  • 👉 Learn how to find the partial sum of an arithmetic series. A series is the sum of the terms of a sequence. An arithmetic series is the sum of the terms of an arithmetic sequence. The formula for the sum of n terms of an arithmetic sequence is given by Sn = n/2 [2a + (n - 1)d], where a is the first term, n is the term number and d is the common difference. Where the last term is known, we can use Sn = n/2 (a + l) where l is the last term.

Very cool explanation!! I would suggest a way to make remembering and understanding the second formula a little easier, as you can imagine Un = U1+(n-1)d as the nth term formula, aka simply another way to count the nth term formula, from an nth term sequence.
For instance you could find the formula of the sequence : 2, 3, 4, 5..., by simply realizing that it goes up by 1 in your head, and then thinking how much you'd need to get to the first term by addition, (1, since 1+1 = 2), and therefore understanding that the formula would be 1n +1.
HOWEVER, you could also use the formula Un = U1+(n-1)d, and substitute the first term and the common difference in, Un = 2+(n-1)1, and then solving the equation to get Un = 1n +1.
-Un is just another way of saying the nth term basically.
