    i am very interested in what suspension you are running on that 390 ??? i am currently riding a Husky 901 with full Tractive suspension which totally transformed this already good bike to something magical ! it works soo darn good i feel like its cheating riding it so i hope i am capable of riding it for many years to come but i can see in the future i will need to swap to an even lighter bike and think this ktm 390adv will likely be my next bike , great info and you sound like i do when describing mine

      Hey, these are the stock WP Apex suspensions, upgraded with a longer cartridge for longer travel and better compression + rebound.
      Unfortunately back when I bought the bike, we didnt have the adjustable suspensions or spoked wheels here in India. If u get it with the adjustable ones, u won't have to worry about upgrading them. From my experience, they can take a nice beating without a flinch.
      A longer travel post the upgrade does help quite a bit though, the stock ones bottom out but u have to do some extreme enduro riding for that.
      Happy to dm you further details ✌🏻😁

      THANK YOU !!!! i have a Husky 901 now with Tractive Extreme suspension but have been looking at this bike for the lighter weight but i know the stock suspension would not work for me so doing some research on i now @@RoadhawkVlogs

      @justsomedude445 I am sure you will find better alternatives in your market bro. KTM just produces the bike here in India, no powerparts, no good service and bare minimum response to concerns. So we have found a couple of work arounds. Hope we have something better too but till that time the spacer + cartridge and valve upgrade helps a ton!

    Great video. Your descriptions of the pro's & con's are well done. So smart to point out that any new buyer should get time in the saddle before chasing accessories or upgrades. Know what you have, and how you'll ride before making changes. Glad you mentioned changing sprockets. The first new motorcycle I ever bought was a 1973 Yamaha DT3 Enduro, 250cc. It came stock with a 14 tooth front sprocket, but soon I always carried a 13 & 16 tooth with extra lock washers so I could handle any terrain or highways that came my way. Learn to ride, then learn to play. And always have fun. Keep making your videos, they're well done and very informative for riders both new and seasoned. 👍 🏍

      Comments like yours make me wanna shoot and produce more! And honestly, thank you very much for that.
      CZcams journey has been very tough with random daily vloggers popping up everywhere stealing the show with nothing but cringe, BS and click baits. So thank you for keeping the engine running for your poor biking fella 😁🙏
      And there's another kind of BS now where people like to show accidents and rash riding without learning what the machine is supposed to do. Things like complaining about seat height on an Adv bike 😂 God bless these channels but I sincerely hope that this trend comes to an end.
      Again thank you for your ever so genuine review and for paying attention to the parts of the video which actually needed it. You the man! 🤘🏼

    Sir I’ve couple of questions for you.
    But before asking me let me give an idea of my current situation.
    I have a scram 411 and I’ve done Quite a bit of modifications to it and clocked roughly 15k in around 8monthish. The bike is butter smooth and has ample low end torque. To achieve these I’ve got a bigger sprocket in the front, red rooster exhaust , air filter, and a spark plug kit upgrade and to gutter lowers the buzz I’ve also installed rubber padding on the tanks underneath the seat and a set of grip puppies too.
    A major causal factor for all these mods were to get a higher because let’s be practical out of our most rides majority involves roads and long stretches of road, that’s where the motorcycle lagged. Before all these the bike would run 100-110 with breeze. But now I’ve only gained around 10kph vibration free cruise on highways. I’m not going to add anything about the off road characteristics of the bike, because it’s a derivative of Himalayan so yah it’s pretty capable.
    I’m planning to purchase the 390 spoked wheel variant.
    Now coming to the questions.
    1. How are the vibrations? Are they unbearable?
    2. What is the comfortable cruising speed?
    3. How many kilometres can I expect on a full tank?
    4. Lastly , the most important question. I’m am quite concerned about the seat height, just around 5’9, so can I ride this vehicle? Im not considering the low seat height variant of 390 adv.
    Kindly respond back. Im asking all these before a test ride just to get a fair expectation from the motorcycle.

