    This is a very "classical" CZcamsr/small-filmmaker gear video. It's slick and informative. I miss videos like this one, which are becoming rarer. The traditional "trusted" names aren't doing this kind of product review as much as they used to, but there's still a need. Please keep up the good work.

    We have 4 Amaran 200D heads, my only real complaint is that all the control knobs have broken off, mostly during transport. The unit remains operational without the knob but it doesn't look very pro. We transport all 4 lights, power blocks and leads in 1 old Bowens rolling case. Easily carried as the equipment is such light-weight. The lights are fantastic, just need 1 unit that's twice as bright for our purposes.
    Thanks for a great review. Very clear, concise and we'll presented.

    Take the cardboard box from the Amaran go to a thrift shop find a three dollar duffle bag that the box will fit into... then you can remove or fold back the cardboard flaps, and keep the foam inserts... And you have a ridiculously cheap soft sided case for the light fixture with a few extra pockets to boot.
    The trick is just finding the right size duffle bag

    Since version 3 on the smallrig u can triple click the reset button(RC220D) and go into silent mode. With it the fan is always off and the output is reduced. Perfect when u need a quiet environment!
    normal mode is now with the fan always turned on and more silent than before. (no more turning on and off because of temperature easy to get rid in post if picked up by mic). I think this is the best solution in the case of the fan here!

    You’ve also got the ‘eco system’ with Amaran, everything can be operated from the 1 app, with multiple different lights. And while smallrig are bringing more and more out, Amaran and Apature have a good range to pick from as it stands. I’m a sucker for trying to keep brand specific with my tools haha

    I have had both these lights for a while now and the build quility of the smallrig seems to be much better, the knobs on the Amaran broke of after a couple of days of use. The smallrig bag is awesome and actually fits both lights and their respective adapters and bowens reflectors. Powering the Smallrig with V mount is an absolute win over the Amaran form me. Go with the Smallig.

    Video idea maybe, but lots of streamers already use elgato style flat LED panels… what are the differences with these softbox style lights? I want to move away from game streams to actual content… I know I could try to use my existing panels, but I rather leave them on my game streaming desk & get a dedicated talking head setup/shot. • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  Před 2 lety

      I’ve had that video idea on my list for a while now actually! The biggest difference is flexibility. With these lights I can make them soft or hard using modifiers. With the panels you’re more stuck with what you’ve got.

    @REMY.C. Před 2 lety +1

    Very nice comparison. Thanks for it.
    I like the bi color lights because that 5600k white light really bothers me and feel unnatural but I went for the latter one because lights are cheaper and brighter when compared to the bi ones especially for entry levels.
    I bought this week lights from the Jinbei brand that has been tested by one of your fellow CZcamsrs and I must say I compared a lot of models and brands and finally went for them for the price/quality. For 700€/$ I got a 200+W, a 60+W, many light modifiers including huge quick octabox, plus few good lighstands and holders. No brand comes near that.

      Hi @R. C. could you tell us how was your experience with the fan noise please?

    • @REMY.C.
      @REMY.C. Před rokem +1

      @@hcrespo3 Absolutely. So the fan noise is in my opinion pretty high volume on the 60W version and more audible because it's a higher pitch. On the 200W it's a bit lower volume and more of a lower pitch noise. Problem is I have no choice than put my lights close to what I'm filming (1m and 2m) and my RØDE Videomic definitely picks up the noise.
      So I wouldn't recommend those lights to someone who needs absolute silence.
      But, and it's a positive thing, I'm pretty handy with electronics so I'm gonna definitely disassemble the lights and mod them with silent fans for computers. Pretty sure it's gonna work and won't cost a lot. It's gonna definitely cost way less than buying high end silent lights. I'm also going to mod my portable induction cooktop with silent fans so I can capture food sounds.
      Overall, lights are great, quality is fair, a bit less on the 60w version, speed light modifiers are just awesome and very fast to setup, light is consistent and very powerful on the 200W (I didn't exceed 15% for my low key video style), app is great on the 200W, 60W not compatible but the remote is like 20 box, stands are very okay for the price but not high quality.

(I think its better to run a 350 at 60% than always maxing out your gear, or to put it different I like to be at 60% so I chose this setting over to be just limited. But maybe a 450W is even to bright at 1% more noisy etc....I know you dont have a glas sphere and cant tell me what to do, but I would highly appreciare youre feedback. The purpose is very diverse. Smallrig mount is not a true bowen.. you can't add some modifier like spotlight, fresnel,..
    You will be almost limited to smallrig accessories

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  Před 2 lety

      I think maybe the scope of what video lights typically cost isn’t kept in mind when calling these “high dollar lights”. Comparable powered lights can go for closer to $1500, $2000, even more depending on build, brand etc… believe me, I bought an aputure 300d ii a few years ago and the 200d basically does the same job for 1/3 the price or less.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  Před 2 lety

      Just to be clear, I totally get where you’re coming from. It’s just interesting how we all see the words “bang for buck” or “budget” as something different. I look at the $2500 lights that I want and think of the $350 lights as such a great deal! Whereas if all you’ve been looking at are cheap lower quality or diy rigs on amazon, these might look expensive.

    • @robertfontaine3650
      @robertfontaine3650 Před 2 lety

      @@dunnadidit The title "Best Bang for your Buck for CZcams Videos?" is not the same as "Best Bang for your Buck for a Professional Studio." We don't look at $2500 lights for a CZcams video and nor should anyone who isn't paying their mortgage with CZcams videos.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  Před 2 lety +1

      I think you’d be surprised. I bought an aputure 120d before I was full time CZcams and it cost double what these do. And I know I’m not alone because the 120d with an aputure lightdome was a HUGELY popular setup amongst CZcamsrs. So I don’t think the “we” that you speak of is as universal as you believe. I never said that these were the cheapest option, just that I thought that they were the best bang for buck, which includes expandability, flexibility, power, etc. Obviously everyone’s budget is different and you can get the job done with gear that’s cheaper for sure. But I know plenty of people who are getting into CZcams and understand the value of investing in quality lights. And luckily, options like this exist now so that the 120d and 300d aren’t the only things available.
