1.) Aim to Maintain Balance in a Week
A good sub-rule to this (and easier to remember in general) is the phrase “Pick One.” My sisters and I (there are 3 of us) all struggle with intermittent ADHD type motivation and anhedonia, so quite often one of us will decide we are going to do everything we want to get done all at one. i.e. finish knitting that blanket, clean the whole house, redo our resume, clean under the bed, deep clean the fridge, go for a hike, etc etc... and before you know it it’s 10:30pm and we haven’t made it through even half of our mountainous list. Then we feel sad and like we failed AGAIN. SO - us sisters have adopted a new mantra to help us individually - “PICK ONE.” Lists are great, but pick ONE thing on your list a day and worry about that one thing only. Then if you get that one thing done and still feel like doing more, great! If not, that’s ok too. Many little steps add up to miles and miles behind you. Pick one and don’t worry about the rest. You will get there.
PS - sometimes “picking one” will be something like getting up for work on time or having a damn shower. And that’s ok. Sometimes all you have the energy for is basic self care and that’s ok.
