No insanity like the insanity of government regulations.
Wrong! No insanity like Liberal Woke Bullshit!
"Save it for the next fifteen years and probably never use it" OMG, I'm not the only one. LOL. How true is that! Love your channel
Was there a 10mm socket in there?
That is the SULEV tank and thank cal for it. There is a non SULEV tank for that car and if you plan to keep it would be a good ideal to look into using it instead.
was wondering what tank it was. my 335i tank is nothing like that. non-cali car tho.
thank you.

@@ROTTK9 This is the trigger for hoarding syndrome
Only Rube Goldberg could design a fuel tank to meet Kalifornia emissions.
Rube Goldberg would be proud of that tank.
Hey, we can comment again. Great video, greetings from the Netherlands
where is the space for the fuel?
The most complicated pointless fuel tank in history!
Mercedes does the same thing for their California fuel tanks too. Gotta love california.
Complicated? Yes.
Pointless? Not for whoever sell them.
Wow - what a spaghetti mess !!! thanks for sharing though... :)
Thanks MechanicSteve.... your curiosity and desire to learn is what makes you a great mechanic and interesting YT host.
No BMWs in my yard, but am thankful for the heads up bro!✌
Bmw= big money waster
So the tank holds like 6 gallons with all that stuff inside?
Isn’t it a 16 gallon tank?
@@Willhgf I was just joking. I am not sure what it holds but it holds a lot less with all that stuff inside there.
Thanks for sharing Stephen👍
You're the first one to actually dissect it on CZcams, really enjoyed the process😉
oh my gawd that is freakin amazing. great video Stephen cheers from. Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you very much for this video, I need that information to understand the problem with my car.
Appreciate it. I love this type of stuff.
Your wife needs to start parking her car with the keys in it, doors unlocked and the engine running. ;-)
God bless you Stephen! This is valuable knowledge
On my goodness! Wow!!!! That is ridiculous. Awesome for you to split it open. Thanks
"You CANNOT find this information, ANYWHERE
on the internet!"
WRONG!! There is a guy named Stephen Cox that
has posted a video, on the Tube. (Don't say it, I'm
doing a funny!)
steve
Was thinking of posting the same.
Very interesting fuel system. 👍🏻
Very nice brake down Video Bro @StephenCox
Bro, it's a not a miter saw, but I really appreciate your opening this up and exposing it.. I had no idea all that was in my E90's tank. I also figured the pumps were in the tank for cooling, but the regulatory concerns about high-pressure fuel line junctions makes SO much sense. I like that you understand why they'd require that, rather than just blathering anti-regulation foolishness. Also wondering if we're related because I keep subassemblies I'm likely never going to use as well. My youngest has been helping me clean-up this spring and toss or eBay things; the first part of addiction recover is admitting you have a problem. Glad you're even in my part of Texas. Thank you for every video you do, not just the ones about tricks the cops don't want you to know.
Thanks
Nothing like a peice of hose and a external pump end a presure regulator cant solve.. .
That is a very crazy setup BMW has.
Whoa - that is a ton more complicated that I would ever have guessed, althought it doesn't surprise me on a BMW.
If you keep those pumps on the shelf long enough they'll become antiques and even more sought after!
that is a funky looking miter saw you are using to cut the top off.
WTF was BMW thinking ??
Gracias ☺️
that is ridiculous.
Great Content!
Big difference between CZcams channels that are basically glorified commercials and people like you that actually bring value to the community. Thanks!
I have seen a similar system I like that one before. But it was scrapped before it even really got started.
HAHAHAHA!! Intro was great!!!
All I can say about that is, WOW!
Wow that looks incredibly expensive. I'm in the process of restoring an e92 328xi with the N51 SULEV engine and this is exactly what's supposed to be in my gas tank. Somebody warned me about the possibility of pipes disconnecting inside the tank, but I had no idea what it actually looked like. Holy crap! Just when I thought the oil pan repair was insane, this is some next level complexity.
Cool. Nice job.
Just. Like BMW to overcomplicate tank alest you figure out the problem.good job 👍✌️🖖👁️...
WOW what a mess
There are some engineers somewhere that are proud of that mess
10mm… the ultimate treasure at the end of the rainbow.
This video was a great idea, thank you so much! Except, I still don't understand how the fuel filler neck enters the tank, which was what I was hoping to see. Is there a check valve or something on the tank blocking an extractor tube from getting to the fuel?
My 300 is setup very similar, 2 pumps and senders. But it's more like a normal sender setup with the built in filter.
I saw this and im glad i drive Honda/Acura and old domestics. Even changing the pump on an S2000 isn't that bad.
The guiding principle in Formula 1 is : " What is not in the formula cannot be broken!!! !
Wow. What a system. Thanks for showing all that. BMW. Shame on you for not making this info easier to figure out.
The engineers that made that mess need one of those spring hose clamps installed on each Nad.
