- When we travel, we use the RV pump quite a bit. But, it's noisy! So, I had to do something. This is what I came up with. Final product would cost about $50 if bought by someone pieced out.

Good video about a sore subject that comes standard with all RV's! I found an option that is easier to make and is quieter. Mounting a pump on any type of hard surface will create a resonating sound board that amplifies sound. Discard the piece of plywood and the open cell foam. Purchase a pool noodle at a dollar store for a couple of bucks. Cut a section of the noodle an inch or so longer than the base of the pump. Slit one side of the noodle through to its hollow core and spread it open. Mount the pump directly on top of the opened noodle using stainless steel wood screws that are long enough to pass through the base, the noodle, and into the floor. Tighten the screws only enough that they begin to slightly compress the foam. Pool noodles are made of closed cell foam and will not absorb water. My cheapo original equipment pump went from sounding like an unmuffled radial aircraft engine to one that you cannot hear at all!
Thanks for the input.
Do you have a video on that?
@@alive-awake No. Sorry!
I know this is a old video and hope you get this message but my water pump noise is the bane of my existence!! (my wife says i'm obsessed and I agree LOL). what I ended up doing (besides a accumulator tank) was added pipe insulation (home depot) all over our rig (big 5th wheel) every place I could get to where the hard pex tubing rattled against wood and side walls. Made a huge difference (yeah got a silencing kit on it too)
That is the way to go. It annoys the shit out of me too!
Thank you for your excellent video in helping solve a common RV problem!
You bet. It sure help that pump rattle.
The trouble with a quite pump is you don't know when its running. I understand it can get annoying.
I live on a boat and if I have a leak in my fresh water system I know it by the pump cycling.
Sometimes nose is a good thing.
+Sailing with SV Wild Hare It is good to hear it if you keep your pump on all the time. We can hear it still, it's just not outrageous. For what it's worth, we turn our pump off when we leave the RV for the day. The rest of the time, we do hear it. Thanks for commenting.

Thank you for the great video lesson.
I enjoy sharing Make. I hope it was helpful.
Yes that pump is a bit load at first, The accumulator certainly has helped a bit ,but your Foam based part had the desired effect. Well done nice work
Patrick Meehan Patrick, I am surely pleased with it.
I might try the foam . You think by now they would have developed quieter pumps.
Agreed. By now, they should be quiet and you should also be able to simply dial the pressure to varying strengths. I do this easily enough with a "Y" valve in my hydroponics.
great Info !!! and good ideas thanks !!
rvertv It's a little odd looking, but then it was odd looking before I started!
It is important that the accumulator tank be pressurized to the pump cut on pressure or no more than 2 psi below. (See shurflo.com/images/files/Marine_Product_Manuals/Water-System-Accessories/911-731.pdf). The "2 psi below" is the spec for residential pump tanks. Otherwise, the storage volume is reduced and the pump cycling is increased.
Check out the second video I did. I'm pretty sure we're right there where you mention for the same reasons. Really improved performance! Thanks for watching!
Brent
And yes, the smaller accumulator would have been improved as well! Thanks again.

I’m considering one of the SeaFlo 5.5 gpm 4 chamber pumps and an accumulator tank for my 5th wheel.
Nice.
After you put the foam under the pump and fastened pump to board, how did you fasten it to the trailer floor? or is it just floating?
Floating. It's wedged between the bay wall and other material, plus the pump connections are not loose so there's minimal movement potential.
i put mine inside a box lined with dynamat (used for soundproofing cars when good audio systems are installed.... silence! !!!
What a great idea!
+C3 Voyage i can stand infront of my pump while its running and wont hear it at all ! i also lined the floor and firewall of my bus with it, totally eliminated engine/exhaust sound.
How about putting The Who,e assembly in a styrofoam cooler?... Put the lid on the floor as a vibration barrier and use the cooler as a cover
OMG, have you ever heard styrofoam vibrate like when they put the leftovers from a restaurant and take it home. Very loud and annoying. Lol
