Ellen, I think you’re 11 now, don’t get distracted by ‘slapping’ and stuff. Jaco Pastorius is the last stop off point for bass. Take your time, I never attempted this stuff til I was about 18. But please remember that’s where you’re going. That’s a huge 5 string contra bass you’ve got there but think about a simple Fender 4 string, baby steps. But with Jaco Pastorius the easiest stuff is actually the hardest. Try ‘River People’ with Weather Report, it’s brutal. But you’re way ahead, just enjoy listening to Jaco Pastorius and don’t be too hard on yourself if you can’t play it yet. I’m an ageing bass player, I’ve spent most of my life calling Jaco a motherfucker for being that good!
