One more awsome video. Retroflag has got very intresting products. Many thanks .Aggelos Greece.
Thank you! Cheers!
i got one of these and had for over 2 weeks just getting the right image for it now great little toy
Awesome, glad you're enjoying it! 👍😎
Headphone jack? Sign me up!
Merry Christmas, my friend. Health and happiness to you, and yours.
lol, nothing but the best! Thank you, I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas too!
My god that is bloody cool in a demented Retro way. Thanks young lad. Great critique as usual.
Thank you Sir!
@@WagnersTechTalk You're welcome Sir!
Looks cool and clean
RetroFlag never disappoints, this is such a cool little case! You can actually change the text size when working in the terminal: just change the resolution in the /boot config.file under "console" and the text should be larger and easier to read.
Awesome, thank you for the tip! Agree, RetroFlag makes some of the best products.
Great video master Wagner.. I'll have one of these soon myself retro flag does a great job
Thank you my friend! Yes Sir they do make some great products, really digging this PS1 style case with the LCD display.
Good review Jon!
Thank you my friend!
Great video :)
Glad you enjoyed it
thought shortly that there was only one with the monitor, was about to get a bit salty, nice to see that it has a none monitor attached version as well, which i personally think fits it better.
Priced around $30 for the non-monitor version, it's a good price if you don't want the LCD monitor.
merci pour le tuto de montage (thanks to setup tuto 🙂 )
Bienvenue, merci d'avoir regardé !
Looks very nice. I would like something with a bigger screen though for the type of games.
The version without the LCD panel may be something of interest to you. The screen is small, but the panel itself looks very nice given it's size.
I love Retroflag. They make the best cases. There SNES controller is almost perfect. I do have an issue from time to time where I press down but it registers as down and right or left and my character will move. But other than that, love their stuff. This is a great cases for Playstion fans (which I am not) lol but that added screen is so cool
Agree, love RetroFlag cases! All that I've used have been very well designed. Thank you for watching Retro Man!
That case…. I can’t stop grinning!
Purdy ain't it? 😎
@@WagnersTechTalk vury much so
good. thanks. i had to look up where the + and the - pole from the fan is connected! ... was it from Paul Mc Cartney build as the original?
Thanks for the video! Regarding cooling, in your opinion, which is the best case among the ones you showed in the video? Argon, NES or PiStation? Thanks!
Of the ones mentioned, likely the ArgonOne has the best cooling. However, I've reviewed a lot more that you'll find here: wagnerstechtalk.com/guides/#Raspberry_Pi_4_Cases . For cooling, the DeskPi and Argon cases seemed to perform the best.
Very cool video! 👍
Do you think there is a way to adapt a raspberry pi 3 b+ in this case?
Thank you, definitely not something I've tried. I can't say if it would/wouldn't work.
Can I use thermal paste to stick the heatsinks to the board? Seemed like ppl generally aren't to happy with the thermal tape
You could sure, might just need to scrape off the tape and clean it good before applying the thermal paste.
@@WagnersTechTalk I wonder if the heat sinks would hold in olace once the board heats up
In my opinion, the thermal tape is fine. I left it running for x2 days straight with a game loaded to exercise the CPU a bit. No cooling issues from what I witnessed.
My screen has a black border around it and is not utilizing the full display. Any recommendations?
You can make adjustments for each emulator to adjust. How you do it exactly is going to depend on what you're running, such as RetroPie, Batocera, Recalbox, etc.
Can this also display to an external monitor while being in the case?
Yes, but when you connect the HDMI cable the video switches from the case to the TV/Monitor as shown in this video. Hope that answers your question.
Wagner. I just bought this and there is one big issue. The Ethernet is not accessible once the case is closed. Darn. I have to have Ethernet connection for my online retro leagues. Any ideas? I have the non lcd display. Maybe there is a male to female Ethernet short cord adapter and I could drill through the side and run it out ?
Look on the left-side, there is a small tab. Push in and pull out that panel and you should have access to the Ethernet port (and two USB ports).
@@WagnersTechTalk oh thanks. Did I miss that In the review? Thanks for the video by the way!
I mentioned it briefly ~ 09:02 . Very welcome Sir!
@@WagnersTechTalk ahhhh. Yeah I stopped after you showed how to put it together because I already have the image and the safe shutdown and all that stuff. My fault.
Lol, np
I have been searching for an answer to a question I have but since it's probably a ridiculous idea for most I can't find an answer. But I'm a ridiculous person so I gotta ask 🤣
I have a raspberry pi and I have nes, snes, sega master, sega genesis, and playstation games loaded on it. I've bought usb bluetooth controllers to match each gaming system. Is there a way I can plug the wireless USB adapters into the pi and use each controller for their respective game without having to remap the controllers? Can I add a USB hat and just leave all of them plugged in? Thanks!
I've honestly not tried that many controllers connected at once. If they are BT controllers, you can set each up individually to RetroPie, Recalbox, Batocera, etc. You will have to configure/map each of the buttons for each of the controllers. For those that require a USB dongle, you could use a USB hub connected and again map the buttons for each. In theory, it should work but I've not tried it. If you do, please let me know how it goes, I'd be curious to know!
@@WagnersTechTalk 👍
Does the LCD screen work automatically or do you need to do something in the commands to make it work?
It's automatic, you don't have to install anything for the display to work.
@@WagnersTechTalk thank you for answering me.
mine speakers doesnt work.... with hdmi sound configuration.. Im going to send it back to receive another one.....
