If you’re really on a budget and want to dress well you need two things: a thrift store and a tailor.
Thrift store in an affluent area can be a goldmine
I just bought a legit lacoste polo for 2$ at a thrift shop
This is literally what I do
ebay and a tailor
Literally what I do also. Love it.
“Shop at the thrift store” is such a great hack. I live in Chicago and when I was going through a divorce and was completely broke, I went to a Salvation Army in my neighborhood. I got an entire winter wardrobe for about $75. I’m talking cashmere sweaters that looked like they had never been worn, high end custom shirts that had been tailored and actually fit me quite well, etc. I’m not afraid to say it: I shop there a lot still and I can change my look regularly for a drop in the bucket and when my closet gets too full, I just take some items that I don’t want any more and donate them back. 👍
I love thrift store shopping. I typically wear preppy/Ivy League-style clothes and find Ralf Lauren, Brooks Brothers, JCrew, and similar brand shirts, sweaters, chinos, and shorts at the stores in my area. I even found a nice fitting made-in-the-USA blazer a couple of months ago. Last time out, I bought a Lacoste quarter zip sweater that looks brand new. As Antonio says, you must be patient and look for deals where you can find them. Thrifting has been my way of saving a ton of money while still building a fantastic wardrobe.
I just dropped 5k on a Tom Ford tuxedo
@@Getstr8cashBragging about your high spending is just vulgar and gauche. It doesn't make you sound impressive
That’s awesome!! Way to go giving back into the system that helps you out too!!
@@Getstr8cash I dropped $80 on an original Calvin Klein suit ($5k value) which was worn once by a model at a fashion show in SF and then donated. When I gained weight and it no longer fit me, I donated it to Goodwill. I get a lot of my clothes from estate liquidations of millionaires and from thrift stores, but sometimes hit the discount rack. I know my way around a sewing machine, so most of my wardrobe is bespoke.
Regarding tip #7. Someone I used to work with said this to me and I've never forgotten it. "If you don't ask, the answer is always no."
Antonio, your interchangeable wardrobe concept is SPOT ON!!! Cleaned out and paired down my wardrobe and I actually have more outfits than I've ever had...😂
As a mechanic and former shop owner, he's correct. Tire companies have deals often and you can save purchasing during these times.
Great video
I have about 3k worth of suits but “only” paid a little over 1k, by buying at the right time. Same with ties, paid 300€ for 900€ worth. Time is key and quality is more important than quantity
Dude, I love your channel. And some of us with kids need cheap alternative look good. I appreciate this video.
When I used to shop at brick-and-mortar retail stores, I positioned myself as a "good customer" and was notified in advance when the sales would start. That helped. As an industry insider (kinda), I also built strong relationships with menswear reps and was able to purchase their samples at the season's end (I am a 40R and a Size Medium; typically, those were the sizes in the portfolio). And to your point, Antonio, it pays to buy off-season. I have no problem picking up a chunky sweater in the middle of summer or a linen camp shirt in winter.
Nowadays, I'm exclusively an online shopper and regularly lean into eBay and a few other menswear curation sites that often run sales. When you build a track record with certain sellers, they tend to accept your best offers. I've been able to buy pieces from my favorite brands at anywhere from 20% to 60% off retail rates. I also do business with a few merchants around the globe who periodically offer deep discounts.
i actually go op shopping (thrift shopping) all the time, and a local store had a huge influx of genuine leather motorcycle jackets and vests. that exact same night, i was watching the news and saw that a local biker club had a member pass away. i felt so bad but also so thankful for getting a $130 vest for $40.
One thing that helps me is working for a high end retailers corporate office. Sometimes they will have employee sales where I can get $1000 worth of clothes for about $50
I'd been wearing Bruno's before I started buying nicer shoes from Beckett, and Cobbler Union. However, Bruno's aren't bad at all. I had a really nice cap toe loafer (which you almost never see) that lasted years. I wore down the heels on those shoes but the uppers were fine. They sadly don't make that model anymore.
I've been wearing Bruno Marc footwear for about 4 years now, and I havent had any issues with any of them, they're a great deal
Good advice. Patience helps
Lord knows Bruno Marc is my go to!! Great video as always!
Macy's has frequent discounts online, especially on the weekends.
Also if you're in the DMV area there are alot of places with government employee/contractor discounts with your CAC card
Great advice!
proud to say i have 4 pairs of bespoke suits.
I haven’t paid full price for clothing in a few years now. I put what I like into my favourites tab and then when they go on sale I get an email letting me know. I am also lucky as a frequent visitor to my favourite store that if I miss a sale the store manager will back date it to the sale price if I am within a week.
Awesome vid Antonio! I actually used the gift card trick before and it totally works.
Great advice! I've used one of these tactics successfully.
I was shopping for some nicer pants at a chain dept store. I checked the website of the company that makes the pants and they were having a 50% sale! Was able to get several colors ordering online.
6:20 Shouts out JC Penney, lol I was at their Southridge location last weekend doing shopping as well.
Just received a job as a banker and hence why I found your channel. Thank you so much for all these tips!
Good tips thank you 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Outlet stores are my favorite! Plus, I can stack lots of discount making the price unbelievable
Some workplaces give out discount cards for places that they work with (for example the phone company that services them)
Thrift shops, if frequented can yield suits and sports jackets at a fraction of the original price. From my experience, if it doesn't fit don't buy it no matter how valuable it is. If it's worth getting taylor, buy it or think twice!
1:25 hahaha I just made that mistake, it's only one size bigger, but I couldn't resist 😅
I'm not sure if you covered this in a previous video but do you know a way to repair moth holes? I have a vintage 1960s brooks brothers 3 piece suit and discovered it has moth holes on the sleeve when I took it out of storage to wear since I lost some weight. It was one of my favorite suits so I really hope it can be saved.
