  • So as my friend asked me to have a look at these trailers (and it didn't take a lot of convincing not going to lie lol) today I delve into one of my favourite franchises - the final fantasy franchise and take a deeper look into the world of FF14! A game I have briefly dabbled but not fully invested in...yet! Should I take the dive, is the game worth playing? Lets find out! Let me know down the comments below if YOU think this game is worth playing and if so what is your favourite class and game expansion?

I don't like MMOs and never played Final Fantasy game in my life, but FF14 became my favorite game of all time. It starts very slow (just like every mmo) but the story in the expansions (especially in shadowbringers and endwalker) is one of the best stories in all fantasy media.

Oh trust me, even as a Hardcore Final Fantasy fan, I can vouch for Final Fantasy 14's story. Out of all Final Fantasy games, in my mind, Final Fantasy 14 ranks as the absolute number 1 in terms of story and characters. And it's no wonder, you spend so much time in the beautiful world that is Eorzea, and you learn so much about the different characters (especially the ones in the trailer), it just starts to feel like home after a while.
And even if it didn't, the devs have packed so much love into the game, and they continue to expand upon the story.. and the best thing about it: Endwalker feels like a real ending to the first story arc of the game, picking up plot threads from all the other expansions, and tieing them neatly together. It's a master class in story telling, and definitely my favorite out of all FFs.

Full expansions come out every couple years, but there's patch content spread out every few months to update the story and release new raids and dungeons and such.
One selling point is the fact that you can play every class on a single character, so while you don't have access to the class with the gunblade at first, you can swap to it later.

Answers for a couple of your questions that aren't story or spoiler related, though I'm sure you friends will tell you as well lol:
Yes, the main dude in the trailers is representing our character that we make. You can make them whatever you want, they just went with Generic Anime dude for the trailers lol.
And yeah, he was given a different Job or Class each trailer, to represent how you can play as any or all of them on just the one character. From damage dealers like Samurai, Monk, Dragoon and Black Mage, to tanks like Paladin, Warrior and Dark Knight, and healers like White Mage, Scholar and Sage! Plus different jobs for crafting and foraging like Miner, Fisher, Blacksmith, Weaver and Carpenter! Plenty to do :D
And yes, you can use a Gunblade lol. Gunbreaker is the Job that uses it. It's one of the Tank classes, but you can't start out as one. Some of the Jobs are unlocked through quests and can only be started at later levels.
And don't feel too bad for us about the waits between expansions lol. The game DOES get updated between them. The expansions have numbers that go with them, so Realm Reborn is 2.0, Heavensward is 3.0, etc up to the new one Dawntrail, which will be 7.0. But in-between they have smaller updates that add a little more story, new side content, lots of stuff. Like right now we are waiting on the 6.5 update to come out pretty soon.
So yeah, definitely give it a shot! It is indeed unlike other Final Fantasy games, yet also so familiar! There's so many references and nods to the other games, I'm sure you'll love seeing them!

  • @KarlMorey684

Gunbreaker is a tanking class, and they use the big gun-sword that you saw a few times in the trailers.
Around 19:45 you asked if everything was this sad or angsty, and...well, there's no shortage of drama, but that particular trailer (Flames of Truth) represented the devs actually *DESTROYING THE WORLD* at the end of FF14 1.0, before they spent 2 years absolutely furiously rewriting the whole thing from basically the ground up before releasing 2.0, titled A Realm Reborn, which is the FF14 we all know and love.
1.0 was pretty lousy, from all accounts; I wasn't there, but I've seen enough explanations.
The next trailer you watched, named A Realm Reborn, was the (re)launch trailer for the game back in 2013.

yeah, if you were to start the game now those first two trailers are in the past. the wreck of the giant airship is a location in the game, and you see references to the battle in the second trailer and the destruction caused by Bahamuth are referenced often

    • @MorguerotheGaming
      @MorguerotheGaming Před 11 měsíci +3

@JM-nothing-more yeah 1.0 was a jumbled up mess of a game that was basically unplayable. The player base left and the devs decide "yeah we screwed up. We're kinda sorta starting fresh." They shut down the servers. That Flames of Truth trailer played for anyone in the game when the 1.0 servers went down. Thus, the name of 2.0 which was A Realm Reborn. It was a complete rework of the game and a massive success, keeping the story of 1.0 as the past. It happened but the spell cast on the Warrior of Light sent them into the future to keep them safe.

