- Video taken on a volcano eruption tour in Iceland. Iceland Mountain Guides and Iceland Rovers are taking small tours of clients to the eruption on Fimmvörðuháls by the Eyjafjallajökull Glacier.
Here, the landscape changes every day - see the new mountain formations, hear the blast, see us throw snowballs into lava!
For more information about the eruption and our tours visit www.icelandrovers.is/ and www.mountainguides.is/
Leiðsögumenn frá Íslenskum Fjallaleiðsögumenn fóru með hóp að skoða eldgosið á Fimmvörðuhálsi. Ferðir eru farnar alla daga að gosstöðvunum. Nánari upplýsingar um eldgosið og ferðir þangað eru á vef okkar www.fjallaleidsogumenn.is/
Ican imagine how crowded it will get in Iceland this summer !
@TheReisetante Well crowded and not crowded it's a big country with 103.000 kilometers but only 319.000 people so there is plenty of space to go around. But now is definitely the time to visit Iceland.
Frábært!
what a beautiful scene
Nice! I like the sounds at 32s and throwing snowballs at 58s.
How close can you get to the volcano? How do you get there???
Thank's for the comments. Yes it's an amazing sight. You can get quite close to it in some places. The eruption is going on in a very hilly area so it's easy to get great views of the eruption from the top of hills around it.
Ok, that is a first for me. I've never seen anyone throwing snowballs at a volcano or lava before. I'm guessing that you won't put it out.
@bluebalute No there is no chance you'll put it out with a snowball. However in the 1973 eruption on the island of Heimaey, the villagers of Vestmannaeyjar Town managed to steer the lava flow away from some houses by pumping cold seawater onto the lava flow. So maybe... if you get a whole lot of snowballs.
@syafiqpilot Yes is this is the first eruption in Iceland. The eruption on Fimmvörðuháls. The second eruption is larger and still ongoing. It is a few kilometers away from this one.
@GoGravity You can get quite close to the eruption. How close varies greatly with different conditions. On one of our eruption tours you are most likely able to get within about one kilometer from the eruption. Going closer than that can be dangerous as the area around the eruption has a thick layer of snow. Snow being melted by molten lava can cause explosions of steam and in some cases the lava may be creating a tunnel under the snow creating a void you may fall in.

:))
trick vid dude, my gal wants to see lava, crystal ball says we're in iceland sometime before we die x
ละลายน้ำแล้วทำอะไรไม่ได้
How long was that eruption?
@IcelandicMtGuide :) Thank you for the reply and yes, I know that you wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell of putting it out with a snowball. (snowball's chance in hell=English expression)
I have seen film footage of the incident you refer to with creating a berm or barrier by watering down one side of the lava flow. Good thinking on someone's part.
this is on fimmvörðuháls not in the glacier
OMG COOL !!!!!!!!!!!!! :-) :-) :-) :-)! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) love that
Why are icelandic words and names impossible to pronounce?
They aren't if you know how to pronunciate the vowells.
