  • CAT CURFEW
A parliamentary inquiry is looking to find ways to tackle Australia's feral cat pandemic and protect Australian native animals. It could lead to cat curfews for your pet cat. So, Mittens, your nights of roaming free could be numbered! Yep, here in Australia, we've got a bit of a cat-tastrophe going on. No one is saying cats aren't cute or good pets, it's just they have a fur-rocious (ferocious) side. It's estimated cats kill 1.6 billion native animals a year. The problem is we've got way too many feral cats and pet cats roaming around. The total population of feral cats in Australia is about 2.8 million and there's about 3.7 million pet cats. A parliamentary inquiry is looking into ways to cut down cat populations and protect wildlife. Which is why a nighttime curfew for pet cats has been paw-posed (proposed). Several local governments already have curfews, but it may be a while before we see the rest of the country take the report's advice and introduce them. Other suggestions in the report are things like feral cat culling, more fencing & safe havens for native animals. Many say the inquiry is a big step forward, but others reckon it doesn't go far enough, and we need to be doing more to protect our native animals.
    MELBOURNE HARD BORDER
South Australia has closed its borders to Greater Melbourne in response to a new COVID outbreak. The cluster of at least eight people is linked to the Holiday Inn hotel at Melbourne Airport, so South Australia's decided only people returning home, relocating, or those who are essential travellers will be allowed in. The closures don't apply to people who live in regional Victoria.
    KYRGIOS WIN
Let me set the scene. Kyrgios is down 2 sets to 1 against Ugo Humbert. It's match point. Nick. Must. Win. Mission complete, and from here, it was smooth sailing. Yep, out of absolutely nowhere, Nick Kyrgios clawed his way to a 5 set come from behind victory against the higher-ranked Frenchman, and it wasn't without some trademark Kyrgios showmanship. Kyrgios will now take on world number 3 Dominic Thiem in the third round, where hopefully things will be a little easier
    SMALL TOWN BIG SPORT
It's not every day that Hollywood comes to the small Welsh market town of Wrexham, but today is one of those days! Actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have just taken over 5th division Welsh Club Wrexham AFC. They announced the takeover back in November last year, and today the deal was finalised. The pair have even gotten to work advertising the clubs major sponsor: a car trailer company.
    TAMPA BAY WIN
When your team's nickname is the Buccaneers, it's only appropriate that you celebrate your wins on a boat. That's exactly what Tampa Bay have done after their massive Super Bowl win on Monday. Fans have hit the river across Tampa to witness the celebratory boat parade. Superstar Quarterback Tom Brady even decided to share the trophy around. Oh my good word, lucky they are the safest hands in the league
    CAT VIDEO REPLY
Now if you watched yesterday's program, you'll remember this cat video. Well, the guy behind the cat filter has shared some light on the goof-up! He's not 100% sure, but reckons his secretary's kids might have had something to do with it.
    HAIR STUCK TO HEAD
And finally, the shocking tale of how Tessica from Louisiana got her hair completely stuck to her head! Yep, a really bad idea. The glue is industrial strength, and also totally waterproof. So washing it out hasn't worked. Tessica's journey has blown up on social media, with trips to the emergency room and drastic haircuts. And now, a GoFundMe has raised more than $20,000 to go towards her treatment.