Worth noting for anyone curious that people could actually watch the Red Moon with Bahamut in it fall from the sky in real time in 1.0, and the devs kept spawning in superbosses and the nuttiest stuff they could to have fun with things as people united together for the final days of FFXIV 1.0 . Also, apparently anyone who had a character from the original game not only got their names in the ARR credits, but they also got a unique tattoo shaped like the R symbol on the other Scions, which is Louisoix's symbol (the old wizard man). So that's pretty neat!

Been playing since 2011, before Realm Reborn even began. Still at the top favorite game of all time for me. It'll steal your time, but you can always limit yourself to doing 1-2 quests at a time if you're concerned about it stealing your life. So much good stuff~
EDIT: Also yes, the second cinematic is how the 1.x storyline ended. Bahamut gets loose and wrecks half the planet in seconds. Dude has a wingspan measured in miles. He WINS. D:
Not a spoiler either since 1.x isn't playable anymore, everyone starts in 2.0 and goes from there.

Honestly, FFXIV is one of, if not, THE best Final Fantasy's out there, and maybe even game period. I haven't had the chance to play 16, so I can't say that it IS the best, but in story, nothing I've ever played has ever compared. The story in 14 is SO good! Heavensward and Shadowbringers, especially, are probably the best stories I've ever experienced in ANY media. So, to answer the question posed by your title, I would say that the answer is a hugely resounding YES, YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST PLAY THIS GAME! Even better, now is an especially good time to play as it has been announced that the free trial will be expanded to include the first two expansions, Heavensward and Stormblood. It already currently includes Heavensward, so it's adding the second expansion, Stormblood. That is many many hours of content, maybe even over a hundred, for FREE! There are some restrictions in the free trial (you can't have a retainer, you can't join a free company, your level will be capped at 70, you can only have a max of 300,000 gil, you can't access the market board, and a few others), but honestly it's still VERY worth it. And I'm willing to bet that you'll upgrade to the paid version long before you ever reach the end of the free trial period.

There are 5 major patches between expansions, which happen every 2-3 years, with some more minor patches. So, say, Shadowbringers' release would be version 5.0, and there were versions 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and 5.5 (with minor patches in between: 5.11, 5.15...) before 6.0 aka Endwalker released
They only make this sort of cinematic trailer for expansion packs, aka .0 versions! So we have been getting new content and story in these 3 years, do not worry

The summons are called primals or eikons in this game, they do have a fairly large role in this game, as for the details, you'll have to play to find out😁. There IS a summoner job as well btw xD. The horse riding person in the forest was Odin btw.

Oh yeah, don't worry about the wait. The game drops 'Patch Quests' between expansions, which are big story content with unique dungeons, bosses, twists, etc. to link things from one arc to another. So the actual story and reveals never stopped. We've also been getting entire new raid questchains, which have been consistently great since Heavensward, so that's pretty nice. Those are basically fairly self contained mini stories about dealing with other larger plotlines off to the side.
So yeah, people haven't really been waiting too long for content, it's just that this is adding the new BIG stuff with the new areas and classes and stuff. And that's something people are super excited for because nobody really knows what the one-handed sword Class in the trailer is going to be. But my bet is on Weaponmaster. I think we're getting the Bartz/Noctus fighting style and that as soon as the full DawnTrail trailer comes out we'll see our guy start summoning and using a bunch of different weapons back to back in a really cool way, which should be really neat!

Gunblade is absolutely playable as the Gunbreaker job, though to play it you have to reach 60+ (current level cap is 90) and own the Shadowbringers expansion. Yes, there is also Samurai and 17 other battle jobs currently, as well as the 'limited job '(too OP for normal play, so it's its own thing) Blue Mage, plus 8 different crafting jobs and 3 gathering jobs, all of which you can acquire with a single character, making it so you never actually need to make another.
The guy seen in all the trailers is referred to as Meteor or Derplander (mostly by the community) among other names, and is meant to represent the player character in the trailers.
There's tons of lore, probably hundreds of characters at this point, about 500-1000 hours of main story (depending on your pace), 5 expansions worth of additional patch content including raids (8-man and 24-man), dungeons, trials, a couple dedicated expansion zones with full stories, all of which is kept evergreen by the level-synched duty finder, and an assortment of other activities like glamour (fashion), housing, and, after finishing Endwalker, you can even get your own island... it's a LOT.
If you do decide to play, just know that all the stuff I mentioned is mostly optional - really the only thing you have to do is the main story quest and a few side things that were deemed necessary due to their importance to the story later. There's no rush. Nothing is mandatory and everything is encouraged.

