Wow Smith! Is it Pat? VERY interesting video and excellent timing! I shall explain why, but this may drag on a little! I've had a split cane rod since I was about 10, so 55 years. It is about 7ft, 2 piece, and has 'Walker's Portsea' written on it. Just yesterday I decided to do some research on it but haven't come up with much. I remember back about 1970, it had a loose eye, and the bus driver that used to drop me home from school offered to fix it and wouldn't take anything for it. Interesting to note that it has ceramic lined eyes!
A Google search revealed it might have been connected with the Australian company Jarvis Walker who started making split cane rods in 1946, and there is a similar rod for sale on eBay AU for AU $309 which would reinforce the Aussie connection! I will try to do a bit more research, but so far not much more information.
I also have a 12ft Milbro fibreglass beachcasting rod from about 1975 that my father bought me, and like your rods, it is that similar colour to split cane. I keep threatening to re-ring & restore it, and thought of painting it a satin black to make it look more modern, but after watching your video, I'm not so sure. Enough of my waffling - stay safe & well - Dave. 🎣🎣👍👍
Oh, and if you ever need any quality rod bags at a reasonble price, google Midwater luggage - they are very good and will custom make any size you require! I'd put a link in, but whenever I've done that recently, CZcams have deleted the comment!

Now then Trampster Pat Smith here Interesting story about the ceramic lined rod rings! The twelve foot Milbro beachcaster got My attention too. Is it a Brown colour with cork handles, two either side of the reel seat and one at the end of the butt?
I think with the date 1975 its a revers taper 😃👍

Great job! I enjoy using split cane rods myself. I recently acquired a 1960 split cane Chapman 500 which is a nice rod for lighter fishing... also would you mind if I ask what brand of shirt your wearing please, its a super colour

hey Smith! I enjoyed your video on split cane rods very much, you did a very good job. You should do more reviews.
One of my uncles actually made a living in Miami making cane rods. I think it was either right before the war or after. he later worked in a store that just sold woodworking equipment like skilsaws. My other uncle was a shipwright and my father was a master carpenter. I just make sawdust on CZcams.