Crushed it again, hit like for the wisdom dropped in the first 60 secs
I bought a Goatskin suede leather blazer by Ralph Lauren a month ago and it was £1,200 the most I've spent on a piece of clothing ever. The only other item that comes close was a Mountain Equipment goretex jacket on sale for £300-400. And 2 weeks later Ralph Lauren had their summer sale, now I got a little bit lucky as the leather jacket had 2 colours, one I loved and one I hated. The one I hated was 45% off for about £650 but the one I bought was still full price. I bought it for full price as soon as I saw it because they only had 2 left in my size. I bought a cardigan from them in the sale a week ago for £175 instead of £350 and I love it, and while I was there I made sure to sign up to their mailing list so I get notified of any future sales.
Great advice! I just had it happen to me. I bought a backpack from beckett and simonen, and a dopp kit to match my weekender bag. Two days after receiving my order the backpack went on sale for 30% off. I contacted them and they credited my credit card for $90.00!!! You have to ask! I’ve also had this happen with retailers, especially Banana Republic. They will give you the credit if you ask, otherwise return everything and buy it back at the sales price! 😮
When you go to medical provider, ask them how much will you be charged if the claim is not sent to you health insurance company. Its cheaper a lot of times.
Thrift stores are a godsend
My cousin like this one store. I found it to be more expensive, than my favorite men's store. I bought a Hart, Shaffer, and Marx suit for $400. It was originally priced $650. It was on sale for $450, but I was a steady customer, so I got an extra $50 off it. My cousin's store had it on sale for $700.
ID on your black shacket please.
You want discounts on travel? Get a AAA membership. Typically 10-20% rental cars at Hertz, discounts on hotels and some restaurants.
what's the name of the opening soundtrack
Is that a Wolverine comic book on your rack!?
You mentioned Disneyland in a money saving video 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂Lol
Makes a whole video about saving money. Opens up with taking his car to a mechanic to change a light bulb 😂
Antonio, I know you don't like drivers, but I wear Bruno's drivers all the time in summer. I wouldn't spend a lot on actual hand sewn, leather drivers because I always wear out the outer corner of the heel quickly. I don't want to spend $100 plus on something that I'm going to immediately start destroying and it can't be repaired easily if at all.
If you're in certain unions or professions, lots of stores give discounts. Being teachers has gotten my wife and I lots of discounts. Which we need, because...well, we're teachers.
My magic words: Hi, I'm a shareholder. 😆🤭😁
Most of us buy at Wal-Mart!!
these days, groceries are cost 20 to 40 dollars more than expected.
10:26 WTH!?
Thank goodness that there’s Ross, Marshall’s, Outlet Malls!
Most of my clothes is from there
I don't need credit cards!! My credit is negative, so I don't have problems.
Senior's discounts. Don't worry, you'll get there someday.
How do I wear a cowboy hat in non-cowboy areas? I am in LA and work in the city. We got hot summer heat now, but my coworkers laugh when I wear my cowboy hat to work even though I am Texan and it’s normal to wear cowboy hats indoors.
Own the look man. People can laugh at the same thing only a limited number of times. You'll notice after a while, they'll recognize it as your signature style.
I live on the other side of the world from you temperatures goes above 100°F easily. Most people here don't wear suits on a daily basis. I just switched from 3 piece to 2 piece for the summer. Took a week for the people to adjust to it and then the same compliments started to come back as I got in the winters.
That's a long way to say, it works out if you stick to it and own it.
@@utkarshchourasiya5309 thanks brother! 🙏🏻
Question.... In Texas, do people outside the ag community wear cowboy hats too?
I gotta say, it makes me laugh when i see city boys dressing themselves western. They inevitably end up looking like they are wearing a costume. Lol 😂
You could go with a Panama hat. You can beat the heat without the cowboy hat. But if you like the cowboy look, just own it. You’ll stand out in LA.
I never wear suit or "chic" cloth not because I can't buy it but because I am broke and I thought what's the point to look successful while I am not. I thought and I still think I would look stupid when people find out my job. Feel free to convince me otherwise.
us Arabs always ask for sale day lol
Make a video on style factor for bald men in society. Bald men are usually looked down upon as compared to men with hair. Help the population of men who have gone bald to look wanted and desired by making a video on them.
Just a suggestion...
Two words....Salvation army
Dont try and be someone who you aren't gentlemen. Everyone will know and you will come off as unauthentic and try hard.
Nar not the Bruno
"A small leak can sink a great ship" Too soon!
Unfortunately I could never buy a pair of shoes for 1 or 2 seasons. Bad for the sole and the environment.
NO! Not you too! What's with the plastic shoes?
inexpensive daily wears, its fine. its not something you should match with your best dress though
Nowadays even if I was rich I would NOT want to look rich.
The 5 finger discount
One must have very low self esteem and care too much about other people's opinions if one wants to look rich.
That is your business.Just wear some rags.
@@anotheryoutubeaccount5259 I am literally self-employed lol.
So, if you can take a little good-natured ribbing, I think you glossed over the fact that on a channel dedicated to style, that you admitted to driving a minivan 🚙😴⚽️
C’mon, dude, you’re talking about spending hundreds of dollars on clothes and then you talk about second hand stores…
I don’t know much about us culture, but I would rather buy 5 brand new shirts than 20 used ones (who can tell what kind of fungi or odours have been in other peoples shoes? One good pair gets you 5 - maybe 10 years and I don’t think us people don’t have 4-500€ to get a good shoes - that’s the cost of 5 pairs, spread over 5 years - you make 12€/h, that’s 2-3 minutes a day for brand new, nice, good shoes).