The male character, officially named Meteor Survivor, more commonly known in the community as Derplander, is our in-game character so he represents us in the trailer. He starts from Archer (1.0), Warrior (A Realm Reborn), Dragoon (Heavensward), Monk and Samurai (Stormblood), all the jobs he represent until he changed to Dark Knight (Heavensward) and Paladin (Endwalker). For Dawntrail, he uses a new job for that expansion so until the next two FanFest, we don't know its official job name or if he even uses the new job.
Starting from Shadowbringers onwards, you see the other cast members (party members essentially). The one using the gunblade (Gunbreaker) is Thancred, the one that was always with him in the last 2 expansions is Urianger (Astrologian). 2 cats, the Miqotes, the male is G'raha (he's an All-Rounder, uses Paladin, White Mage and I think Black Mage), while the female one is Y'shtola (Black Mage but hers is called Sorceress). The Dragoon is Estinien (one can argue he already appear in Heavensward but that's up to debate), and the twins whom you saw in Endwalker is Alisaie (Red Mage) and Alphinaud (Sage).
Whether is it worth to play this game, I'd say yes. Been around since A Realm Reborn 2013, the story gets better.

54:53 Yes, it's called "Gunbreaker" in FF14, and it is a job that comes with the Shadowbringers Expansion. You can unlock it once the Expansion is purchased and you have a Lvl 60 Character (Any class).
I suggest you play the Free Trial, use it to beat the Base Game, Heavensward, and then Stormblood (it's being added to free trial soon) and then buy Shadowbringers to unlock Gunbreaker.

      @sinom Před 11 měsíci

to add to this. You will only need to buy either endwalker or dawntrail depending on when you actually get through stormblood. Any purchase of the currently newest expansion includes all previous expansions.
Also most likely older expansions will in the future also get added to the free trial. Heavensward was made free in 2020, Stormblood in 2023 so ShB will most likely be made free in 2027 or so. So always only the newest 3 expansions will be paid for while the ones before that will be part of the free trial

In the A Realm Reborn trailer you had commented on the dark knight on the horse, that is Odin, a Primal you have the pleasure of fighting in game(pretty hard fight if your doing it for the first time).

  • @Domura

The composer for the game, Masayoshi Soken, is an absolute beast with the music, it's all so good. He even wrote the climactic song for Shadowbringers while in the hospital for 6~7 months undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, a situation that he had kept secret from most of the rest of the development team because he didn't want to impact their performance worrying for him. They only found out when he announced at a Fan Fest, live on stage, that the treatment was successful and he's doing better. He's a total legend.
So yeah, the general course of FFXIV updates, we get a teaser trailer first and then the full trailer is dropped later on. We'll probably be getting it in January 2024, to tempt us for a June-ish release, the full trailers are more or less twice the length of the teasers and expand some scenes and add more that would reveal some other hidden info of the expansion. There's one scene here that looks like it'll be expanded in the full trailer when the white haired catgirl is looking down at something and seems surprised, we'll likely be seeing what's going on in the full trailer.
Many of the characters shown in these trailers have been with us from the start but they didn't start getting screen time until Shadowbringers, when the story is well and good getting settled in on you and them as the main cast of the story. While the 'main guy' the trailers follow does generally make for a stand-in character for the players, he's also got an in-universe representation of his own. That elf dragoon dude too, Estinien, is a pretty major character and a proper badass.
There's a ton of references and callbacks to other games in the series, if you're a longtime fan of the series there's just so much for you to see and experience. There's bosses, raid battles and extra content that is all themed around different games, it's easier to list the titles that haven't gotten a ton of representation than those that have been covered. As much of a treat as the main story and experience that 14 is, the extra content and additions along the way are an even greater prize for fans that know the rest of the games. My own brother was so invested in the post-story plot introduced in the post-launch content of Endwalker that he went and bought the whole 1-6 pixel remaster set so he could play through the entirety of FF4 just to have better context for what it entails.

