FYI. The Japanese soldiers after their surrender & defeat in WW2 were tasked of maintaining civil orders until Allied Forces came to repatriate them back home to Japan.
That... sounds bad, on so many levels... with the IJA's well deserved reputation for brutality, that's like asking the Germans to guard the concentration camps until the prisoners can be taken in by hospitals...
@@thomasvertommen9526 Which was why Indonesians were enraged and in some cases Indonesians attacked the Japanese soldiers such as the assault on Kempeitai (Japanese secret police) base in Pasar Baru, Surabaya (Surabaya is the East Java's biggest city) shortly after VJ Day, in 1 October 1945.
Some of these soldiers were possibly involved in war crimes toward locals such as enforcing & perpetrating romusha (forced labor) and jugun ianfu ("comfort women")

I don't understand Dutch but I can see the film depicts the final days of the Dutch colonial rule in what is now Indonesia. The sad fact is that after Japan's surrender, the Dutch tried to re-colonize Indonesia and many people were killed in the independence war.
Many Europeans were killed by these terrorist groups, trained by the Japanese, until the Dutch army came to restore order. That was the main purpose.
One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter. The “terrorists” you mentioned were actually freedom fighters fighting for independence and freedom.

Interesting the show the Japanese soldiers to in this movie, imperial Japanese soldiers also fought right after ww2 ended in Vietnam for the British
Most of the times Japanese soldiers were behind the revolutionary armies in Asia, for example in Indonesia the Japanese “temporarily control area” after the world war 2 become nucleus of resistance movement.
Kind wondering if this movie shows the true, thus the Dutch coming back to take control of the colony, or a new version of history were they are the good guys liberating the Indonesians...
But dutch had built so many magnificent buildings, rail roads etc. Their architecture, design, and quaility were best, till now some are stand strong still. I like them ❤

Yeah, this scene is a little inaccurate. The Japanese weren't personally harsh to the average Indonesian, only Indonesians that had been sent to labor camps. Also, this takes place after Japan lost the war so they only would have been carrying weapons around the internment where they kept Dutch people in. Realistically, They would near internment camps fighting off Pemuda forces, not bullying the local Indonesian

@@pawasjayabalit1801 this is in Indonesia, not Malaysia. There were two forms of education back then which was either western or the national curriculum. From what I know from my grandpa, the western one allows you to learn different European languages including Dutch and German.

Net de film gekeken. Vraag me oprecht af, waren er nog Japanse soldaten daar na de oorlog die bewapend waren zoals hier te zien?
Ze zeggen dat de Jappenkampen na de oorlog nog steeds in gebruik waren. Alleen nu niet meer om Nederlanders gevangen te houden, maar om ze te beschermen tegen de rebellen. Al betwijfel ik dat de Japanners in de positie waren om zich zo te misdragen. Maar wie weet is het wel voorgekomen.
@@Fuzz82 Ik heb weet van groepen Duitse soldaten die in het naoorlogse Duitsland werden ingezet om de orde te bewaren en vluchtelingen te controleren op wapens en zo. Nooit problemen bij geweest. Nadien gingen velen in dienst bij het nieuwe Duitse leger (onder geallieerd bevel). Misschien was dit met de Japanners iets gelijkaardigs.

Indonesian weapons bought from the Soviets, the currency was rupiah, not guilders. Whether you want to accept it or not, whether you like it or not, Indonesia is more independent than you know 🤣