    • @RoadhawkVlogs
      @RoadhawkVlogs  Před rokem +3

      Hey bro, sure:
      1. There are slight vibrations and in some places may feel quite much like the footpeg. But it is all bearable. Good thing is that the engine ages extremely well. So as u keep servicing it will keep getting smoother and less viby by each service. Mine's pretty smooth now, not smoothest coz its still a single cylinder 😅 but nothing noticeable anymore.
      2. I tend to cruise at 120 to 130kmph and occasional pumps to wake my mind up. Below 120 it is super smooth. Bearable viby till 140 and well, noticeable viby till 170.
      3. That really depends on how humane a rider u r 😅 it can range from 20kmpl to 45kmpl.
      In city bumper to bumper traffic with repeated boom and brake, its around 20 to 22kmpl. Easy riding in same conditions would be 25 to 26kmpl. Cruising at 90kmph on highways, easily 40+kmpl. As u increase the speed, mileage drops slowly. 100kmph - 32 to 35kmpl; 120kmph - 25kmpl (this is what i get); 130kmph+ - less than ~22kmpl. Its very reasonable for the power it provides in the mid range of rpm. Just like a runway feel.
      4. If u have been off roading already then just don't bother about seat height. Eventually u will start counter balancing and it becomes a piece of cake. I am 5'8 and seat height on my bike is 875mm, never bothered me once. And you are right to ignore the lower seat height one, hard to understand the point of its existence 😅 Many short riders ride much bigger and taller bikes bro. All it needs is slowly adapting to counter balancing in different situations and getting used to it. It all becomes a subconscious decision thereafter.
      And if u r planning for ADV SW then you are gonna have a blast coz the suspensions on that baby, oh boy! And also on Low end, it isn't bad at all that many claim, I haven't made any changes for that like sprockets or fuel X etc and have done everything I wanna do with the bike. I ride her hard 😜
      Happy test riding bro! I think you will love it ✌🏻 but let me know how it goes and what u felt. Always good to share! 🙏

    Well for 2023 KtM has fitted spoke wheels and also the abs for off-road stays off once set. The suspension is also fully adjustable.
    So for anyone buying the bike now it’s truly a good bike definitely just go for one. I’m also leaning towards the 2023 model.

    • @RoadhawkVlogs
      @RoadhawkVlogs  Před rokem +3

      Thanks a lot man 🙏 makes my day to receive a good comment 🥲
      For anyone in India, we will never have those beautiful adjustable front suspensions, so gotta make do with this upgrade. Rear one is a must upgrade to Hero Xpulse though, for better rebound and compression, Endurance one from KTM is just bad.
      Also ABS stays off only, it was the MTC which always turns itself back on but thats a problem only for the older models. In newer ones, I have heard that in offroad mode, MTC stays off if you turn it off.
      Anyway go for it man because this is the best bike money can buy with all the good stuff. See I bought at Rs.50K lesser back in 2020, so by 2026 prices will increase even more, so get it asap 😂

      Front fender is from CRF 250. I got it from Asura Garage. Just type this name on google, call them up and they will hook u with one. Although do note, due to its structure, you would need to upgrade your suspensions to be higher. If not, it will kill the suspension travel, which isn't ideal for advs. Or u can try Hero xpulse fender which is 5 times cheaper and is good looking (not as good as this one but a good replacement without suspension upgrade).

      Its a gem bro. Specially if you don't add any accessories, its light weight, its powerful enough to push through in a sec, off roads no matter! Basically u will enjoy the broken parts of city roads which most people avoid. Mileage will be less if you do too much revv brake, say close to ~20 or 22. But if you more of a calm rider, then shouldn't be a worry at all!

    As a Bangalorean, this was the review I was looking for! Hit the subscribe as well! One more doubt, if it is comfortable for a pillion sitting sideways, like my mom or even female friends wearing sarees. And is the KTM ADV 390 X a better option if I don't want cornering abs and traction control to save money?

    • @RoadhawkVlogs
      @RoadhawkVlogs  Před rokem +1

      Thank you bro, glad it helped 😁🙏
      One sided pillion would be tricky on this (saying "would be" coz I never tried 😅).
      The rear footpeg is a tad high for saree wearers to climb on the bike, isnt very easy! But once in a while should be fine, seat is large enough and nice grab rails.
      If you looking to save money then go for X but if you are looking for a future proof bike then base 390 Adv. Every electronic feature it has, serves extremely well. Cornering ABS is the sexiest gem for the curves and braking confidence is crazy coz of this. MTC comes in handy in gravel, dirt, dusty kinda road as rear tyre will never make the bike spin away and loose control. And for highway rides, trust me quickshifter and autoblipper has been my baby.. No use of clutch is a blessing in disguise...

