OK, horror film lovers, this one's a bit low on horror if that's what you're looking for. But enough for me. Creative on the monster types. Lots of big bugs and icky monsters to go around. Big on family drama, although not over-the-top. Doesn't explain the monsters coming and going or why there are so many of them. I suppose that's the science fiction part? Get some popcorn and enjoy!

For those who are interested, the writer for this movie (Gregory Gieras) also wrote "Big Ass Spider" which is pure, cheesy fun.
I loved Big Ass Spider! Still watch it every now and again when it shows up.

It was a real fantasy horror with great acting, brilliantly clever & unusual plot with good monsters & plenty of nail biting moments

Scientific, paranormal or the machinations of God, its anyones guess

I agree. The acting was great, and I love the narration of the news casters and thought that it added an extra touch of realistic horror, as if it could happen for real. The monsters could have done with a touch of color, but the variety of species among the demon hordes more than make up for it. All around, this was a great film. I love how Satan himself never made an appearance. In my opinion, it made for a touch of suspense, especially during the scene, with all the fanatics crowding around the family car as they are trying to evaluate.

Superv film all around. I have a few minor concerns, but I would give this film a 9 out of 10 all things considered. Last time that I was this impressed with a film, I was watching the 1982 film Q: The Winged Serpent!

Good movie, but I have to wonder why there isn't a full army just camped out at the drill site at all times, and the entire complex rigged with a large scale explosive in case the base is lost.

Wasn't that bad, I couldn't find it on the web and had no clue this was even a movie. Anyone got more info on this as a web search only provides the most, the Underworld vampire movies.
One would think if these creatures were affected by salt, that moving to, and setting up safe zones/shelters on the various salt flats would be the wisest thing to do. That and/or setting up shelters in salt mines which have been worked during the times between eclipses.

Difference between blacks and whites in films (no offense). 'We have to find a new car'. Then he proceeds to exit the first car and casually stroll about. Meanwhile, in the space of 5 secs we would have exited the first car, found a new car and be on our way again. No Time for chit chat and making ourselves a target. And.......(1)The male lead is handing out weapons, girl holds basically a dinner knife and butter knife to fight against monsters, and says 'I'm good.' (2) They have left the relatively safe facility which is surrounded by monsters, yet they are able to casually walk outside with no monsters in sight.

For that same reason, I don't think that are any underground caverns big enough for millions of winged subterranean creatures, to be flying around in. Especially, if they have an 12ft. Wingspan.