I suspect the fight scene will also be extended. There is a lot of buzz around the WoL being a new class, so them cutting the fight short to keep the details of that under wraps a little longer seems to make sense. Plus, there is likely more to see between Estinien and the Mamool-ja tracking that beast down and capturing it.

To do a brief resume about the trailers, the brown haired man in everyone of them is called Meteor by the community and he is the stand in for the Player Character and his job changes to represent the flagship job for every expansion (Archer for now inaccessible 1.0, Warrior for 2.0 A Realm Reborn, Dragoon for 3.0 Heavensward, both Monk and Samurai for 4.0 Stormblood, Dark Knight for 5.0 Shadowbringer, Paladin for 6.0 Endwalker and A yet undisclosed new job for 7.0 Dawntrail).
To clarify, the game has a extensive live patch cycle between expansions that help continue the story and release around 2 to 4 months or so, regularly adding MSQ (The main story quest of the game) and Endgame content (More difficult versions of MSQ fights and some independent Endgame content), as well as new side activities, this is usually referred as the X.1 to X.55 patch cycle.
The Gunblade is the weapon of the Gunbreaker Job, is a designated Tank role (Thou the community often jokes it is a DPS in disguise), but you need to meet a few requirements to unlock it, that being having a LVL 60+ Combat Job and to buy Shadowbringers but before you can panic when you look at Steam and see the only expansion available is Endwalker, all previous expansions are always unlock after buying the latest expansion.
Lastly, yes it has been meme to death but the game does have an extensive Free Trial, that is going to be further expanded in the future to include Stormblood for free, of course you will be impose limitations, you can find them here support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=5382&la=1&tag=freetrial so you can play until you can decide if the game and it's story is of your liking, or at least worthy enough to commit to a monthly subscription, you can just purchase the game and the latest expansion and it should be it, just be advice that the Free Trial version and the full version of the games are considered different games by Steam with their own independent launchers.

Everything leading up to, and including, the sad smile in it is the cinematic trailer for A Realm Reborn, called "End of an Era". "Flames of Truth" did not release until about fourteen months after the expansion, and was only revealed after the world's first clear of the raid series at the time, because it's intrinsically linked to the lore of the game world.

Something to clarify! Like you noted at the end, those dates are for expansions, yep, but between each expansion, there are major patches every few months that are consistently large and continue the story as well as adding new dungeons, raids, side-content, etc, and smaller patches between those to touch things up and add smaller content lines. The consistent ~2 year expansion cycle is generally very well liked, because of the quality of content, and because each expansion has done good work to pull the aging game engine forward.
Semi-related, but the game is also pretty light on time-limited missable content, especially to anyone trapped in the gacha treadmill. The developers have openly said that they want you to go play other games when you want to, and to come back when you see something you like. Always a relief to play an online game that isn't out to become a second job.

Just from the intro you mentioning that, it feels intimidating as an mmo with alot of content. Without prior knowledge I'd get it, but 14, like Genshin should be treated more like story arcs you're running into and a continuative narrative you're taking piece by piece at your own pace. The actual MSQ as a whole can be long but it isn't as long as you'd think, assuming you're not taking detours. You absolutely can pace yourself and play casually and more or less complete it in a surprising amount of time.

  • @guilegale8942
    @guilegale8942 Před 11 měsíci +2

If you think of each expansion as a new game in a series, it makes a lot more sense. FF14 is HEAVILY story-centric, and each expansion is a new chapter of the story. You can finish the base game and have a good time. You can play the next expansion and have a good time. And the next one, and so on and so on. There's no rush to get to the latest content, there's nothing forcing you to skip where you're currently at like so many MMOs do, you can just enjoy it like you would any other RPG.
And the story is WORTH taking your time for. It's no exaggeration to say it's my favorite Final Fantasy, period. You get so much more time with your cast of characters and your narrative compared to other games in the series, and they make GOOD use of that time to build some of the best characters I've seen in a game, period.
This is a game made by people who love what they do, and it shows.

