@@Pravdacz-tp8zu When you get no recognition and get treated like this, then yeah America kinda deserved it a little bit. I consider him an American hero despite his treason
On the one hand i get it but on the other. Imagine being reprimanded for having pro British sentiment during a revolution so you respond to that by..... Betraying your country to the British. Washington kinda had a point there didn't he?
There was likely also another reason for his betrayal, his hatred of Catholic France, which by then had joined the war. Fighting against the government was one thing but helping a foreign power whose ideals were Catholic absolutism was not something he could handle and that’s likely one of the things Shippen used to turn him.
I actually had to look up Benedict Arnold because I thought it was so weird he just got "ouch 😢":ed a couple of times and then went into full traitor mode. Turns out he was a complex man with complex motivations; he actually was a brilliant leader of men and a savvy businessman, but had a few unfortunate tendencies like being really jealous of his fellow officers and getting in frequent arguments with them, running some lil side hustles to turn an extra benefit from his military career, and basically using his status at the Continental Congress as a "get out of jail free" card when caught running said side hustles (also known as "war profiteering"). Anyhow, when he was passed up on a few promotions and even slightly reprimanded by Washington due to said behaviours, he basically went "Screw you, I'll just have congress with my hot young Tory wife and maybe also turn West Point over to the Brits!".
I mean... If you think about it, he DID set stage for the future American ways of "war profiting", especially the CIA centuries later. CIA has been known to sell arms to anyone who's against their ideologies and even to criminals like the Talibans against the Soviets, the Medillin Cartel despite fighting against them, the Guadalajara Cartels and many other underground organizations across the globe while they're fighting the US either directly or indirectly. That's called war profiteering and Benedict Arnold actually set the stage for that. Plus, he's actually a real great general but if you kept getting pushed aside for glory and promotion which is vital morale for a soldier, of course they'll find it as "This army is a lame ass duck. I did all the fucking work, carried the conflict and all my accolades is being given to someone else?! Fuck you guys I'm going to the enemy who really appreciates me and I'll smash you down to hell you pisswads" attitude. Can't blame him for switching sides really.

Benedict Arnold was a great Military Commander... However he made some bad decisions about money, he needed the promotions to pay off these debts!! It never came, also it didn't help his cause acting better then everyone else! He's a complicated person for sure!
Me: So what happened to him next after the war?
Oversimplified: who?
Me: Benedict Arnold

Ouch.
I believe that he moved to Canada to open a business that failed, then moved to England where he died in obscurity.

And high school is out here making Benedict Arnold seeming like he just up and betrayed the rebels.
Can't blame Benedict Arnold for what he did.
If you think that you're not treated well by your peers and superiors, you can just resign. You don't betray them and your country.
@@Pravdacz-tp8zu easy for you to say.
@@Pravdacz-tp8zu I'm pretty sure he tried to resign, but Washington did not accept it.