      Asura Garage has helped upgrade the front suspension travel by 2 inches by changing the spring and putting in a spacer. These springs are made by the garage and has better rebound than the stock one. Its a blessing really. Hey, yup its a direct fit. Its much softer with a lot better rebound than the stock. Increases the ground clearance by approx 1 inch (so does the seat height). Its rugged (as I am told) so expected to last longer. And its slightly cheaper than stock. Basically it is what KTM should have put in place of the stock and our lives would have been easier.

  • @nomading_in
    @nomading_in Před rokem +7

    The bike cutting out issue for most is probably poor clutch control 😬have the 390, ridden a reasonable amount of offroad, ride it reasonably aggressively for my skill level (low intermediate) and its performs great - keep it above 5k RPM! You definitely can't lug it, and I think the main problem there is marketing - this is pitched as a beginner bike (maybe more so in the West), and although I think it can be for some people, its actually better suited to someone with a bit of experience. If you feel confident offroad it'll really reward you (although you'll also find its limits, firstly suspension), but if you're feeling unsure it'll penalise you ...definitely more so than something like the Himalayan. Funny how no-one complains in a similar way about something like the Honda CRF, but for me I found that more likely to cut out as its difficult to find yourself in the right gear for the right situation, regardless of more torque on paper.

      I am 5'8 bro but never faced any issue with seat height. In fact my bike is 3 inches taller than 855mm. Counter balancing and learning to manage by maintaining center of mass is important with adventure bikes, because it is always better to have more ground clearance and seat height comes with it. It is more of the lighter adventure motorcycles, so its much easier to handle but even muscle masses like 1250gs can be managed easily by properly learning to balance. Of course u won't be able to put both feet down together if you are not taller than 6 feet but that isn't a problem at all. And not to mention, this gets easier as u spend more time with and on the bike 😊

On corners you have got to cautious as its a softer suspension, but personally haven't faced any issues even at higher speeds. It costs around 6K from hero showroom but if you can find someone who is upgrading to rally kit then it would be a steal deal (like in my case 😜).

      250 is essentially the same bike as 390 minus a few tech modules such as colored instrument cluster, MTC, etc. so you will definitely get a flavor of very slightly less powered 390 adv. Vstorm is nothing in comparison, I believe Vstorm is more of a road biased ADV like 310gs which can also do some amount of offroad but would kill itself to do what KTM can. Don't think u would upgrade to 390 if you get the 250 though as 250 is equally as fun as 390 😅

      @RoadhawkVlogs  Před rokem +3

      Glad I could help! 😁🙏
      You would sure feel a little underwhelmed using a single cylinder after interceptor but I think in terms of riding in city traffic, this bike is super easy to manoeuvre around, it is very nimble in nature and the power lets u over take easily too. So you are gonna love the weight reduction.
      Plus given the broken conditions of cities, I think you would off road anyway, if not on tours. It flies over the potholes and lets you enjoy the broken part of the roads which others avoid, so in many places u can cover the distance much quicker than the traffic, same goes with the highways as well.
      Dual radiator fans will also be a good addition to your rides, cooler rides as compared to interceptor.
      Its a very versatile machine, whether for ladakh or for commute in the city. Well I use it for everything!
      The only common thing about both the bikes is the mileage 😂 but that's totally upto how you ride. I am an aggressive rider specially in the city (get irritated too easily from traffic) so I have clocked 25 to 27kmph at best. But if u r calmer, even in bumper to bumper traffic, u can see upto 35kmph.
      In a nutshell, given roads aren't good in humara desh, best to have a light weight Adv.

      It is kind of an either or bro. Both are good bikes and all terrain. I believe the only major differences are seating posture, seat and wind protection. • @RoadhawkVlogs
      @RoadhawkVlogs  Před rokem

      Stock suspensions are stiff bro and they gave out pretty quickly on mine too (at ~8K kms on odo includes ~4K off roads).
      For city commutes, it should be fine and last longer than mine but upgrades sure help improve the shock absorption quite drastically. Iincrease of 2 inches travel in the front, and with better compression and rebound, the surprise speed breakers become easy to manage as you feel almost no shock unlike the stock (once it wears out half its age). Plus for a 6ft guy, I think it would be an improvement of the seating posture too.
      For the rear though, you can just run with the stock till it lasts, and then rather than putting another from KTM, just get the hero xpulse one which costs pretty much the same, so essentially upgraded in time.

