      @@misterhumerus Fair-skinned bald men look terrible in beige, because it's skin-colored and there's no contrast. People with darker skin look great in it. But so would a fair-skinned woman, provided she had dark features like long black hair and prominent dark eyebrows, to provide the necessary contrast. It would also help to be trim, as such light colors do nothing to conceal size, like black or navy would. In other words, Jiminy was telling him that he looked great in beige, when everyone knows he's the worst type to try to wear that color based on his pigmentation, lack of hair, and rotund size, and that he actually looked like crap.

    The best Glick interviews are when you can't tell if the subject is playing along or actually pissed off.
    Although I would imagine everyone's in on the joke, I would love to think every once in awhile, someone actually gets offended.
    This is one where it could go either way.

    • @PiffJamez
      @PiffJamez Před 8 lety +20

      Everyone that does an interview with Jiminy is in on the joke and knows its Marty Short. Almost everyone interviewed is a comedian, they know they are on a comedy program and that it is supposed to be a humorous interview. Some choose to act serious or upset, some play along, some can't help but burst out into laughter.
      The makeup and fat-suit are so bad that even on these grainy fuzzy pixelated youtube videos, it is obviously just a costume. Yet in person, it must look laughably fake.
      Considering that practically everyone on this show is a comedian, it would be impossible not know it is a joke as soon as they listen to Jiminy's voice, watch Jiminy's antics, or look at his facial expressions.
      This is not a prank show. Its not the Ali G Show. The guests are prepped and aware in advance of everything, they even ask Jiminy questions about his fake wife and kids.
      If you watch Jon Stewart's movie Rosewater, they show how The Daily Show interviews are set-up as well. The guest is prepped and fully aware that they are on a comedy program.

    Martin Short talks about one single Glick interview that went sideways on him. He won’t name names when discussing it but my money’s on this as the one that got away from him. They’re both ‘in on it’ so to speak and knew it would be silly but Boyle isn’t giving a single bloody thing back and seems to be quite unfunnily irritated. Others have said he’s an actor acting. Sure, maybe. But I’ve never seen a person jump up, slam their lav off and leave Jiminy holding the bag. Not once. 4th wall shatters when Glick says he feels badly. I believe this is a real reaction to Short not knowing, that Boyle didn’t know what Jiminy Glick is all about or what was in store. If this IS acting then Boyle is a selfish actor who gives nothing for his partner to work with. My money is on this being real, Boyle being irritated and Jiminy doing what he does best: not giving up until Stacey says ‘cut’.

      Towed Away I think Mr Boyle just played his part differently than other famous people choose to, that of a curmudgeonly old actor who thought the interviewer in front of him was an idiotic pompous ass who did not do any homework.
      As you know Glick famously gets everything wrong about the guest in front of him, famous people sometimes act badly toward interviewers who make mistakes in their questioning. When Glick started off with mistakes about Boyles fame, Peter Boyle simply reacted, that my friend is acting.

      Towed Array, I totally agree with you. As soon as Boyle said, "I'm very tired" at the outset, I sensed it wouldn't go well. I felt that he was expressing some resentment at having to do the interview, and letting Short know he really wasn't up for it. When Glick said at the end that he feels bad, I think that was an acknowledgment that Boyle was truly annoyed. It is totally out of character for Glick to feel bad ~ that was Short feeling bad. And either way, whether Boyle was acting or being himself (I think the latter), he was being ungracious.

    I don't know why people think this one was funny, it was a struggle to keep Boyle from really getting mad lol. In all the other Glicks, the other person usually lets out a genuine laugh. But as soon as Boyle said 'I'm tired' I got the sense this would be an uphill battle. They probably showed his segment because Glick was interviewing all the actors.

    I'm familiar with all the arguments as to why Peter Boyle wasn't really pissed, but I have watched the interview several times, and I still give it about a fifty-fifty chance either way. If this was one of the ones done on the set of the Jiminy Glick Show, I would say sure, he was probably acting, but this is a La La Wood one. He comes down to the Everbody Loves Raymond set on a work day, and catches them on break, or whatever. They may not have NECESSARILY bought in to the whole idea. In the Ray Romano one, he also didn't seem super excited to be there. Doris Roberts was fine, but seemed more like she was just being polite, than anything else.

      These are professional actors that know and respect Martin Short and understand that he’s in a fat suit, hot as hell, putting on a show for Comedy Central who is paying them and promoting their own shows at the same time. The point is to make viewers laugh and it requires acting from all people in front of the camera. I think in a way you discredit Boyle by thinking he’d be so short minded and rude to go ahead and really get agitated by a skit he agreed to be in. He’s acting! He’s a good actor. That’s why you keep thinking this.

      @@arthurcurry2003 Just because you're a comedian, doesn't mean you're always making jokes. Just because you're a plumber, doesn't mean you're always plumbing, and just because you're an actor, doesn't mean you're always acting.

    This must have been one of his first interviews as Jiminy. He hadn't yet perfected the voice and mannerisms. Still hilarious, but a little rougher around the edges.
