I was trying to remember this poem and I'm so glad I found it. I agree wholeheartedly. I've known several bikers and they've been lovely guys but people just don't bother to look past appearances. It's really sad.

When I ride... I ride alone with God at the controls. Please look out for us. I ware bright colors so you see me. I make lots of noise so you hear me, but when I ride by hospitals, schools, and residential areas... I cut my RPM's down the best I can to respect those who are around me. All I ask is that judgment for one person isn't the same for someone else. I ride responsibly so drivers should show the same respect.

I am guilty of this very thing. I saw this biker, dressed head to toe as such. His vest bore the rockers of a prospect. Once I saw this I knew his life had taken a bad turn somewhere. As I looked at him I proceeded to make my own assumptions of who he was and how many things he was going to do wrong. I asked myself how can a person so young be drawn to this. There are so many questions that will be left unanswered because I will never get to ask my brother. He was killed on 31 Mar 15. Not in prison, or by another biker. He was killed on the freeway when a person driving a truck never saw him as they switched lanes forcing him into the rear tires of a semi. It wasn't until after his death that I saw just how many lives he touched.
One this side and the next you are always my brother.

+MJinAZ You evidently missed read my comment. I was fully acknowledging the fact that I was wrong about my outlook on his chosen life. I had the luxury of spending some time with his MC, and came to realize that the majority of people have them pegged for something they are not. Now that I was civil. He was my real brother, is that defined enough for you, or do we need to meet so I can further help you comprehend the definition of brother?

My husband has always rode. He joined the army at 18 in 1974. When he was stationed in Korea he saved nearly every penny. When he came home he got him baby, a brand new 1982 Sturgis FXB. He drove it from Midland TX. to Ft. Stewart, GA. The first time he took it out someone pulled in front of him. He was lucky to survive. The insurance totaled the bike. It was rebuilt and now 2 years ago he gave it to our son for graduation from MMI, where my Hubby is Chief instuctor.

A while ago a guy was tailgating me on my bike. I pulled him over and asked his wife to wind the window down. Then I asked her "do you want your husband to come home safe to you tonight"? "Of course" she says. I told her that her husband owes it to my wife to let me come home safe to her too. And asked her if them being were they are going two seconds sooner is more important than me getting home safe to my wife. Her answer was no, its not more important. They both apologised then I told them the last words from my wife that morning were "please come home safe to me". Please think about that next time your driving. Is two seconds more important than someone going home to their family?

I ride a 2007 VTX 1300 with loud Vance & Hines pipes. None riders may think because I'm a female that I just want to be noticed with the loud noise, when in actuality, I just want to be able to ride for many more years to come. As a car driver I have to say this video is very well done...and the fact that it's very true nowadays is INCREDIBLY tragic. People in cages are just too preoccupied with fidgeting with their air conditioning, CD players, etc. to give a damn about anyone else. Most American cars are automatic too...give people a stick shift and see how much more attention they pay then!
Hell...I drive a cage myself and the way people drive in my area even I worry about other cars on the road.

A prime example of what I mean- a few years ago my friend Amber passed a car on a country road. What she didn't realize was that in the other lane over the hill, coming towards her, was our friend Derek on his motorcycle.
She hit him. Derek's arm went through her windshield and was torn off, then he was thrown about 30 feet, breaking both his legs and his neck. Amber sat there holding him as he lay dying.
Oh, and Derek just got back from Iraq that week, too.

From expierience, when a non fatal bike (singel-vehicle) accident happens, then noone is caling cops or emergency, so it will NOT be on any statistics. If there is fatality or heavy injoury, usualy its two vehicle contact, then it will be on list. Yes there are some accidents when biker hits something (a three etc.) but again in many cases he had to avoid obstacle (a car?) but physics didnt alowe such manouvre, the car drives away usualy.

I watch for bikers. You are right, these college students on crotch rockets are a huge problem. I drove an RV in rainy, windy weather in New Orleans one time. These people on these crotch rockets were zooming in and out of my lane sometimes only feet ahead of me as well as in and out of my blind spots. If they slipped or stopped fast in front of me, there would have been nothing I could do. These people left me no escape route in case something went wrong zooming in and out.

When sharing the road with bikers try to note how many there are. If you make a lane change, be sure that you have accounted for each one. Use turn signals ahead of time and look twice. A moment of carelessness can literally cost someone an arm and a leg.

My dad was killed in a motorcycle accident on the 3rd of this month (two weeks ago). He was driving on a 2 lane highway in the middle of nowhere and a van took a right turn in front of him. He laid the bike down and survived the first accident but then a truck driver hit both my dad and the driver of the van and killed them. People need to get their heads out of their asses and pay attention to the road. Now my father is gone and I didn't get to say goodbye...

Thank you.. it was really hard on Amber knowing that her carelessness killed our friend since elementary school, let alone the fact that he just got home after serving in the USMC in Iraq.
But what was the worst part of it all? Amber got off with vehicular manslaughter and paid a fine. Derek's family had to shove out somewhere close to $6,000 to bury him.
Please don't put yourself in Amber's shoes, people. Look twice, save a life.

I hope car drivers take heed to this.

My Dad (not the afore-mentioned father, but my step-Dad) is a truckie. Because of the irresponsibility of some truckies, he gets tarred with the same brush ... people don't seem to notice the cars that stop short in front of him, and don't realise how long it takes a truck to stop.
Same diff. Bikies have a bad rap, truckies have a bad rap, yet most of the trouble is other drivers on the road who don't think!

I found this moving, and poignant. I ride a bike, and have for many years. On June 21st, I was hit by an old man pulling out of a bookstore. I was lucky. It was a 30 zone. Any faster, and I would've been killed. Now it's August 10th, I still have a lot of pain, 30k in medical bills and my Harley is toast. It took me years of maximum effort to save and buy my dream bike and now it's a wreck. It's one thing to know people who have had them, or died from accident. Please look twice. Thx, Dunwyche~

Great Video ...... I almost got run over by a drifter to my lane. It was an act of God that my bike didnt wreck when I hit the brakes to try to get out of his way. Those that hate us remember .... most of us are not bad at all. Most of just want to enjoy our motorcycles and at the end of the day go home.