    I think bmw is better against 390 adv
    1. awesome looks - 390 adv doesnt even come close to it
    2. good low end torque on 310 gs (no need to modify anything)
    3. amazing seat (again no need to modify anything)
    4. amazing suspension, comfortable ride ((again no need to modify anything)
    the above 4 things are must on any adv bikes, bmw has got it as stock.
    5. bmw has less power but not a big margin, you can easily cruise on 110 120 without any efforts.
    6. Yes BMW parts are costly, but that comes with the premium brand.
    My frined who's got 390 adv, we were on a ride and stopped for a break, around 10 people came and started taking pictures with my bike, and started complementing it (as the BMW looks amazing and eye catchy) well no one gave any attention to 390 :)
    looks are subjective, but it feels amazing when every time, be it on signal, petrol pump, traffic light, anywhere people just complimenting your bike..
    Ive done ladakh twice, spiti once.. bmw is amazing in its stock form, no need of any modification which is a plus point.
    whats the point of buying adv 390 costlier than bmw and still you gotta invest more for suspension, seat, low end torque etc..
    Ive ridden 390 and bmw is much more refined... bmw after sale service is top notch.. you will feel like you have a premium bike.
    now speaking of service, bmw has 10k kms, or once a year, this is amazing.. the service interval is blessing and around 8 to 10k service cost.
    and bmw has 3 years unlimited kms warranty..
    the only cons bmw has is, low power compare to 390 adv, but thats not much of a difference and other con is less service centres..
    and the other con is, bmw doesnt have any electronics, just an abs which you cant even switch off. however, i had hard time using 390s quick shifter, tc is pain in the ass as youve said. but the tft of 390 is a plus.. so overall if you'll see, bmw is a better option acc to me.

      Coming from a RR310 that I rode for 35000+ kms in one year, I just find myself on the other side of your arguments and also note that RR310 had overall better torque and power than how bmw tuned the engine for GS.
      Anyway, you seem to be a little too into looks bro but I like mine dirty and KTM makes me wanna make it dirty 😁✌🏻
      Enjoy "top notch" indian service too as it doesn't really matter whether apple, bmw, samsung or KTM till you are in india. There is nothing top notch about the service at centers coz those mechanics are getting paid a commission per bike, its always more the merrier for them. Hell you must already know how it is to be salaried. If you wanna get good and genuine check up done, go to a trusted garage near by. I can bet that u will get to hear about 10 different things that needs replacement which svc centers never told u about.
      Also just imagine that something in your bike broke, nothing major but some little and you are somewhere in a nowhere place in ladakh, no mechanic would dare touch ur bike but KTMs are essentially bajaj, so boom clap and done!
      Sadly I could read a lot of misconception in your comment as well but keeping that on the side if I may suggest, please try and respect all bikers and their bikes. Its not a competition, its a brotherhood. U like chocolate and I may not but that doesn't make chocolate bad.
      Just think of this way "you love your bike, amazing! I love mine as well, so try to calm down". Another may like a Himalayan or Xpulse, so perhaps just leave them be.
      Essentially you have more experience with what you own, and I have more with what I own (although I am a little fortunate here that I have experience of bmw 310 engine too).
      And as my friend the taklu says "The only thing that matters is who's behind the wheels". A good rider is always a good rider no matter whose handlebar he is holding (pun intended 😂).

    Did you change sprockets? Can a newbie get ised to 390 ADV? Should one begin with 250 ADV?

