Whenever Square Enix releases a big Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts trailer, it's now a tradition of mine to quickly re-create the music by ear overnight.
Kingdom Hearts 4's Trailer Music took a bit longer tho as I was busy this weekend.
I tried to keep it 1:1 to the original as much as possible in the very short time I spent on it, however I may revisit it in the future to fine-tune it and add my own style to it. We'll see!

I feel this track has a lot more to say than what we heard in its original form here by the way, so I may take a leaf out of Samuel Kim's book and do several versions of it in the future!
Also, if the trailer music says anything about this game, I think it's safe to assume Kingdom Hearts IV will be very inspired by Final Fantasy XV and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in terms of mood.
From the music alone, the game feels more tragic and Sora is even more portrayed as a hero
@@AlexMoukalaMusic you mean Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Final fantasy XV was supposed to be versus XIII, but Square Enix removed Tetsuya Nomura and replaced with a different director. I feel like Nomura still have a deep passion for his Versus XIII project and would not let it go. There’s a video on CZcams where they compared side by side with the original Noctis from Versus 13 and Yozora from the ending of KH3 ReMind in their cars. I just got a feeling that KH4 is moving towards a dark and serious story.

@@AlexMoukalaMusic Amazing stuff on the recreation! I actually got goosebumps from what this track was eliciting here, (it was kinda hard to hear the track from the trailer so thank you for this!). Also it's very interesting you gleaned MCU tones from the mood of this piece. I'm curious as to what your take would be on the Secret Boss theme from KH3 Re:Mind. I can't shake this feeling that Yoko Shimomura (or whoever composed the piece) was vibing off of Star Wars, but my friends don't seem to believe me.

1:13 gives me chills every time, I bet you this will be one of the main boss music for KH4

It's honestly the best part of the song for me personally. So heroic, sad, eerie because of the place Sora is at. Like for me, i keep thinking. What if this song is hinting us of what the new theme could be. What if we don't get Dearly Beloved. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get a new theme and I also wouldn't be sad if we dont get another Dearly beloved. At this point, it's hard to say if Dearly beloved will be a thing. New saga would make since for a new theme but the sequences and story telling of the series does have a Dearly beloved that does represent each game and has a tone of what the game will turn out. So KH4 could have a darker tone of dearly beloved but not in a sad way. Probably slow like KH2s version but more emotional

Sora definitely gives off superhero vibes now more than ever. That shot of Sora running past crowds of people to fight the Darkside is one of his most badass moments in the series. Top 5 for sure.
@@Enixgeek For sure. While everything he does is standard in the normal KH world, in Quadratum were its citizens are ordinary people like you and me, Sora is defientely a superhero of sorts. Its beautiful.

Yep, definitely sounds like something straight out of XV. I wonder if they are going to use completely different music in this new story arc.
A good bit of it sounds reminiscent of the Scala ad Caelum tracks as well.

When I was going over this music from the trailer in my head after watching it a few times, I thought "hey, that sounds like something...that's the Somnus motif". Absolutely beautiful piece, pure Shimomura at her best

@@Wizard_Pikachu mm...it's hard to explain exactly, it's not that it uses the exact melody and sounds the same, it's more like there are parts of it here and there with some changes and they get cut off differently.
So to compare to the original vocal version of Somnus, you can hear what sounds like the beginning of the vocals at the beginning, and again at about 0:58 for a few seconds. Around 1:27 it sounds like the end of the violin part that leads into the piano section.
Sorry, I know that's vague and probably not that helpful, it was more of something I mentally associated with being Somnus while I was thinking the melody over in my head, so some of it is there, just not super consistently.
Another thing I could probably add is that if you listen to Somnus and speed it up a bit, (or slow this one down) you can also hear some more general similarities with the violin in particular

Well, the beginning part IS Somnus Legato, so ....
I really love this track. It also sounds much more cinematic than the usual KH music or even FFXV. Well, besides Yozora's boss theme (Nachtflügel) for obvious reasons.
By the way, with Star Wars in KH4 pretty much confirmed I'm really excited to hear the music for that world (you can see an AT-ST foot in the forest (Endor) scenes). Imagine a Darth Vader fight with his theme arranged by Yoko Shimomura!
I'm not so sure about all that...the forest scene could be of any place with old abandoned tech in it. Even if they did use part of the Endor environment it might be just to show off the graphical fidelity, since the engine being used to make this trailer and that of the environments in the movies are the same.
@@KenjiShiratsuki There are comparisons that clearly show it's the foot of an AT-ST. There is no way they accidentally ended up with the exact same features, not to mention in a location where they were seen in a movie.
Of course nothing is 100% confirmed but even if you ignore the obvious tease Star Wars would be a great fit for Kingdom Hearts anyway.
It's far from confirmed. I'm not saying it won't happen, but the evidence is extraordinarily circumstantial

@@ALeafOnTheWind42 considering the flora is verbatim Endor plus the foot, dude I know it sucks, I dont want anything lucas films touching KHs, because that gives Disney the excuse to add fucking Marvel into KH. But facts are Facts, We are getting Episode VI in Kingdom Hearts. I hope it's just a videogame inside Quadratum or a Movie a character is watching... but we cant stop Disney from shoehorning bs in KH. Look at KH3, sorry but, its over, Square Enix is in Disneys pocket and nomura doesnt have a fucking spine anymore.
Listening to this, I got a sudden wish that some day you'll get to interview Yoko Shimomura the same way you got to interview Uematsu and Soken. She's my favorite composer (not just for KH) and it would be amazing. I got to meet her at a KH orchestra concert once. I was so happy

What's Great about Yoko is that she composed the Music for a Final Fantasy mainline game so I hope for a mix between her KH and FFXV style for the next arc

This sounds so nice. I was so focused on the dialogue and what was going on in the trailer that I could barely focus in the music. I'm glad I could listen to this track properly.

1:14 is it somehow possible for a single portion of a song to feel simultaneously full of hope and utterly hopeless?
Like seriously, in my minds eye I can picture this part of the song being played over someone breaking down in the rain after having lost everything, but also over someone standing firm against an overwhelming force prepared fully to take it on.
That part makes me think of the saying, "if there's no hope, you have to be hope." Fits Sora nicely.

I can't wait for this.... and honestly?... I think Nomura want to make this like Ultraman reveal, I-I can feel it! I can feel the energy of classic super hero vibes then the lightshow of old school props musical battle theme! You all can't ignore that the 3d texture also reminds you of Kamen Rider vibe with Sora's hair and action sequence happening around the city when the monsters attack it!

the entire song sounds like it came straight from the attack on titan ost! especially the part at 1:30 it reminds me a lot of that one part from ashes on the fire. Great job on the re-creation too, it sounds amazing!
