated rendering on PC, there's no way I will use a headset without that in the future!

    1. Sony are seeing this as an accessory, And as such need to make profit on every piece of hardware so the venture is not a gamble. Its not like the a console where it can be sold cheaply to recoup profit later on with software. Same with PC heqdsets. Those manufacturers need immediate profit. Meta on the other hand are selling at little to no profit, and will get the money back on software.
    2. There are 3 types of VR. Wireless, standalone and wired. All have their drawback.
    Wireless has latency and picture quality issues.
    Standalone is underpowered, and wired is obviously annoying. Personally Id chose the cable, but it would be nice if we had the choice of wireless or wired.
    Theres no such thing as a perfect headset yet, but PSVR2 is easily the best, even when compared to Quest3

    I've been saying for as long as the PSVR2 specs were announced, that (given my experience with a Reverb G2 and a 6600XT), that the PS5 was simply not powerful enough to run the PSVR2 as it was designed. So it really comes at no surprise to find that the games are often running at lower resolutions, in reprojection mode, and with rather aggressive foveated rendering on top. On the plus side, there's quite a bit of headroom for visual improvements should Sony make a mid-gen refresh console like the PS4Pro. On the downside, if you're already invested into PSVR2, you're gonna have to buy a whole new console.

      Most of my gripes with the PS VR2 are actually pretty minor and for people that haven't experienced high resolution/high refresh rate PC VR they won't know any different so the reprojection and slight blurriness from the lower than native render resolution probably won't be an issue for them as they won't know any different. If this was a PC VR headset, my biggest complaints would be the mura, which actually doesn't bother me that much, and the frame persistence issue. You can fix the frame persistence by lowering the headset brightness but I didn't talk about that in this video because my previous video was dedicated to that issue. Overall, I really do think the PS VR2 is a good VR headset. I had a lot of fun with it and compared to stand alone Quest 2 games, the graphics are WAAAAAYYYY better. It's just me coming from PC VR, based on it's specs, it's clear to me the headset is capable of much more than the PS5 hardware can deliver. At $550 I think this headset would be a banger if it was compatible with PC.

    This is what I understand, honestly and frankly, without cuts and in fact. These Fresnel lenses with a really small sweetspot, plus you feel that the picture is not clear enough, it does not render at full strength. This helmet needs a more powerful console, namely the Ps5 Pro. It is interesting to know how Pico 4 is visually sharper? And Re Village, you don't feel well after it. What is this accessory that makes you uncomfortable? You pay money for a good impression, not for a good impression and feeling bad and not being clear enough.
    I tried to play flat games in this helmet and due to the fact that the clarity is only in the center and it is not the same as if I look at my TV with my eyes, then I look to the side and I'm a mess, God ... How can I enjoy this , and the money they ask is not small. I hope that the Chinese will figure out how to replace these lenses with better ones.

    What was the last video you made where you front loaded the video with exaggerated bad news? I haven’t had or heard of nearly any actual cases of real nausea with PSVR2.
    Why not just say you’re biased and prefer facebook mobile VR where sub-90fps games had been the standard until recently and/or PCVR where the actual high end games are few and far between as the current standard is Quest quality for all of VR…
    Basically the Quest standard, the clearest Switch grade graphics, has become the all around for standard virtually all VR game development, but Mura is your problem?
    PSVR2 does an exceptional job of splitting the difference between Quest and PCVR in most respects and outperforms both in some ways particularly for people with modest PC builds. (most gaming PC owners.)
    PSVR2, like PCVR is just currently hog tied to the Quest standard for most of the games released on it. The pop-in you spoke of in Horizon is an error that has had various iterations throughout gaming history. While pop-in is notable it really shouldn’t prominent enough throughout the game be viewed as a game demerit this many years later with the alternate standard being like Gorilla Tag.
    I’ll take 20 Horizon games, warts and all, over the bare minimum Gorilla Tag/Boneworks standard that’s deemed oh so appealing by many PCVR/Quest enthusiasts constantly hurling passive aggressive criticism at PSVR2.
    I suspect most of the audience feels the same way, which is why VR hasn’t taken off.
    I can only hope that the next PlayStation CEO unties that hands of enough developers to port copious numbers of games from their illustrious back catalogue of flat games to PSVR2. (Infamous, Resistance, Motorstorm etc.)
    When Wipeout took about a month to port for less than 3 devs and Borderlands 2 took a little over a month to port for about 3 devs for PSVR1 it’s clear PSVR2 has an alternate path from what’s currently available exclusively and PSVR2 could have a substantially larger library of the highest caliber of games for gamers of any other option in under 2 years.

    PSVR 2 is inexpensive even compared to Quest 2. Quest 2 has a ton of hidden cost because it is imbalanced and underpadded; it has short battery life; it has bad audio; it is super eye glasses unfriendly, ... People end up spending a ton of money upgrading Quest 2 to make it work. AND yet it is using outdated technology. Whoever says PSVR 2 is overpriced really do understand the new VR technology in PSVR 2. And Sony wasn't sure whether it is able to make 2 million headset this year. That's why it was restricting its supply in the US until very recently. What poor decision has Sony made? The problem is not PSVR 2 but PS5. There are not too many PS5 around because of the pandemic. PS5 sales jumped very recently because of its improvement in production. AND PS5 is really not powerful enough to run the full power of PSVR 2. Just look at GT7. Its graphics is much downgraded. You need a PS6 to run GT7 on PSVR 2. Whoever says Sony is making poor decisions really doesn't understand all the problems behind PSVR 2.
