I have a challenge for you both! Kevin gets all the supplies he wants and all the time he needs to make and decorate a specific cake that Laurie chooses, without Laurie seeing his work. Then compare Kevin's to a 1-star bakery's attempt at the same cake and see if Laurie can tell which is which. P.S. Laurie won but GREAT job Kevin! 🙂
My guess is that INSTANTLY she will be able to tell which is Kevin's, because it will always be better! He will have learned a lot about special decorating techniques from watching Laurie. He will at least know to support his structures properly.

@@TheIcingArtist Kevin's cake was good for someone with zero experience. But I felt it was *WAY* too busy with the massive amount of flowers he used. Less would have been more, but apart from that he didn’t do to badly. Unfortunately because of the flowers I have to award my vote to Laurie for this competition.

I actually love the motion of Kevin's fowers, and the fact they go down and around the cake, as well as up, give it a look of seeming more full and like a branch. I have neber really seen that look but i much prefer it! And i feel if he got that deeper, richer, royal green he wanted, with the gold and look of the flowers it would have looked high class and beautiful!
I think if he had gotten the green he wanted - Kevin's cake would have have been BOMB AF - but it looks GREAT anyway. I think concept wise, I defininattly prefer Kevin's, but they both looks AMAZING.
While I don't think they suit the cake, I actually really love what Kevin did with his flowers. I think it would have worked with a different, less green cake.

It's easy to get complacent about how talented Laurie is because we see her all the time. This was a fun reminder about how much time, training, and talent it takes to be that good. Kevin did amaziiingggly for someone whose main training has been watching his wife :D please more! you two are a fun duo
His flower placement is very spot on👍🏼 I can see how a richer green would really make his cake pop!
I would love to see Laurie taking Kevin's cake idea and riffing off it. There is a connection between the flowers and the hexagons - I presume Kevin was thinking of honeycomb. So I could see Laurie changing up the colour and adding some bees, etc.

I always feel like I know what to do and how to do it based off all the baking shows and decoration inspiration but then ACTUALLY doing it is completely different! You both did great, what a fun idea!!

I certainly missed your videos. Seems like you’ve been gone for forever. This was fun to watch. Kevin, you did a great job. Laurie, your creations are always beautiful. You’re both G.O.A.T.s in different categories ~ Kevin your category is “Newbie” and Laurie yours is “Professional “. I hope you do another competition. I think Kevin should decorate a cake with Laurie verbally guiding him only. I think the fans should vote on what Kevin would decorate. Make a list of 3-5 different options in community tab. Of course the option with highest vote will be the cake Kevin decorates. Maybe do this for Easter (but I wouldn’t want to wait that long to watch the video lol).

I'm so glad you're back! I think Kevin's turned out great for the first cake he's decorated! I would have cut out the chocolate and painted the hexagon shapes gold then arranged them to look like honeycomb but using the background looked good too 😀

Kevin's cake concept was awesome! I think it would've looked even better if he had also put the hexagons he had cut out around the main piece of chocolate. I think if there was the time/resources some little bees on the flowers would be awesome too. Still, incredible work, especially for a first attempt and under such a strict time limit.
The flowers ended up looking a bit 'tacked on' and I think Laurie's cake would've looked better without them, or with a bit fewer of them. But the geode itself looked amazing!

Awww, loved this! So happy to see your vid pop up on my screen this morning. :-) I really enjoyed the paper bags! The random ‘mystery ingredients’ added fun limitations to the game. That could work in solo vids too. Loved seeing Kevin tho… you can tell he learned a lot from just watching all this time! Bonus points for the sped up chipmunk editing too.
Both of their cakes came out great! Kevin’s was a little better than I was expecting. Using that chocolate was a bold move for his first time decorating a cake. They definitely need to make more of these videos!

I loved how supportive you both were of each other but still competitive.
Kevin really reminded me of myself whenever I'm doing something I'm really invested in or trying really hard to get right, I go in with so much confidence then after every choice I'm like 'no that was a bad choice why did I do that' and doubt what I've done 😂.
I'd love to see you both do some more videos like this or even videos were you have to work together, maybe like you do something then Kevin has to do something. Love your videos whatever they are and look forward to more 🥰

Your bickering about the goat vs old goat reminded me of when my mom and I went out for lunch with my grandmother. We got a doggy bag because we couldn't finish it, and as my mom was standing up she said "don't forget the bag" so I reached over and grabbed my grandmother. I love the geode without the gold. I LOVE gold and add it to everything I craft but I always think it makes cake geodes look like something you’d buy at a tacky tourist shop. The added crystal sugar is stunning especially where you tossed it around the cake.
