My dad sent me songs when he was drunk. Music is how he communicated and connected, with others and with himself. I got that from him. The link to this song was one of the last messages he ever sent me. Southern Comfort and a stash in my back pocket pretty much sums me up in a nutshell haha. I cry every time I hear this one. Here's to you, dad. 💗🥂
Todd has some great songs but this is his masterpiece in my opinion. Great tribute to his friend. I get a lot of joy from his stories and humor. His playing is great too. Under rated as a guitar player.
just read todd's book (recommended, btw), I remember skip when he ran sound at the radio cafe. and yes, he did always heckle us all to "play a train song".
my son is eleven and autistic and the absolute best thing I have ever been a part of. he has trouble communicating, but has perfect pitch (no shit, for real) one of the most beautiful things that he does is by inserting movie/tv/music quotes into a conversation, and he does this so flawlessly that anyone who doesn't know him, just thinks he's a super witty kid, who always has some well known quote in response to anything anyone says to him, (the reason I mentioned his perfect pitch is because he delivers said quotes, quips in absolute dead on impersonation, from king fu panda to jack Nicholson to whomever) so you may have figured out where this is going, not too long ago, I overheard him reply to his step mom when she asked him to take out his trash,.... yep, "aww, I don't have to go into town for this, do I man?" I promptly died from hysterical laughter. cheers.
@@scottdenney6475 not sure why CZcams just now decided to notify me about this until now, but that's a great story! LOL. All the best to you and yours in these crazy times. These "train songs" help me lighten my load after a long day at work. Cheers!
The really impressive part of this clip is how great it sounds even though he's patiently signaling to get more monitor/ less instrument volume... That kind of shit makes it hard to deliver a performance like this. TS is the shit
this songs just so damn good, had to do a version myself ;), check it let me know what ya think, tried to go for a train sound in the strumming pattern, does it work ?
You tube sucks ass....Todd snider does not...tired of vevo and their weird letters from too many comments...we make you, you dont make us.....Todd rocks ...YT and vevo needs to part company...when are you comin' to dayton Oh. Todd ? seen ya in 2003....great....you remind me of John Prine.....

Fantastic!
A Milwaukee Road video about the shutdown of a dying transcontinental railroad by Blair Koositra brought me here. Video is on Vimeo.
Awsome!!!!
Todd was clearly pissed of at the sound man. 4 times he tried to get him to turn up the vocal monitors. What a talent!