I knew you was gonna cut that tank open for a video. Been following for a very long time now and know just how you are bro. (Not a bad thing) lol
Lol 10mm socket... that made emy day!
How difficult is to replace the fuel pump? Or how long would take to replace?. Thanks
Comments?? Whooo Hooo!! Funny thing is now that I can leave a comment. When you said for now, were you talking about the car or the Wife?? Sorry I had to say it.. ; )-
Honestly tho. Awesome channel!! I have learned a ton.. And now I can say thank you! P.S I despise facebook! So I'm glad to see the comment section..
Dude you are GOD for posting this video!
BTW, where is that diagram you spoke about? Not sure where to find it on your IG
It’s the spruce goose of fuel tanks!,unbelievable.
Awesome intro right down to the 10 mm socket. Gotta work on cars to fully appreciate that.
It seems like the automakers intentionally make it more complicated than it needs to be so that it takes their technicians longer to work on it, thus making them even more money!
Awesome
It doesn't leave to much room for the gas in there does it?
Hi I need some help I replaced my fuil pump on BMWx3 2007 and found a little piece witch I I don't know where it came from I wish I can send you a picture of so you can see it maybe you can tell me what is for
Is that a N52 tank? I believe the N54 and direct injection tanks are a little more simplified
This is insanity, so much can go wrong, still own a car where the fuel filter is in the engine bay, what a god send.
Did you ever manage to get the dimensions of the inside of the fuel tank
what model car was this off of exactly? my 335i don't look anything like that.
My fuel gauge is stuck at 3/4 all the time. Probably fuel lever sensor or something. If it goes too low, with the light in instrument cluster light up for low fuel or not?
Looks like the tank should hold at least 3 gallons of fuel lol what a joke technology at it's finest.
Is the tank itself Plastic
Oh my holy wow.... they sacked a quarter of that tanks capacity to stuff all that junk in there.... sheer unadulterated madness...
@Stephen Cox great video! Love the intro.....who was that inside the tank? And can you get me a 10mm socket also?
Hi glad I found this channel, just a quick query, so I own a e90 320d ( 2010) and when I got the car I used to get a fuel reserve warning at 100km range and a continuous low fuel warning with a caution symbol in the instrument cluster at 50 km range but somehow after few trips I'm not receiving those warnings anymore... Even after having only 96km range of fuel... Any idea why? And how to get it back ?? Pls help !!
Cause its wrong
Why not power it up and make it work? BTW r you going to fix the 7.3 and finish the video?
Was that a flathead ford you were working on in the beginning of the video?
Now that's one seriously needed autopsy.
Somebody in the California EPA needs a damn good Thrashin'!
My bets MAGA's gonna' be Hannilin' It.
Hello I have a 99 bmw 328i gas needle not working noticed fuel is only on one side of the tank the side with the fuel pump the side with the fuel sending unit does not have fuel can anyone help
That is absolutely ridiculous!!!
why ! what a nightmere!!!
Fuel.
I'm going to lead a much better life from now on because I've just seen what hell looks like. "This" is what's wrong with the world. Well, at least one thing. Thank you for the insights. Cheers from So. Ca. 3rd House On the Right.
where does the fuel go?
Did you find the problem?
Quickly becoming one of my favorite CZcams channels. "You'll never guess what's inside a BMW fuel tank", after this video we can all safely assume it's not fuel. Car manufacturers should get together and simply refuse to sell in California.
There's no friggin way....the amount of BMW's I saw when I was in California...its like every other car. 75% of all cars I was there were either BMW, Tesla or Prius. It would cost them BILLIONS and BILLIONS. Theyre gonna suck whatever Cali tells them suck.
As a mechanic, do you ever feel the deck is stacked against you? Lol
Only every day.
10 mil socket, I'm in there.
Its cause they use a standard hose clamp and not a fuel injection clamp
And, 10 years (at the most) after they change models, replacement tanks will not be available and the car will end up as junk. Ahhh, what a college education can do.
Did you stuff chuckie in that gas tank?
"hEy StEpHeN wAnT A 10 Mm?"
What's the point in a fuel tank when half of its capacity is taken up by the fuel system 😂😂😂😂
There's more stuff in that tank than Mirage has in its engine compartment!
I didn't see a 10 mm socket
My first guess; Fuel!
Petrol?:-)
My god...too complicated.
I feel like 90% of that mess in the tank is because of the saddle design. So that it can balance fuel, and give accurate fuel readings.
My car has a returnless design, and the fuel pump takes 10 minutes to get out, with basic tools.
Another reason to only buy American I'm so glad i live in Texas 🤘
Look at all the space for fuel used up my completely garbage
Darn, it looks like a computer nightmare. What a mess. Must have been a real selling point.
Now you get fuel tanks ending up in landfill, most likely with residual fuel inside...
Sure it's cheap to fix if something breaks
Well there is the problem, all those chips etc ;)
y r u moving
not much room for gas in that eh?lol