The newest expansion dawntrail will have 2 new ones that we don't know what they are yet, but there is lots of speculation on what they will be.
Oh and there is a regular patch cycle between expansions. It's just the expansions are big updates that come out every 2 years or so. The smaller updates tie off expansions and build up towards the next, normally at like 6.3 to "finish" an expansion and then it's build up to the next. Each solid X.0 is the expansion release

Herro! While on the outside yeah a full year can seem really long but in between major expansions,(around every 4 months), there are updates adding more story, fights, and overall content! Since we are nearing the end of our current expansion our content pool will slow down a little bit but it helps add to the hype and allow peeps to play different games and take a break which the devs are super in support for! (Also the free trial just recently got expanded so you can play the base game the the two expansions!) If you have time to spend id defenitly give it a try! :D

Seeing the Main Character through each of the trailers actually smiling for the first time in ages was such a treat and I am so looking forward to Dawn Trail. To answer your Gunblade question, yes it is playable it is a tank class called Gunbreaker that becomes available at level 60 if you have the Shadowbringers expansion (you don't have to have beaten Stormblood though, being level 60 and having Shadowbringers is enough).

They've put a lot of effort into making it more "singleplayer like" kind of. A lot of the dungeons and such can be done alone with NPC support characters coming with you. It's basically an RPG game with an MMO strapped onto it, great mix of both! Really recommend giving it another go :)
Also Hironobu Sakaguchi, the father of many of our older FF games, got really into the game a while back and just couldn't stop playing it. He's called it a Final Fantasy theme park! Lots of references, lots of bringing old FF games' things into 14 whether it be a small reference or literally a class of characters we meet, among many other ways they work to make it a love letter to the franchise as a whole.

Man, those cinematics bring back so many memories! Not gonna lie, I shed a few tears watching all that. I've played through all the expansions and have leveled up a bunch of the jobs and it was and still is well worth the experience. As others have said, gunbreakers get gun blades. Pretty much everything you saw as far as the jobs that the various characters have are playable. As far as the characters you meet and get to know and love, it's not necessarily your 'party' per se (although you can use them in dungeon content as an npc party if you don't feel like using the dungeon finder to play with other players), it's a group of NPCs that are part of an organization you belong to. I don't want to say any further because I don't want to spoil anything and I wouldn't worry too much about these cinematics spoiling things either. By the time you get there you'll probably have had so much happen in between you won't really remember the few seconds of actual spoiler stuff that might of happened in each cinematic.

The game is definitely worth playing! Especially since the Free Trial is being expanded to level 70 and all of the Stormblood expansion! So that's tons of content to dig into before you even gotta pay.
Something to keep in mind is that the voice actors change once you hit 3.0 aka Heavensward. They become the voices you heard in the later trailers.
My favorite expansion is tough to choose lol. They all have things I love! Maybe Shadowbringers because it has a lot of tropes that I just eat up.

If it interests you, the story prior to A Realm Reborn, or the story of 1.0 FFXIV and its patches, is told through Louisoix Leveilleur(the brown old man) in a bonus disc video called The Waning of the Sixth Sun. It's a huge loredump that not a whole lot of players are knowledgeable of but gives context to the beginning of 2.0.

The update model to the game is 1 major expansion every 2 to 2.5 years, and smaller around 8 hour story updates (patches) every 4 months in between expansions for a total of 5 patches per expansion which in total makes them often around 50% the length of the expansions themselves counting just the main story, and they continue the major side stories of the game as well. The patches themselves are then usually split into two parts around 2 months apart, with the first half having the major side story content and the second half having minor side story content. So there's something new to do in the game every two months or so and usually that content is then enough to actually last most people for those two months

The Dragoon with the white hair is a major character in the story, and if you want to meet him as soon as possible, you should pick up the Lancer job class when you are able, get it to level 30, and advance to Dragoon.
you can start off with any job you want from the main beginner jobs, and which one you pick decides your starting city:
Pugilist (Hand to Hand melee), Thaumaturge (Offensive elemental Magic), and Gladiator (Defensive sword and shield melee) start in Ul'dah, a desert city.
Marauder (Defensive Axe melee), Arcanist (offensive non-elemental pet-based mage with light healing) and there is also a "secret" starter class of Rogue (melee, daggers, available at level 10) which start in Limsa Lominsa, an ocean/island city.
Conjurer (healing and some earth/wind magic), Archer (Ranged bow DPS), and Lancer (spear melee dps) all start in Gridania, a forest city.
Once you hit level 15 or so, and advance the main story you can freely travel to every city and change jobs whenever you want.

