Sometimes it happens that the original belonged to a solo album, and got popular, so they used it in a movie sometime later with a few changes to the original composition to make it sound a tad bit different.

Well to be fair it’s T series who does this but….. as a fellow artist jubin should also have some moral conscience. Specially his copy of Nusrat Saab’s(THE G.O.T) Songs. Like at-least pay the the original singers but T-Series doesn’t even give credit. And by not giving credit the newer generation won’t even know there was an original before the remake. thats because the original artist didnt own the song to begin with. A singer is different from a lyricist or a composer. The lyricist sells lyrics by the bucket to the record label, who then hire a composer and a singer. And they do it again decades later with a different set of artists.

Thanks that was a great reaction.I agree with you the originals from the golden era especially were music gems, they had some of the best lyricists cum poets, music composers and directors in that period who put a lot of emphasis on the quality of their film songs. The original artists/singers indicated they had several hours, could be several days of rehearsals depending on the film scenarios for the quality & quantity of music. Also, the actors made an effort to attend the studio sessions when the playback singer would record their film songs to understand the intensity/scene they portrayed, it was a different era, they were all close knit. Sadly too many remakes are on a rise, originality is by a handful, our parents/grand parents generations prefer the charm of the older versions. A couple of artists songs here are from Pakistan, remakes of their originals.

Like that's the longest form of visual entertainment and they could've at least changed the dialoyges to fit into modern context considering sarabhai was released in 2004 and channa jor garam in 2020. So the main point is when we talk about copying or inspiration bwood is not only the one targetted most but its attacked like really badly while other industries get turned a blind eye on. why this partiality?

@@prabhleenburmi9704 You got to be kidding that Pakistan has copied equal number of songs. Go on CZcams and type Bollywood the world's biggest Chappa factory, plus many more. Some shows on chappa are done by Indians themselves. Even some songs sung by Lata are copies done by the Music Directors. You could easily do 2 hours show on Chappa, Pakistani copies will take 15 minutes. In this presentation alone, there are about 15 songs copied with paying for copy right.

  • @Rod123ism

The old/senior artists had to work harder and train under the Legends of Music, like Rahat was trained by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, from childhood. I agree with Efra here. In this show alone, there are about 15 songs copied from Pakistani artists, like Nusrat Fateh Ali, Atta Ullah , Mussarat Nazir, without buying the copy right. Remember Remake is also a copy because you are using it partially (Lyrics or composition). You are getting help, then you have to also pay the original talent. Pakistan also has copied a few songs but not too many (less than 10), but for Indian copies, you could do a 2 hour show. We don't hate Bollywood because they are also good at Movie/Film songs. By the way, Bollywood gets inspired (so to speak) from all over the world, including, Hollywood, European and some other Asian cultures.

The adjustment for sentiments of movie to match with song, singers slightly change their lyrics or music to fit the album.... That is why you see a few (song) and (song 2.0) . Some of them survived till date only because they came up with the original song on their own and are not less than a Gem themselves. 9:40 Do you know guys! Kumar Sanu has a "Guinness World Records" for recording the maximum number of songs in a day. He made this record in 1993 when he recorded 28 songs in a single day. Sanu was one of the most popular singers in the '90s with songs like Tujhe Dekha To (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge), Ek Ladki Ko Dekha (1942: A Love Story), and Do Dil Mil Rahe Hain (Pardes) to his credit.

I agree with new gen being lazy in comparison. They don't have to work hard and they don't. Older generation practiced for ages. Many new ones like to take pride in never having a formal training( or merely an year or two when they get stuck) and being proud of their limited range in most cases. Thanks to technology, lip sync on stage.. and what not.

One of the reason of remaking is sometimes the Singer first sing their songs in the regional language (mostly Punjabi) and when these songs become popular they later get adopted for Bollywood movies. And the same singer sings the song with little change of lyrics in hindi or probably the same language for attracting a bigger audience. (Though audience are already in love with those songs that's why they become the part of movie)

About the T-series comment and how they hold copyrights to many songs: yes and no. Half of Jubin's career is re-singing Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's songs (a Pakistani legend). Sometimes he gives credit and sometimes he doesn't, which is T-series's fault but also his - he should know better and should tell them to give credit if they don't. He remade Sehar Gul Khan's Bol Kaffara and decided it wasn't necessary to acknowledge it. He said since he changed a word form the chorus it's technically different and doesn't require credit - pretty rude if you ask me regardless if the orginal creator is Indian or Pakistani. Great voice but bad manners and low credibility because of these things if you ask me. It's not too difficult to be professional and kind - you just have to say, orignal credits, or "inspired by". The issue with not giving credit is when poeple discover the song through Jubin who are newer to Indian music are never going to know that it's not his original work and actually belongs to another aritist. It's really disgusting in my opinon to to just steal someone's work and build your own following and fame without acknowledging it

Some rumors even suggested he was in some Pakistani jail for murder after the affair- Don't ask. I never read film magazines and yet even I got to hear them from others. Songs were all over the place. We listened both versions of songs back then itself. ( t series on one and AK's original)

During the 1960s-1994 in Bollywood, we had a legendary music director named R D Burman. He was known to bring international music in the blended form to Bollywood and bring a lot of experimental fusions. The typical 1970s hippie overtones, *0sdico overtones and in this case, Songo sounds were brought by him in his musical compositions. This mantle was taken up by Anu Malik, A R Rahman (who went on to build his own signature music) and Pritam later on.

Most of the og songs are from Pakistani legends that got copied and ruined(most of the times) by bollywood. Now you might find some of the new versions better but as someone who understands the language, I'd say remakes are not good because the alterations in lyrics are not smooth and they lose the beauty of their poetry if that makes sense... and not just bollywood, in my opinion original is always better although a remake might sound catchy and trendy.

They often feature Bollywood- or popular TV show- actors and have high production value so it may seem like a lot of them are from the movies but they’re not. They just have really compelling stories and great visuals! Also Waleska, about your question on T-series - they’ve been around since the 80s and it’s now become this entire music conglomerate. It’s always been a big player in India for mainstream music production and Bollywood music but there are other companies too!
