    OK I'm pretty sure you've been peeping through my curtains, because you've just described by new rescue boy EXACTLY! 😆 This video has absolutely made my day, because I have actually been doing some of these things with him already (and they have massively helped both his sanity and mine), and now I have some extra strategies to add - yay! Honestly, all of your videos are so incredibly clear and helpful - thank you SO much, and please keep producing them - they are honestly the best ever, and I've already recommended them to so many people. Thank you, and I hope you have a great day too 💖

      Thank you so much for your very kind words🙂, I really do appreciate the support. All the very best with your new rescue, they can have their own unique challenges and some have such complex histories too. It can take a while for these steps to work but so worth it. Sorry about trampling your plants outside the lounge...just needed more inspiration 😀

    This was so clearly explained; so helpful. In the past, I have enjoyed being a foster mum for a variety of dogs. I just really love having at least a couple of dogs in my home. However, we have adopted an easily-aroused husky and he has shown us that he finds it impossible to calm down when there is another dog in his space. It makes me feel badly for him, for the other dog, and for us. Lately, I have been prowling the local dog rescue websites; looking for another dog to add to our mix but your video has convinced me that if I want peace in my home, if I want my dog to be chill, I am going to have to resign myself to living with just a single dog. Sigh. But, thank you.

      Thank you so much for appreciating the video. Maybe revisit it again in a few weeks or months if all is going well? Thanks again for watching and all the best with your new foster.

    I have a very hyper dog client and I have been working on this for years and completely the wrong way (probably why it hasn’t worked). I do give her a Kong before I leave but she’s often finished by the time I get to the door. She’s learned to bite the middle with her massive Molosser jaws and teeth and get the good stuff out quickly.
    She’s extremely hyper in the house after we’ve been out playing in the yard and she comes barreling at me and tries to jump in my face. She’s very friendly and sweet but I have bruises and scratches all over me and no matter what I do she continues this.
    She’s food motivated as long as she stops to see it and gives the ball a rest but she’s so fast that I can’t access a treat and give her a command (or at least a goal!).
    Also the other thing that makes your awesome information a bit harder to implement is that there’s another dog who is a tad older and has lived there several years longer. He always growls at her if she comes up on the couch and he gets really wound up when he knows she’s hurt me and he wants to protect me. He’s very sweet too so I’m not concerned about them fighting for real, but if she gets treats, he gets treats, as with quiet time and other things mentioned.
    Sorry this got long! Any advice on dealing with her one way while entertaining and engaging him would be fantastic and appreciated! 💜🐾💜

      As much as I would like to give advice, it is really difficult as it is very difficult without an assessment. I would really look at limiting play in the yard if she goes to that extreme, smaller and more often rather than longer would be a good place to start. The kong is either too small or the food is too easily accessible in it. It should be a little bit difficult to get to, which keeps them trying and going back for a little bit more. All the best

    Thank you so much for this. My mixed-breed puppy is very easily over aroused, and when that happens, he redirects and attack my legs or my hands, often drawing blood. So I’m hopeful that following these recommendations will help this situation.❤

      So sorry you are having these issues. Have you considered a muzzle ? A properly conditioned one with large gaps so you can reward good behaviour through ?

    • @SusanMaurer
      @SusanMaurer Před měsícem

      @@abcdogsNZ I had not yet considered a muzzle, but in thinking about it, I believe it might be a good idea, especially since he also tends to pick up and swallow everything he comes across outside. So I’ve ordered one from Amazon, and will try to desensitize him to it when it arrives. Thank you for the recommendation. ❤️

    hi how do you keep them calm when getting ready to go walking my girl grabs the lead wont let go is so over excited makes it hard to calmly get her ready for a walk

    • @abcdogsNZ
      @abcdogsNZ  Před měsícem +6

      Hi there. This is difficult as there are many reasons dogs do this, however one thing you can try is attaching the lead multiple times a day and not walking, just attach and take off again (that can help lower the association that lead means walk). You can also begin the walk inside and walk around inside your house for a few minutes before going outside, this can help lower that excitement too. Often people attach the lead at the door and that becomes a cue for excitement to begin...so look at ways you can take away that over excited behaviour attached with the lead...stick with this, it can take a while to work as lowering that excitement attached with the lead etc can be really strong. Again, this is just general advice and I hope you have success with this.