As for Chocobos, once you get past a certain point in the msq you will get the chance to unlock your personal chocobo. Then at level 30 there are a couple of quests in Camp Tranquil that unlock some extra features like training and combat (yes you can have your chocobo fight along side you in the field). Once you're able to get an apartment or join a Free Company that has a house and stable, you'll be able to dye your chocobo an entire range of colors which is a minigame in and of itself.
Honestly, give the game a try. I've been playing since Beta and haven't regretted it. As for favorite class? Currently it's Red Mage and Dancer. I tend to give every class a try though so everything is unlocked and is at random levels. And my favorite expansion is Shadowbringers, it's brilliant!
There's tons of things to do besides the story as well. They put the Gold Saucer in, so there's a bunch of minigames to play and the currency there can be used to buy mounts, minions, costumes, music scrolls, and hairstyles. There's Deep Dungeons that are basically roguelikes with traps and wandering monsters. Crafting and gathering are even their own classes with their own armor and skills.

One big feature of this game is that you can play all classes as the one character (unlike games like WoW where you need to make an alt character for each class you want to play.

The guy in the trailers is affectionately known as Derplander. He represents the Warrior of Light (the player character) and many of his friends in the Scions carry through the entire game, though they have grown and changed a lot throughout the expansions. I think some of the later trailers (EW especially) would be a bit hard to get into if you don't already know the characters and story. But they're all people you will meet and grow to love! Also, yes... Gunbreaker is a playable job using a gunblade! But you can only unlock it once you get a different job to level 60.

