The final touch - the stretching after painting, and that tip with the window glass - it quite a revelation to me. I always see people recomending stretching as a first step ( which I've tried and done, without getting the point of it because I'd get buckled paper anyway). Beautiful process to watch. Amazing technique and precision. Hats off! ❤

Biological and medical illustration will always supercede photography with its exquisite sensitivity and detail...art meets science. That particular specimen of a Norfolk Island Pine is exquisite. If you're ever in San Francisco's Castro district there is a noble Norfolk within view of the Castro Muni Station if you're curious to see one in person

Sadly, many people don’t realise they are doing it. When a ‘suggested’ video pops up in their feed, they tap Not Interested, are asked Why, and tap I Don’t Like The Video, which then applies a thumbs down. They do it thinking it will filter away similar videos, or those on the same topic, from their feed. It’s only a couple/three years since YT took away the Topic options, and this is the result - unwarranted thumbs down ☹️

I believe the way an artist paints really mirrors that artist's personality, I applaud this lady who has such a diligent and an elegant way of working, that sort of art requires considerable amount of patience and as someone who loves to paint with the moment rather than taking long times to plan out my piece I'm thoroughly impressed.
I thrive to be more diligent the way I work and this has inspired me to work for that goal even more.

That is a very nice comment. I am a botanical illustrator and paint in a very detailed way. I have received comments over the years that I should “loosen up”. as if this style of painting is somehow undesirable. Every one has their own style and what is tight for them.

Interesting...I wonder why she doesn't wet and stretch paper, and tape it down, before painting. Probably it changes distribution of sizing in paper, so it doesn't take paint exactly as it would without pre-stretching. Probably wouldn't make a huge difference...but a technical artist would notice. Anybody have the answer?

I can't imagine a more fun job-plants and painting...although I guess really I'd probably have more fun growing them which is what I'm more passionate about, but even to have one hundredth of her skill would make some nice little paintings for my walls. I'd love to paint new species and awarded plants and do commissions for people who wanted a painting of one of their plants and stuff.

Wonderful! Great video, thank you. I would be so worried at the stretching of the paper after all that work has been done. I have never seen it done "afterwards". I guess the watercolors don't bleed if you are putting water on the back. I just would be so scared to loose all that work. But it obviously works for you. I will have to try it. I never thought to use my window to "stretch" my paper on. Very interesting video. Hugs!

Erin the great thing about human beings, in this case, our eyes is: the human eye is still far superior to a camera lens. We are also able to view a flower from many angles, while painting it and thus we can bring everything into focus at once. Which a camera cannot yet do...not even the best of them!
