Martin short is an absolute comic genius and a legend in these interviews. If you took a pen and paper and counted all the lightning fast and genius jokes that he comes up with on-the-fly it is astounding. Almost everyone interviewed is a comedian, they know they are on a comedy program and that it is supposed to be a humorous interview. Some choose to act serious or upset, some play along, some can't help but burst out into laughter. The makeup and fat-suit are so bad that even on these grainy fuzzy pixelated youtube videos, it is obviously just a costume. Yet in person, it must look laughably fake. Considering that practically everyone on this show is a comedian, it would be impossible not know it is a joke as soon as they listen to Jiminy's voice, watch Jiminy's antics, or look at his facial expressions. This is not a prank show. Its not the Ali G Show. The guests are prepped and aware in advance of everything, they even ask Jiminy questions about his fake wife and kids. If you watch Jon Stewart's movie Rosewater, they show how The Daily Show interviews are set-up as well. The guest is prepped and fully aware that they are on a comedy program.
For me, the best ones are when they're not acting and are just treating it like a normal, talk show interview and are open enough to laugh at the brilliantly worded insults Marty is leveling at them.

Towed Away I think Mr Boyle just played his part differently than other famous people choose to, that of a curmudgeonly old actor who thought the interviewer in front of him was an idiotic pompous ass who did not do any homework. As you know Glick famously gets everything wrong about the guest in front of him, famous people sometimes act badly toward interviewers who make mistakes in their questioning. When Glick started off with mistakes about Boyles fame, Peter Boyle simply reacted, that my friend is acting.

And either way, whether Boyle was acting or being himself (I think the latter), he was being ungracious.
John Marrero I did meet him at a benifit once. he was most gracious and a regular guy. we spoke for about 30 min, just him and i. he certainly ly was a talented guy
I think it's possible to know it's pretend and still get bugged. Martin Short is the one playing a part. The only pretending the celebrity does is acting as if this lunatic next to them is a real interviewer. For the rest, all they're doing is being themselves.

But as soon as Boyle said 'I'm tired' I got the sense this would be an uphill battle. They probably showed his segment because Glick was interviewing all the actors.
I'm familiar with all the arguments as to why Peter Boyle wasn't really pissed, but I have watched the interview several times, and I still give it about a fifty-fifty chance either way. If this was one of the ones done on the set of the Jiminy Glick Show, I would say sure, he was probably acting, but this is a La La Wood one. He comes down to the Everbody Loves Raymond set on a work day, and catches them on break, or whatever. They may not have NECESSARILY bought in to the whole idea. In the Ray Romano one, he also didn't seem super excited to be there. Doris Roberts was fine, but seemed more like she was just being polite, than anything else.
These are professional actors that know and respect Martin Short and understand that he’s in a fat suit, hot as hell, putting on a show for Comedy Central who is paying them and promoting their own shows at the same time. The point is to make viewers laugh and it requires acting from all people in front of the camera. I think in a way you discredit Boyle by thinking he’d be so short minded and rude to go ahead and really get agitated by a skit he agreed to be in. He’s acting! He’s a good actor. That’s why you keep thinking this.