  • @Sovek86
    @Sovek86 Před 11 měsíci

Excuse the wall of text but this explains all the questions you may have regarding the trailers.
soooo... I have about 3-4K hours playing 14, however alot of that is not from the MSQ or Main Story Quests but more to doing optional content. While there are currently 4 expansions to the base game of ARR, and a 5th one arriving, its still a year out. you could play 10 hours a week doing just MSQ stuff and probably still hit 6.55 (coming janurary 2024) by the time 7.0 drops. the problem is the optional content. literally every time I'd log on and get down to doing MSQ it would be "Oh! SHINY" and go off and do that. Relic weapons, alliance raids, optional dungeons, deep dungeons, variant dungeons, gold saucer (GATE's too much fun) FATE grinding, fishing, crafting, gathering, Triple Triad, mount collection, glamor collection, decorating my little FC room (now an actual house), or just hang out with friends.
So yes, still worth playing and when 7.0 drops we're getting upgraded graphics. Also the story is not going anywhere so take your time. If you DO decide to play, and finished A Realm Reborn, before you start on post-ARR patches I highly reccomend putting up a PF and unsyncing the Binding Coils of Bahamut for the story there. Really helps explain the final Cutscene of 2.0
On to explaining the trailers. "are those the jobs in the game?" No, those are levequests, a system that was the main focus of 1.0 (the first cinematic) and were re-introduced in ARR however combat levequests were never added in 3.0 and upwards and instead were replaced with crafting/gather levequests allowing you to gain alot of gil and XP for those jobs. As to what the flying towers were, Garlean Magitek. The Garlean Empire were trying to expand and invade Eorzea in 1.0, and made further attempts in 2.0. Not airships, more like attack helicopters. As to what the OTHER floating thing was, that was the Agrius, flagship of the Garlean Empire which was used in the battle of Silvertear Skies. As to the dragon, actually the sire of Bahumut, Midgardsormr, which defended the skies of Silver Tear Lake along with a good portion of the Dravanian Horde. If you want to see Tonberries I HIGHLY suggest you pick up the optional level 50 dungeons, AND start as a Arcanist which allows you to pick up Scholar (SCH) which will allow you to get to know the lore of Tonberries in 14.
Next up is 2.0 trailer. The first portion is the Battle of Carteneau in which the Eorzean Alliance met the Garlean Empire at Carteneau in a desperate attempt to avert the 7th Umbral Calamity (the final events in 1.23b). The Garleans had actually managed to tap into the lesser moon Dalamud in an attempt to bring Eorzea to its knees. However Dalamud was actually a prison for the elder primal Bahamut, and after being imprisoned for thousands of years he was as you'd expect, very angry. Louisoix and his Circle of Knowing attempted to summon the 12 (man's God's in FFXIV) and reseal Bahamut. "Is this the kind of angst I have to look forward to?" My dear, sweet summer child.... that, was mild in terms of the emotional rollercoaster you'll go through. Just wait till you do the MSQ titled "Thou Must Live, Die, and Know" and the events after that... Most streamers are in tears by the end of it. And yes, the Summons (Primals) are NOT your friends... well... Susano is, kinda. "Playable when?" HAHA!, No... thats Odin, extremely difficult to kill and has been known to wipe multiple parties who attempt to take him down.
Now on to 3.0. Yes, HEAVY spoilers in the aftermath of finishing the final quest of 2.55. As to the Warrior of Light, YOU are the Warrior of Light, and in fact the devs dont adress players as "players" or "fans" but instead the title of "Warriors of Light". You make your way to the city state of Ishgard after the events of 2.55 (I cannot say more as thats spoilers) and while there try and put a stop to the Dragonsong War. Yes, the person in the airship was Cid Garlond. He doesnt get much love in the MSQ but you'll see him alot in the optional raid content patches. As to the music, FFXIV has probably the best soundtrack of any game out there, and most of it is done by Soken. Soken is a musical genius and his much loved by the FFXIV community. The others you saw were in fact dragoons and the person representing you (the guy you keep seeing) can be seen wearing the armor you get doing your DRG job quests in HW, which is absolutely stunning and probably the main reason I want to level the job.
On to 4.0 Stormblood. You'll often hear people refer to this expansion as the worst of the game, Dont listen to them. Approach this expansion with an open mind and it can EASILY become your favorite. The trials are absolutely STUNNING, with fun mechanics (Susano comes to mind), dungeons are awesome, the music is some of the best in the game for me, and I LOVE Kugane (the second portion of the trailer). Each expansion opens up the map more and more, with new places to go. Stormblood actually has 2 new places as does Endwalker. The first portion allows you to travel further east to the region of Gyr Abania, and the second region of Doma (china/asia stand in). Yes they do have an underwater region, the part you saw was the Ruby Sea and the StB expansion allows you to swim below the water surface of several region. StB actually introduce the Samurai job in the game, along with another FF staple, the Red Mage. both are very fun jobs. And yes, Red Mage is very much like the FF1 version, has access to both black and white magic, so you can throw fire around while also throwing out a cure, or mainly, rezzes. Its got the nickname of Rez Mage due to the jobs main mechanic. Very fun.
SHADOWBRINGERS!!!. The story telling in this one and Endwalker ARE top notch, and thats mainly due to a certain someone with the name of Ishikawa getting promoted to head of writing the plot for the two expansions instead of parts of HW, StB and a few job quests. The recent Fanfest chat dubbed her as their queen BECAUSE of her storytelling. As to what that first thing was, Gremiln. Dont see them much but theres one Fate in Lakeland that will easily kill you if you decide to solo that fate and rush in guns blazing. The second thing was a Sin Eater, but I suspect this is actually a Light Warden, very nasty pieces of work. When you do Tesleen's portion of the MSQ you will see exactly why. Looks like an angel, is very much NOT! As to the voice acting. ARR 2.0 MSQ voice acting is... bad, very very bad. Its actually a blessing that most of the MSQ doesnt have much. HW actually got an entirely new cast of voice actors which are much better and each expansion has more and more voice acting in it. Yes, that was a gunblade, ShB introduced 2 new jobs, Gunbreaker and Dancer.
Endwalker, where we currently are at and eagerly awaiting 6.5. The things that Alphinaud had were nouliths, Sage's main weapon. This expac debuted both the Sage and Reaper jobs to FFXIV. As to the Dragoon with V'tra, thats Estinien, the Azure Dragoon. You'll meet him in ARR if you do the DRG job quests, or if not, HW as part of the MSQ. Alot of people like him. Theres also a rather comedic moment with him when he mistakes Alisaie for Alphinaud in Shadowbringers. If you want the gunblades you will need to own Shadowbringers expansion, AND have a Disciple of War/Magic job at level 60, and your role in Duties will be as a tank. YHou can pick up the job in Gridania IIRC near the main Aetheryte.
We havnt had to wait terribly long really. EW launched December 3rd (interestingly, my birthday) for pre-order players, and non-preorder players got start playing on the 7th (which oddly enough is the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor). So really its more 2 1/2 years, I started playing in July of 2021 and didnt catch up and finish EW until February/March of 2022. Since then we've gotten new patches and MSQ every 4 months, which adds new raids, content, treasure maps, glamors, relics ect ect on top of the new MSQ quests. FFXIV is very much a theme-park MMO. Completing the MSQ will unlock new attractions and the further you get, the more attractions you can experience, but all side content is OPTIONAL. if you strictly want ot play the story, you can and dont have to feel bad. You'll wait for new content for a while have the next patches MSQ completed in a day or two, but the post patch content is mostly adding in side content to explore.
As to my favorite expansion? Thats really hard to pin down. ShB and EW were epic in the storytelling but StB has my favorite job (Red Mage), my favorite zones and the BEST patch quests in the game, along with the music.

