R.I.P. Ian Lavender - the final original cast member. I reckon the entire platoon is still keeping watch in Walmington-on-Sea, somewhere in the next life.
I'm trying to find a scene, or am I imagining it. The Dads army is discussing individual military tactics, and it's intercut with German generals discussing military tactics on the divisional level. I believe it gave me a great laugh a long time ago.
I loved the tv series. Don’t remember these clips in the show but then again it was the late ‘60s through the early ‘70s so a little while ago now. I guess movie only clips.
I was always curious to how the conceptual sequel to this movie (Secret U-Boat Base) would have turned out. Maybe David and Jimmy would have been allowed more control and input over it.
Croft and Perry didn't have much say about the making of the movie as the film company basically sidelined them and took over. The cast have admitted they didn't enjoy the experience of making the movie because the director and producers had no feel for how the characters were portrayed and no latitude was given to the more elderly cast members. You are right about Liz Fraser being cast rather than Janet Davies simply because she was a well known Carry On star. Overall though it's not a bad film, it's notoriously difficult turning a half hour comedy into a ninety minute movie and a lot of attempts have failed miserably. Dads Army was one of the better ones. The remake only works if you can remove the images of the original cast ftom your mind. As a comedy set in WW2 it works but as Dads Army it was on a hiding to nothing even if it did feature Ian Lavender and Frank Williams to give it some credibility.
My wife and I went to the local theatre several years ago, to see a production of Dad's Army. No doubt the actors did a great job, but as you say we had the images of the original cast in our heads, so Capt M was never going to be good when he was now a tall thin man
I'm a proper fan of the show and the radio series, but I have to say they made gross errors in this film adaptation. The TV sets should have been replicated exactly, as the rather cosy feel of the church hall and its office added to the charm of the original concept. That set actually looked like church halls and worker's institutes all over the country. Starting from the beginning again also meant we got a shorter story and a re-run of events most people were familiar with. Mrs Pike should have earned the right to the role in the film, but the distributor wanted a glamorous British film celebrity to boost receipts. I'm afraid Croft and Perry let us down, there. But this may explain why Liz Fraser didn't get a great amount of on-screen time or dialogue. The remake of this film is an insult, but then again, so is the BBC's mercenary attitude when they jump on YT uploads of complete shows for copyright infringement. The public paid for the originals, and they've all been repeated several times on TV and radio. Plus, you can get the set for a few quid on Ebay, so it appears the BBC just want to be nasty about some of their productions and not others. And finally, if you haven't heard it, _'Ten Seconds From Now'_ - one of the radio shows - is arguably the funniest script of them all and I highly recommend you listen to it. While the TV shows are funny, this radio-only production is actually laugh-out-loud funny.

Awwww. now i'm really depressed...
I love this film! It's WAY better than the 2016 film!
2016 film was a political correct chew fest...sometimes it is better to let sleeping dogs lie...
The remake was another disaster.
PC What a load of tosh,, And please comment in English. "Chew fest" does not exist@@blaggerfiftysix
I enjoyed it@@StephenLyons-tl8ie
Immortal quote.." they're never going to get their hands on it "
...Well, they did....
A brilliant series, so funny, proper humour.
The remake was an absolute disaster. It should have never even been considered. This is the original and best by any judgment. 😊
I agree.😂😂
Your so right and with a lot of movies i.e the Italian job. Pure crap.
@@TheCannonfaceInteresting that with other films that have become classics; e.g., Kelly's Heroes', 'Casablanca', no-one has attempted a remake.
Good.
Yes you are so correct!

Just heard the sad news of the passing Ian Lavender (Private Pike) Friday February 2nd 2024
Rest In Peace, Mr Lavender
Poor old “ Stupid Boy”!
Not many TV sitcoms made it to the big screen with great success but I do think Dad's Army did. The Likely Lads too I would say and maybe Porridge
Army AND Navy? Yes sir, Army and Navy Stores.. classic from my favourite character Godfrey!
I watched the entire movie here on CZcams years ago. Unfortunately it was deleted.
I totally agree there are certain classic shows that should not be remade no matter what and Dads Army is one of them
superb editing and clip choice great comp! thanks!
Classic ,great characters and casting.
Remember these "Middle aged men" were a product of 1914-18.

I thought I had all the episodes but I have never seen any of this?
They went round the side!....
Damned unsporting of them.
That's a typical shabby Nazi trick
Dad's army so funny rest in peace lan lavender now join his friends in heaven
Is the 1971 Dad’s Army movie available for Region 1 (Canada/United States) or Region Free, or as a download?
Everybody knows the best line comes from the series "don't tell him spike". Thank you.

That episode is my favourite. "After the war, then we will examine the list !" and " I want my chips crisp, not soggy. "