    • @RoadhawkVlogs
      @RoadhawkVlogs  Před rokem +1

      Hey, nope no changes to sprocket. I don't feel that the low end torque sucks, it is lesser than what it should be in an adv but it doesn't suck in any sense. Its more than sufficient for any kind of tours how so ever steep the climb may be. Only if u are going with a pillion, u may need some kind of upgrade and for that I recommend FuelX.
      390 adv is a safer biker than 250 adv in reality as it has MTC, cornering ABS and all the good stuff. As the weight of both isn't much different, I would say if you don't have a budget constraint get the 390 adv. And then take 1 step at a time, like first get used to road riding, counter balancing, saddling etc and then hit simple off roads and gradually increase the difficulty. Maintain a good rising learning curve and you would have the most of fun riding it anywhere.
      Hope it helps but feel free to check out my other videos in case you want any other info and you can always shoot a comment here for anything that I may not have covered. 😁🙏

    Adv390Rally or Himalayan 450?

    • @RoadhawkVlogs
      @RoadhawkVlogs  Před 6 měsíci

      If u wanna do hard core enduro style off road (with less jumps 😅), be comfortable and maintain decent speeds on highways then Himalayan is the bike u r looking for.
      But if you wanna have fun, whether cornering, off roading, pumping good speeds then ktm is the way to go. Ktm is also feature rich like MTC, cornering ABS, etc which help immensely. Plus that beautiful TFT will remain unmatched in the industry segment.
      The major difference between these 2 bikes is the weight and KTM is way lighter than Himalayan. This helps in better control and more fun.
      Basically KTM is a perfect dual sport bike, on the other hand, Himalayan is more off road biased. Lastly comes reliability and even though himalayan has it mostly figured out now, I have lost a little trust on it 🥲
      Just 1 more, if u r on a budget, just blindly go for himalayan. It's the best all rounder money can get at the moment.

    One thing I would like to ask How is the AGING OF PARTS of this bike? It's been a very long time since you are using this machine to extreme terrains throwing it to every possible scenarios... KINDLY REPLY...

    • @RoadhawkVlogs
      @RoadhawkVlogs  Před rokem +1

      Hey GoPuru, first of all Nice username bro 🙌🏻
      Regarding aging:
      The engine ages extremely well. Before the first service it was a vibrator, smoothened much after 2 and kept reducing with each service. Now its extremely smooth. No impact to power delivery, etc if you maintain it timely.
      Wear and tear is not very expensive as well. For eg rather than from KTM svc, I buy the chain and sprocket directly from rollon, helps save big bucks. I seldom visit KTM svc anyway, apart from ECU updates.
      The only thing that sucks is, as I told in the video, suspensions. The springs went bad too quickly. The travel wasn't enough anyway and rebound sucked too. The small little upgrades have helped tons with that.
      And the best part is that, even though it is a tech heavy bike, most of the repairs/maintenance can be done by any mechanic, like clutch adjustment, oil change, chain sprocket, etc. It has been a bless to be out with this machine and not worry for a minute like we have to with many other. We do have official KTM service stations in every corner of the country and now in Leh also but its a small comfort + confidence to not carry this worry around with u.
      I have aged as a biker with this bike and I would say we both are aging pretty damn well 😜

    • @RoadhawkVlogs
      @RoadhawkVlogs  Před rokem +1

      On road, it is simply a brilliant bike, whether maintaining good speeds of 120+ or cornering, oh boy cornering! I never imagined an adv to corner like this one does, all u gotta do is learn and get used to "counter balancing" and u are ready to roll. I had done a small casual fun compete with a friend on duke 390 bs4 and it was a neck to neck on all corners, approx 30 hair pins I guess. And he is a damn good rider too.
      I think Himalayan is a good off roader but extremely boring on roads due to the lack of power, weight and safety! KTM has a lot of tech safety like MTC, cornering ABS, etc. plus it has a large front tyre and lot of suspension travel which is just not good for cornering or just handling in general, its not nimble. With Morini I only worry about after sales service. It won't be easy to repair or get a mechanic in remote areas who can. The bike is sure very promising for all adv touring conditions, bit road biased but so is versys, just the service is a bit scary to talk about at this point.
      Do let me know which u finally go for 🤪🤘🏼

I never understood people who spend so much on the huge railings which they call the tank guards or the side panier guards, the side panels are literally the cheapest parts on KTM bikes (made by bajaj only and probably costs less than the guards). A KTM is meant to be light weight, its the very characteristic of the motorcycle, it is one of the USP of the motorcycle. Also the crash guard is an engine guard too, tank + panels + engine.
