- On 8 August 1957, ITN's Reggie Bosanquet travelled to the British seaside resort of Blackpool. On a mission to enjoy the famed attractions of Blackpool Pleasure Beach and explore the town's booming tourism industry, Bosanquet captured a number of colourful characters and a culture quite alien to the 21st Century. Among them, the fearless men responsible for cleaning Blackpool Tower, the no-nonsense nurse charged with reuniting lost children with their families, and a man with a special job at the fair...

Watching the Blackpool Tower maintenance men doing their work without any safety equipment hundreds of feet up the tower made my legs turn to jelly , they must have had nerves of steel 😲
I used to do simular work, four pints of beer at lunch time helped.
Fascinating video! This generation probably went through so much with WW1 and WW2 that i bet very little else wouldve phased them
Bill would be made to sign the register these days! 🤣🤣
Rightly so. The creep
Noah’s Ark and the Funhouse were always my fav, went in them every weekend when open as a kid in the 70’s happy days 👍 glass of cordial was 5p
They had "Lost child" cabins on the prom in the 70,"s.
When that job blowing up the, ladies skirts came up, for the interview, the end of the que started in Manchester!
A very young Reginald Bosanquet was the interviewer.
Well spotted and regards from Barnes London
Beautiful young lady coming down the slide at 6.53.
I'm sure the bloke with the mic interviewing people is Reginald Bousenquet the old BBC newscaster in the 60s-70s.
Loved the funhouse ,great times
I’m scared just watching them hang over the edge. I was born and bred in Blackpool and remember as a kid seeing pots of paint and brushes everywhere when taking the lift to the top
@@TidybitzShould it not also be “bred and born”?
@@Tidybitz my bad, doing an edit. I am a silly sausage
@@FilliamPL ... Not for me, but whatever suits you.
@@Tidybitz My feeling is that it is “bred and born”, as the sequence of events should make sense (how can you be bred after you are born?). There is definitely a right answer out there! :) I am just curious
@@FilliamPL ... As I said, you go with what you want and I'll stick with what I prefer. Have a lovely day and I'll end my comment on this here.
Health and safety what Health and safety, imagine doing it now ,😮
How is it that Bill has never become a Blackpool legend.
I agree, Bill the professional Blackpool skirt blower, what character , one of a kind. There should be a statue of Bill in Blackpool in his memory.
@@woodyspooner I had never seen Bill until watching the video and I am surprised he never became a famous Blackpool character and Bill the Blackpool skirt blower and all he had to do was press a button.
That laughing clown in the glass bubble it looks so real I remember that from when I was a child scared the living daylights out of me And that was way back in the late 80s
Loved & miss the old funhouse & the freaky laughing clown……..many great memories
Used to love all day at the Funhouse in my grey stockingfeet.
@@minimaxi802 absolutely, & all the different kids having fun & bonding…….not a tablet in sight…….happy times….🤗
Bill the skirt blower “let’s them have it” In your dreams Bill, in your dreams!
FUN HOUSE was there till it burnt down in the early 90's me thinks.
Look at it now, the town has fell off a cliff and into a Volcano
I heard Bill got a job at the BBC
😂😂😂
I think the rockets going around had a lever between the person at front legs if I'm correct and when pulled the rocket went up in air my brother pulled the lever and I kicked off so much the ride was stopped frightened me to death 😤🙄😳
Can anyone tell me any more where they were I thought they were near the logflume but they disappeared 🙄🤔 they went round then when lever pulled they went up in air any comments and help I'd appreciate thanks
Nurse referring to a child "i ask the them where they found IT how long they've had IT"
Who refers to a child as an IT? I found that to be quite disgusting 😡
I’d call them “it”. Either way, it was over 60 years ago and she’s long dead, not worth getting angry about it now.
Get a grip
🤡
Calm down snowflake
In 1957 political correctness hadn't been invented and in 2023 we have to be careful what we call children so as not to upset the little darlings.
