VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Jess and Shawn decided to leave Orange County and follow their passion for travel and climbing. The unexpected freedom was quickly felt, as well as the strong community in the world of tiny homes on wheels.
Their self-converted van is primarily made from beautiful reclaimed wood from an old fence. The kitchen was thoughtfully designed with a countertop that covers the three-burner stove top and a faucet that can swivel over the sink and the stove! They installed a full bathroom with a DIY toilet and stand-up shower.
A Murphy bed drops down over the dining area, and Jess has a massive closet for clothes and jewelry! These two highly suggest significant planning if you’re looking into a conversion build, and their planning shows in this functional build!

🥰 yessss I had a hard time letting go of sentimental things. I used this map to see it every day (it has pencil markings from him too on it) and then saved a suitcase full for us both that is stored at one of our parents houses

So many great ideas! I do wish they had spent a little more footage of the Murphy Bed.
After re-running the video, I finally figured out that the big tan bolster on the left at 7:04 was the "filler" for their head/pillow section (which could be seen around 8:10 when she pulled down the movie screen) - neat!
Agreed-it wasn’t shown enough. We have a video on our channel showing putting it up and down though!

Adore your build and how well it was thought out. I'm totally swooning over all your barn wood and other reclaimed wood. It is REALLY awesome and artistic. I also love how you oriented the sink so you can fill your pans. I don't think I have ever seen anyone do that intentionally in all the thousands of tiny homes videos I've watched (On or off wheels).
I seriously would be living and loving that lifestyle, if I weren't stuck in a hospital bed nearly 24/7, 365, since 2016 when I had a serious head injury from passing out. I don't recall how long I was in a coma then semi-coma. But it made me forget how to walk. No pity parties here, I've been working my way back to hopefully walking again, or at least being able to take complete care of myself, cause I've seen some totally rad tiny homes for paraplegics. Until then it's PT and OT daily, mostly on my own since insurance only covers way too little IMHO.
I guess I relate so well to your rock climbing adventures, cause I've been doing a ton of climbing myself, some just small pebbles, to hills and mountains, cause the Dr.s told my family I most likely would remain in a coma/semi-coma when they had to put me in an acute care skilled nursing home, after my hospital stay. Ha!! They (the docs) sure as hell didn't know how wrong they were or who they dealing with. I won't give up, no matter how long it takes to reach MY definition of max medical improvement. LoL!!!

Thanks for sharing all of that and I really want to hear from you again that you’re able to move those legs or at least get a really cool chair. I’ve seen another van girl in a wheel chair. It’s possible! Get out there and explore and then tell us about it! 🙌🏼

A murphy bed is a good place saving idea.
But: to avoid mold you have to wait one until two hours to let dry the bed.
More and more builds are utilizing the murphy bed! It really does utilize the space well.
This has to be one of my most favorite van builds. Functionality wise. Enjoyed watching.

It is beautifully designed decor with the wooden doors to the cab and bathroom and functionally beautifully designed, the van has everything you absolutely need or could possibly want! Extremely well designed...
how many things do you have to take out of the bathroom each time you shower? toilet paper and ?????
It may pretty quick! We have the toilet with handles we lift up and out, litter box, two tension closet rods that hold the towels and toilet paper and a decorative basket-sounds like a lot but it’s quick. And we love spaces with multi-use so when you’re not showering it’s doubling as a restroom and storage space

I’m confused you said Sean fits perfectly side to side so you went with a Murphy bed and then he show a Murphy bed that is not side to side
Yep-it’s side to side (left to right, or driver side to passenger side…) the large bench is part of the bed (either the top or the bottom) depending on if we’re leaning a certain direction. Does that make more sense? The other bed orientation people build would be front to back because they’re taller and can’t fit the way we have it.