In Emulation Station, go to the sound settings and try each of them. Maybe it didn't detect the correct one. What distribution did you use?
is the mini fan meant to blow into the pi board to cool it or out the Pi case dick tray vent to blow the warm air out? few other ppl have it put in the other way, I wonder which cools it better if even so? thanks
It cools largely the same so it really doesn't matter. I asked this question to a different company, they saw very little difference in cooling either way.
@@WagnersTechTalk though as much, I did turn my the same way. Finally got everything set up with retro achievements and some netplay there fun to be have with this great desk toy!
Will this work with the new retro pi 5?
I can't say, my Pi 5 hasn't shipped yet. Might want to check with RetroFlag directly. They may know.
So how do you get the lcd working ?
The img I put in the pi4 won’t work on lcd but will work when use hdmi to tv from case
You just plug it in, no drivers to install. If it's not working, make sure everything is tightened down. Still no go, make sure the connectors on the Pi are seated properly, the first time I plugged the connector on to the GPIO only one row of pins was connected (I couldn't see well with the camera in the way). That's likely what the issue is, make sure both rows are connected to the GPIO pints. If that's still not it, you can contact sales@retroflag.com for other suggestions.
@@WagnersTechTalk the thing is that a new retropie img will work , just not one that has games etc already on it
In that case, it's not defective. Try this, plug in the device into your TV and set the display resolution down to 1080p (1920x1080p) or even perhaps lower on the image in question. It may be set with a default resolution that the display can't handle. Otherwise, I don't have any other ideas, but sounds like the case is fine. Maybe contact the developer of the image, if possible.
@@WagnersTechTalk I’ve figure it out found a file to change and now works
Awesome, great to hear! Happy Holidays!
Could this run retroarch ?
And would the safe shutdown work for it too???
I didn't test RetroArch, not sure.
@@WagnersTechTalkthank you for the reply, your video was very informative as well 🙏💪🏽.
well that doesn't work for me. I installed the scriped as shown but the pi doesn't shut down anymore when I have save bootdown on. When I switch that switch off it just crashes the whole system of course
What are you running on the Pi?
@@WagnersTechTalk Recalbox. I changed the stuff that needed to be changed for Recal which is the sudo part. It installs, but when it says it will now restart the system it just doesn't and says it can't find something. When I type in reboot it does exactly that, but the powerbutton is pretty much useless from that point on. No powering down at all.
Oh same goes for the reset button. Not functional after the script
i dont know what my problem is, but I tried everything to make it to stop to say "no signal". What can be the problem? i just got power for it and have my bluetooth adapter in it. I also tried to connect hdmi to tv and monitor on pc and it doesnt work
A few things: Make sure it's powering up, try a different HDMI cable, double-check your Pi's connections (wires are seated properly, all pins are aligned correctly). Just a few things I can think of.
@Wagner's TechTalk it is powering up, because it says no signal on blue screen and turns black later. It works I see it
@Wagner's TechTalk ive tried 2 cables hdmi and 3 power cables
Double-check this connection 03:47, when I first assembled it I didn't have my glasses on and was off by one pin (something I didn't want to admit to, but you forced me lol). If that doesn't work, remove the Pi from the case, plug it into your TV/Monitor and see if it boots fine outside of the case. If so, you got a bad case. If not, you got a bad Pi.
@Wagner's TechTalk ok, all works. Problem was in power. I just have used usb to pc not to power socket. But after I tried it in power socket all worked.
Can you play on xbox controller on a ps5 controller too with Bluetooth support?
Sure, you can use most any BT controller.
@Wagner's TechTalk it's incredible! Thanks for you tutorial and review.
Very welcome, thank you for watching! Here's a video from ETA Prime that covers the PS5 controller connected to RetroPie in more detail: czcams.com/video/4RjnQi-2fjs/video.html
@@WagnersTechTalk i just got it today and I need you help, because I dont want to break this cool case. I cant remove LCD one side is like its glued to the case or do I need to completely remove 2 screws?
@@sliderit Yes, you completely remove the two screws (no glue). There are connectors on the back where it slides in/out.
Was your board overclocked? Was also wondering if there was any heat issues?
I did not encounter thermal throttling, it wasn't necessary to overclock for the games shown.
@@WagnersTechTalk awesome to hear thank you! I'd prefer to avoid overclocking
@@WagnersTechTalk any tips for a new pi user? Have pi 4 2gb otw (scalpers suck -.-)
@@shockwave.9749 I have a bunch of information to help on my website (with videos, in most cases). Skip over those sections that are not of interest to you here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4/ . Some I'd recommend there: PINN Lite, Win11 of the Pi, cases that may be of interest, etc. If primarily (or only) interested in Retro Gaming, then this link should answer many questions and provide a good foundation for options that are available: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/ . Hope that helps you get started!
@@WagnersTechTalk awesome thank you so much! And yea this is gonna be for emulation only :)
I tried everything. I guess the scriped they give us doesn't work with Recalbox at all even though they claim it does
Just curious, did you set the Safe Shutdown switch to on and install this version of the script: github.com/retroflag/retroflag-picase#example-for-recalbox
@@WagnersTechTalk Yes I did. I turned it on and used Example for RecalBox:.
When I delete everything all buttons work, however as soon as I use the script the buttons don't work at all anymore.
I remember reading that Recalbox already had built-in support for the shutdown scripts pre-installed for the NESPi 4, likely the same API that exists within the PiStation. I may be wrong, but the scripts may only be necessary for RetroPie and Batocera. I definitely tested with RetroPie and the scripts worked fine there. Their github page doesn't specifically call out the PiStation case and that may be why. To make sure I don't tell you wrong, check with Retroflag here: sales@retroflag.com and see what they say. If you find out anything, let me know please.
@@WagnersTechTalk Thank you! Will do!
Did you solve it?