Gunbreaker is a tank job in the game that uses the gunblade. The way things work in FFXIV is you start off picking one of the base classes (gladiator, marauder, lancer, pugilist, rogue, archer, thaumaturge, arcanist and conjurer). You level them up to 30 where you pick your job which is an advanced version of your class. The base jobs are (Paladin, Warrior, Dragoon, Monk, Ninja, Bard, Black Mage, Scholar, Summoner and White Mage. The base jobs can only be objtained from leveling up its respective class. The jobs that were added in the expansion dont require a specific class, you just have to have one leveled up to 30 and have completed the Main Story Quest for A Realm Reborn. Heavansward added Machinist, Dark Knight and Astrologian, Stormblood added Samurai and Red Mage, Shadowbringers added Gunbreaker and Dancer, Endwalker added Sage and Reaper. It is unknown at this time what will be added in Dawntrail but there are speculations on which jobs will be added.

    To respond in order:
The classes shown and showcased by the Warrior of Light (also the player placeholder in the trailers) in these trailers are as follows:
Archer (1st trailer, also referenced in Shadowbringers and Endwalker), Warrior (ARR and Flames of Truth), Dragoon (Heavensward), Monk (Stormblood), Samurai (Also Stormblood), Dark Knight (Shadowbringers), Paladin (Endwalker), Unknown (Dawntrail).
Is Final Fantasy XIV worth play? In my personal experience, it's been the most worthwhile game I've ever played, but it's up to the player to decide. It starts slow, but that slow burn culminates in some of the most amazing storytelling I've ever experienced, and it's still ongoing.
Yes, there are Tonberries. There's also a Tonberry outfit in the cash shop that was released in one of the seasonal event this year!
Note: Flames of Truth is NOT a trailer, but a spoiler without context! A Realm Reborn's actual Trailer is mostly known as ARR trailer (A New Beginning) or Answers, the song that plays!

That little gremlin is irrelevant, but the words he speaks are not.
The lyrics lend some context in this trailer: 'The Road that we walked is Lost in the Flood. Here proud angels bathe in their wages of blood.'
The voice acting had 0 directions outside of what the actors could make from 'Focus Diction for our non-English-speaking players' in A Realm Reborn, but get better and change hands in Heavensward and beyond.
Hello to Dante from the Devil May Cry series of the Gunbreaker class! Also, say hello to the release of Viera and Dancer class!

Bruh, you'll love playing FF14 if you're interested in trying it out. It has the best story & community out of any MMO. You can be every single class/job on 1 character alone, including a crafter.
If you need tips on certain things, you can join a novice chat, which are ppl consisting of new, returning & veteran players that'll help you with everything in the game. I'm not even scratching the surface as to what this game has to offer like Hunts, treasure hunting, playing music, etc.
The best part is that you can play everything at your own pace & the devs encourage that you take a break if you're feeling burned out. Then you can come back with open arms & resume your journey as the Warrior of Light.

There’s generally a new expansion ever 2-3 years but to keep us happy during that time every 6 months they do mini releases to add a little more quests and dungeons and such. The gun blade is playable but you have to reach a certain level and you have to own the expansion it’s introduced in.
