It was a cold cloudy windy day at Shea and not a lot of people there. It was Easter Break so I had off from school for that game against the Expos. You could hear the ball popping in catcher Mike Fitzgerald’s catcher’s mitt as Gooden was dealing all day. I’ll ever forget it. It came full circle for me when I saw Doc pitch for the Yankees against the Mets at Shea in the summer of 2000. Despite all the issues Doc endured I still consider him one if he best pitchers I ever witnessed live.

Add in a batting title and an MVP award. Plus 2 world series rings with 2 different teams. Sadly, Keith is one of those players whose value can't be measured by gaudy stats.

I hate the HOF voters because they prescribe to a certain set of rules. First and third baseman always have to hit home runs, and guys like Ozzie Smith can get go to the HOF with a .260 lifetime average while Keith is denied with a much higher average and two fewer gold gloves. I've always thought the voters should be players who were in the era of the candidates. I'm 100% sure Keith would get in that way.
It is an utter disgrace that Keith Hernandez is not in The Hall of Fame!! He revolutionized the first base position.....and was a great clutch hitter...and as consistent as the Sun rising every morning.... I hope one day before I pass away I see him rightfully inducted in...

New York had two amazing first basemen playing at the same time in the mid-80s. They seemed like shoe-ins for the hall back then, but injury cut their careers short. Different styles of play, very different personalities, but both were beloved. Great hitters and gold glove fielders (Mattingly won 8 GGs)

Aaron, Ruth, Clemente, Musial Williams, Gibson, Griffey Jr. etc. 2nd type the guy's you can argue both way's for and against. Keith is the 2nd type. I sure would like him to get the call though. Maybe with his work in the booth --- who knows?

And some guys who are right up there with the best are being treated as if they don't even deserve consideration....Examples of the what I mean: ALL RELIEF PITCHERS. To me, putting a relief pitcher in the hall is like putting a pinch hitter in the hall. Take the case of Trevor Hoffman...he pitched to just over 4000 men in his entire career. KEith had over 8000 plate appearances, and the ysay his career was too short. It took them 15 years to get Edgar Maritinez in the hall, and he had more than 8000 PAs, too. Kevin Brown pitched parts of 19 years, and had the same ERA+ as Tom Seaver, who is regarded as one of the best right handers of all time, and he didn't even make it off the first ballot! Lance Berkman had a better OPS+ than Duke Snider, and he didn't make it off the first ballot! Some of these voters need to be replaced....

Almost all my sources in this video come from CZcams and it is very RARE to find regular season games pre-1980. Someone would have to have taped the game and uploaded on CZcams, and you have to consider the chances of someone deciding to tape a regular season game in 1974, and then deciding to upload to CZcams.
