  • On 8 August 1957, ITN's Reggie Bosanquet travelled to the British seaside resort of Blackpool. On a mission to enjoy the famed attractions of Blackpool Pleasure Beach and explore the town's booming tourism industry, Bosanquet captured a number of colourful characters and a culture quite alien to the 21st Century. Among them, the fearless men responsible for cleaning Blackpool Tower, the no-nonsense nurse charged with reuniting lost children with their families, and a man with a special job at the fair...

    Watching the Blackpool Tower maintenance men doing their work without any safety equipment hundreds of feet up the tower made my legs turn to jelly , they must have had nerves of steel 😲

    Fascinating video! This generation probably went through so much with WW1 and WW2 that i bet very little else wouldve phased them

    Noah’s Ark and the Funhouse were always my fav, went in them every weekend when open as a kid in the 70’s happy days 👍 glass of cordial was 5p

    I'm sure the bloke with the mic interviewing people is Reginald Bousenquet the old BBC newscaster in the 60s-70s.

    I’m scared just watching them hang over the edge. I was born and bred in Blackpool and remember as a kid seeing pots of paint and brushes everywhere when taking the lift to the top

      @@Tidybitz My feeling is that it is “bred and born”, as the sequence of events should make sense (how can you be bred after you are born?). There is definitely a right answer out there! :) I am just curious

      I agree, Bill the professional Blackpool skirt blower, what character , one of a kind. There should be a statue of Bill in Blackpool in his memory.

      @@woodyspooner I had never seen Bill until watching the video and I am surprised he never became a famous Blackpool character and Bill the Blackpool skirt blower and all he had to do was press a button.

    I think the rockets going around had a lever between the person at front legs if I'm correct and when pulled the rocket went up in air my brother pulled the lever and I kicked off so much the ride was stopped frightened me to death 😤🙄😳

    Can anyone tell me any more where they were I thought they were near the logflume but they disappeared 🙄🤔 they went round then when lever pulled they went up in air any comments and help I'd appreciate thanks

    Who refers to a child as an IT? I found that to be quite disgusting 😡
