More than 60,000 street cleaners in southern China’s Shenzhen can enjoy a free meal once every week, thanks to a community programme called WeChat Love Meals. The project is a joint initiative by the local government, a community group, and tech giant Tencent. It aims to serve 600,000 meals by the end of 2021.

it’s sad that they didn’t feel comfortable or able to walk in and eat at one of those places before. hope it becomes more normal or acceptable in the future. everybody deserves to eat warm food in a comfortable atmosphere. kudos for this idea and to those who are participating in it and funding it.

I love when the society acknowledges hard working people who are not 'visible' and without whom would the society would be much worse. The best measure of a person's character is how they treat those that can do nothing for him, likewise... The best measure of how civilised a society is is how it treats its underprivileged. A civilised country isn't about having the tallest skyscraper or having the most billionaire it is when everyone has the basic dignity of a human. Without these cleaners we're all living in a perpetual dumpster their contribution is way understated.
